  • Welcome To Juliana
  • Resources, Products, and Structures To Prioritize
  • Roman vs Celtic
  • Military
  • Post-Game

Starting Character

At the start of Anno 117, you are given the choice to start with Marcus or Marcia. This decision will be an important one, as the fundamental story, origin, and development of both characters differ. You can choose who you want to, based on personal preferences. The overarching narrative for both characters will be explained below:

  • Marcus: Youngest son of Decimus of the Delta. Tired of his son’s antics, Decimus put him to work in the imperial granaries, counting beans. Nothing, however, could have prepared Marcus for an unexpected summons that was to change his life.
  • Marcia: Eligible daughter of Decimus of the Delta. Like most girls her age, Marcia is expected to marry, though being of patrician birth, she has little to say in the matter. Soon, she must leave home behind to join her future husband, a Roman governor. Little does she know what part she will have to play.

From the above, you can choose whichever character feels more compelling to play as.

Welcome To Juliana

Your first task as Governor of Juliana will be to rebuild the city. In this process, you will learn about many of the introductory mechanics of the game. Here, you will have to think like a capable governor to make good progress.

Your first priorities will be to build housing and other utility centres. For every such structure, try to place them in areas where they might receive bonuses. For instance, placing a housing unit next to a public service will be beneficial.

Similarly, some structures, like Fisheries, cannot be placed unless near a body of water. Do not worry a lot if you place something in a somewhat awkward place, as you won’t be staying here for long.

Once you have made some progress, the story will progress, and you will be tasked with heading out to Albion.

Resources, Products, and Structures To Prioritize

There is no one type of product you should ignore. The products your citizens need will depend on the class they are from. So, if you have more people from one class, then you will have to prioritize their wants more.

Markets and Taverns in the middle of the city will be great. These buildings will provide a bonus to any residents nearby. Similarly, a Lumber Mill will be well-suited near a forest. Wood will be a priority early on, as lots of structures will need it.

You will also want to send out early expeditions and claim nearby islands as your own by creating trade posts. This will expand your production capability by a lot.

Roman vs Celtic

You will need to tackle a huge choice in the future, which is the Roman vs Celtic issue. You can either allow your citizens to maintain their Celtic roots or Romanize them. Your decision will play a major part in the future of Albion.

For instance, the Celtics will have a symbiotic way of life with nature. On the other hand, a Roman population will drain the marshes and build aqueducts. You must also take the marshes themself into account. Certain buildings can only be built on marshes.

Moreover, your decision to Romanize the people, or have them keep their traditions, will play a major part in interacting with their leader. If you want to have a diplomatic relationship with the leader of the Celtic people, then letting them keep their traditions will make it easier. However, you deal with her, other governors will choose to react to it.

Military

From the start of your campaign, try to focus on your navy. Not only are naval battles engaging, but they will work well in early skirmishes, which are fought for control over some of your islands. Apart from this, the navy will also be needed to protect your trade routes. Otherwise, your economy could suffer greatly.

However, don’t simply go all in on one side. You will definitely also need land forces for battles.

Post-Game

Even once the campaign finishes, you are not necessarily done with the game. You can easily immerse yourself in a bunch of time-consuming activities, which include making huge projects that take up a large amount of resources. Apart from that, you can expand your control to other regions, which will also be a challenge and give you more options.
