Increasing Diplomatic Reputation causes other nations to view you as more reliable, making it closely tied to the Trust mechanic. High Diplomatic Reputation can make conducting diplomatic interactions a breeze, increase Trust, lower Antagonism, and even make you a Hegemon.

Diplomatic Reputation is a flat modifier and does not depend on your actions. Trust is the opposite, as it varies based on your actions and decisions. You can improve Diplomatic Reputation by selecting laws, advances, national values, and government reforms that increase it.

Effects of Diplomatic Reputation

Having a high Diplomatic Reputation is vital for diplomatic countries since it increases Trust and minimizes Antagonism, allowing you to easily arrange Royal Marriages, isolate declared rivals, and Invite Settlers. Here are the positive effects of Diplomatic Reputation in EU5:

  • +1 Trust per Diplomatic Reputation with every country
  • -4% Antagonism per Diplomatic Reputation point 
  • Having the highest Diplomatic Reputation globally will make you the Diplomatic Hegemon, granting various bonuses. 

Diplomatic Reputation can suffer under the following circumstances.

  • Going over Diplomatic Capacity costs -2 Diplomatic Reputation.

Having the highest Diplomatic Reputation in the world will make you the Diplomatic Hegemon for 120 months (10 years) starting from the Age of Discovery. This unlocks the Influence Nation diplomatic interaction and provides a bonus of +30% Improve Relations with all nations. 

Using the Influence Nation action on a country simultaneously improves trust and relations with them over time. The improved relations passive bonus is beneficial for creating defensive alliances, Personal Unions, and to ensure no country can declare war on you without great diplomatic cost and backlash.

To become the Diplomatic Hegemon, focus on increasing Diplomatic Reputation through every law, government reform, national value, and advance possible. You will also have to increase Diplomatic Spending over time to improve Diplomatic Capacity.
