Everything you need to know about Resident Evil Requiem’s Nintendo Switch 2 version, and whether it’s coming to the original Switch or not.

Resident Evil Requiem was easily the biggest surprise announcement of this year’s Summer Game Fest. However, what was even more surprising was Capcom announcing a Switch 2 version of the game. Furthermore, the Switch 2 version will be released simultaneously alongside other platforms. Since the very start of the franchise, the Resident Evil games have always been a stellar showcase of Capcom’s in-house tech.
In fact, it was with 2017’s Resident Evil 7 that Capcom introduced the RE Engine. The RE Engine is the tech that powers all of Capcom’s current-gen games. Resident Evil Requiem is no different from this rule, boasting jaw-dropping visuals, courtesy of the RE Engine. However, the game also seems to be quite well-optimized, considering Capcom was able to get it running on the Switch 2.
That said, with many games releasing on both Switch 2 and the original Switch, some players might be wondering where RE Requiem will be coming to the latter or not. Unfortunately, Resident Evil Requiem is not coming to the original Nintendo Switch.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Switch 2 version of RE Requiem, and why it’s skipping the original Switch.
Why Is Resident Evil Requiem Not Releasing On The Original Nintendo Switch?

The biggest reason for Resident Evil Requiem to skip the original Switch hardware is its use of the RE Engine. There have been a handful of RE Engine titles on the Nintendo Switch, for instance, Monster Hunter Rise, Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney Trilogy, and Ghost ‘n Goblins Resurrection. However, these titles were developed using a dialed-back version of the engine.
Resident Evil Requiem, on the other hand, uses the more recent iteration of the engine, even for the Switch 2. It’s the same version of the engine that powers games like Monster Hunter Wilds, Street Fighter 6, and the upcoming Monster Hunter Stories 3. As such, it’s obvious why Capcom chose to skip the original Switch hardware for the latest Resident Evil.
Furthermore, the original Nintendo Switch is close to a decade-old at this point. And being a handheld console, it has started to show its age, especially in the case of third-party releases.
Is Resident Evil Requiem Available To Pre-Order On Nintendo Switch 2?
Yes, Resident Evil Requiem is available for pre-order on the Nintendo Switch 2. The game is available in both digital and physical formats. However, it should be noted that much like Street Fighter 6, the physical version of RE Requiem is a Game Key Card. As such, you will have to download a sizeable amount of the game data, even for the physical version.
