It’s time to redefine tanking with the new updated T7. With the changes to stamina regeneration while blocking, tank is still possible and I’m going to show you how in this ESO Dragonknight Tank for Update 7 guide.
UPDATED BUILD FOR THIEVES GUILD HERE
Video Link
Table of Content
Objective
The goal of T7 is that people can use this as a template in order to compensate for the lack of stamina regeneration in Update 7 Imperial City. My usual tank setup used magicka with high stamina regeneration through champion points and drinks over food. This build does the opposite, using high stamina pool, massive reduce block cost and powerful ultimate regeneration to active the all important Battle Roar passive.
The new stamina change might be controversial, but it’s not crippling. I also want something that players can pick up easy, without farming gear for hours or the need of PvP sets. The downside of the build is it relies on high champion points to compensate for lack of resource regeneration. You can still play it with low CP (sub 200), but you won’t be able to pull off all the tricks. Another downside is the need for the PvP Caltrops (Razor morph). It acts as such a strong AoE taunt that it cannot be avoid.
However, the build can hold up to the new content WITH the old gear sets, skills and near setup. With this build be the “BEST TANK EVER 2015?” Probably not, but if you want to get through the two new Veteran Dungeons, you can with T7.
Resources via Ultimates + Reduce block cost via champion points and armor + Max resistance through skills = new tanking
Skills
Sword and Shield One
- Extended Chains (morph of Fiery Grip | Ardent Flame skill line) – This is a pull AND a leap essentially. It’s great for pulling in mobs than quickly taunting them or pulling yourself to a target that cannon be stunned (like a boss). “Rip and grip” it’s the reason we love DK tanks.
- Pierce Armor (morph of Puncture | One-Hand and Shield skill line) – A powerful debuff and a single target taunt makes this ability a must have. I like the added spell resistance debuff Pierce Armor provides making the morph choice of my tank.
- Choking Talons (morph of Dark Talons | Draconic Power skill line) – This acts as a AoE root and damage debuff to the enemies. I prefer this morph for pure tanking and it’s ability to control mobs on the battlefield is second to none.
- Defensive Stance (morph of Defensive Posture | One-Hand and Shield skill line) – Reducing block cost and increasing block mitigation is essential for a pure DK tank. It also acts as a Engine Guardian proc tool spam casting this to get a flood of resources.
- Coagulating Blood (morph of Dragon Blood | Draconic Power skill line) – A powerful self heal that also gives a minor vitality buff for extra healing received. Since I run Tri-potions with alchemy passive of Medicinal Use, I no longer need Green Dragon Blood.
Sword and Shield Two
- Hardened Armor (morph of Spiked Armor | Draconic Power skill line) – This is our main buff to maintain for major spell resistance and armor. It also gives us a powerful health shield to start combat and returns physical damage.
- Inner Fire (no morph needed | Undaunted skill line) – A magicka based range taunt that is useful if we’re low on stamina. If you have tons of stamina, go for the stamina based morph but I play it safe.
- Razor Caltrops (morph of Caltrops | Alliance War Assault skill line) – A massive AoE snare which acts like a taunt. It’s my primary way to hold agro on a large group of mobs. If you don’t PvP, use Eruption as a substitute (morph of Ash Cloud | Earthen Heart skill line).
- Heroic Slash (morph of Low Slash | One-Hand and Shield skill line) – This is a single target damage debuff and hits pretty hard single target. It also generates a bit of ultimate over time essential to our resource regeneration.
- Igneous Shields (morph of Obsidian Shield | Earthen Heart skill line) – A minor shield that gives us back stamina, ultimate and 5% weapon power, yeah it’s a must have.
Rotation and Use
Buff with Defensive Stance, Hardened Armor, Igneous shields and Coagulating Blood, throw Caltrops while closing the gap, taunt with Pieces Armor and debuff with Heroic Slash. Now go into buff/debuff cycle.
Primary Buffs – Hardened Armor to reach hard cap in resistance. Other buffs to maintain is Mountains Blessing (20 seconds) Defensive Stance and Coagulating Blood.
Primary Debuffs – Heroic Slash for single target, Choking Talons for area or multiple mobs and Pierce Armor.
Extra Magicka – Use Blood and Igneous Shields to get ultimate.
Extra Stamina – Place Razor Caltrops down, Heroic Slash and Defensive Stance.
Gear
- Footman – Comes from Dragonstar Arena (VR 13 normal VR 14 vet).
- Hist Bark – Craftable four trait found here: Greenshade Rootwatch Tower, Rivenspire Trader’s Rest and Shadowfen Hatchling’s Crown.
- Engine Guardian – Helm from Darkshade Cavern, Shoulders through Undaunted.
Alternatives – Alessia’s Bulwark is a good craftable set that can be used at any level. Soulshine and Unassailable and Akaviri Dragonguard are decent drop sets while leveling.
Champion Points
Priorities
- Blessed in the Mage for more healing
- Block Expert in the Warrior for reduce block cost
- Magician for reduce magicka cost
Miscellaneous
- Attributes – all stamina (64).
- Werewolf/Vampire – Neither since I don’t use their abilities.
- Mundus – Atronach for more casting though Warrior is good for DPS focused stamina build.
- Races – 1) Imperial 2) Dunmer 3) Nord.
Will X race work with Y build
Generally yes. I’ve stamina DPS on a Nord and magicka tanked on a Khajiit. It can be done, but it won’t be optimal. If you’re asking for advice, tank those three races ideally, but anything with more health, magicka and stamina can work.
Is this better than your t3 reborn build?
For update 7 yes.
hey deltia. big fan. I like most of your builds and they’re usually my go to guides for leveling or whatever. my only question with this build is , for someone who doesn’t have near as many champion points as you do (sub 100)…. noob hype, what would be the most beneficial to my build? I notice you have around 30k health and 24k stam with attributes completely in stam. but my character comes no where near that … and I have a 5 piece foot man and 5 piece histbark… ( just need the engine guardian) I still need to throw a few health enchants on some pieces but I don’t think that’s gonna make up the ground I seem to be missing… any suggestions would help. thanks!
I’m interested to know the answer to this too. I have 225 CP, all legendary v16 gear, and Footman v13-15 purple/legendary pieces. I use Divines/Infused with ALL health enchants. If I have no AP into HP, my health is 25k, I usually throw 24 points into HP to take me to 28-29k. I’m a nord, and I use drinks.
I’m also curious as to what you think between stamina for tankiness, and magicka for DPSTankiness. Most people are saying magicka is better for PvE, but I feel squisher and am not surethe DPS boost is wort it.
Max health food
have you ever made a chacter that soley do a dungun by yourself?
yoloknight
Why is their very low magica and Stam regeneration?
You don’t need stam regen because if you constantly block, which you should do as a tank, you don’t regen stam anyways. So having high stam regen is pointless, you could use those champion points into some else more useful.
I made a build with an imperial that does do damage and has good health and Stam regen
Hey delta. I’m just curious if you think it’s ok to use a 5 piece VR 14 footman and a 5 piece VR 16 histbark. Or should I trade up the footmans for a new vr16 set and if so what set??
Yep that’s what you should use.
Question my angel guardian has only dropped in medium both pieces several times what alternative should I use
Medium is fine you’ll have to watch out for low magicka.
Great thanks for responding
Quick question on this build how does it stand up to most attacks if all your atribute points are all in stamina and not it health
Yeah, you can have 100k health and 3k stamina. That does nothing for you, because you need to taunt, keep mobs off other players not just sit with health and do nothing.
Can this build be used for leveling as well?
Yes but it’ll be very very slow. I’d go with Laceration for Magicka or Butcher for stamina.
Excellent work! I’ve been checking every day for the build write-up. However, you forgot the ultimates in the write-up! Also, interesting and nice incorporation of War Horn (Agressive Horn, I’m assuming).
Thanks for sharing as usual deltia, very helpful
Any pointers on how to rework a stamina based sword and board imperial
templar tank to possibly get the same kind of results as your DK with these new updates? Thanks.
Yes, because all of the undead are daedric. Templar tank maybe this week?
Yo deltia is there any specific reason for not putting attributes in health? It is still a tank though
I explained in the video my reason for having a high stamina pool via Battle Roar. Health is great, but if you don’t have any resources it doesn’t matter.
Is redguard a viable race for this build?
Yes
Hey Deltia love the work you do but seeing how it’s get a “giant stamina pool” would the Imperial be a great race for this kinda new tank idea because of the 10% more Stam and the Heal? Or would a different race be better?
Definitely, he does list Imperial as his #1 race. With the change in Stamina recovery, the more Stamina the better and no other race can compete with the Imperial in that regard.
Thanks man I didn’t see that part XD
Would you change any of this with a Imperial?
hey deltia, my tank right now is a dark elf dragon knight. actually i chose the dark elf dragon knight before mainly for dps and not tank. what i did is i shifted to tanking because we needed a tank in our group. i didn’t have time anymore to make another character as a Nord. do you think it will also work as a dark elf?
Well I would say a Dark Elf DK would be great considering in his video he’s a dark elf and it seems like he’s doing super well!!
Hey Deltia
Awesome build as always! I thought Redguard would also work well ? With the 10% extra stam?
Cheers mate
I´m new to ESO, but i really love it!
It will be my main MMO for a long time so discovering your site has been gold!
Your really talented for sharing your passion and experience 🙂 Also really dig the timeout videos that you do with ELLOA and SIGTRIC, keep it up!
Looking forward to your templar tank build for 7.0
Hah! I was in the process of levelling a full health, T3 style tank before the patch notes. Didn’t get very far, so only 14 points in health. Is it worth a respec for 100% stamina? I’m thinking a few points health couldn’t hurt, right?
I don’t concern myself with attribute points, if you want and it works for you, go ahead.
Ok, thanks for the feedback. I guess min/maxing isn’t such a big issue for low deep tanks anyway
Am I able to use redguard for this?
How is this is PvP?
First off Tank for making a tank build its my main char and I just hit v14 on ps4.
I onlyhave two question.
Why 3 div and othet reinforced. I know the footmans cant have reinforced?
how does the game do the math with all these dam res I got.
Beinng a nord 6%
footman 12%
Shield skill 8%
My armor res
blocking Res
sorry for my bad English
PS DC PS4 FTW
18% miss attack from
Hist Bark
Was just wondering why you put 7/7 heavy and not 5/2 or 5/1/1
Did you watch the video?
Self promotion much?
Considering he wrote the guide and did the video. Self promotion isn’t an issue. The video explains everything.
Bretón Tank yeah
this build looks awesome and cant wait to try it but a couple things
1 what if you do not have engine guardian (working on getting it)
and 2 will this build work good for nord as well ?
love the build and cant wait to try it, but i have a couple questions
1 this is on a dark elf will it work as good on a nord.
2if we do not have engine guardian (working on getting it) is tehre another set we can use?
Not as good, use blood spawn if no engine.
Deltia, can I use this build in PvP as a redguard?
Great vid as always! but I would like to know how I can run this build in PvP too 🙂 Hope you can help me. Is it any good to use skills like in laceration pvp and change set?
Not really
“that cannon be stunned ”
Damn straight stun that cannon
Deltias, is this build good for dungeos that are not the Imperial Tower?
Yes
I play on xbox one, and often use your builds as ideas or use the build entirely, do you think this build would work well on the console version?
Yes same build, just have to bar swap often.
How can I make this build good for pvp, can I combine it with laceration pvp build skills or do you prefer other skills?
I’ll have a separate PvP version later.
What about Templar tank how this affect this class, thank you in advance in case you reply.
Not very in comparison with a DK.
when can we expect a bloody butcher update? Hope soon
Soon…
Deltia, absolutely love this build and can’t wait to give it a try. I don’t think you actually said anything about what ultimate you use. Do you mind sharing?
I have both ultimates listed in the skills, Magma Armor and War Horn.
Can I use this in PVP?
You can, but you won’t be killing much.
I have decided I don’t mind not killing as a tank in pvp I’m perfectly happy with being able to tank out vr10-14 as a vr 4 indefinitely so my team mates can come in and clean them up
Hey, quick question but what add-ons do you use for tanking?
Its in the video description.
if you can write a mini guide for power leveling for this build, such as for Specter? what combination of skills is ideal for AoE grind, for example, in Wayrest Sewers?
Awesome guide! Please consider making a PvP version as well 😀
Also, would we have to put points into magicka for pvp instead all in stamina?
Thank you!!
Yes, and I don’t know yet.
Hey Deltia, I’m wondering if I should re-roll my Dunmer DK to this build. He’s VR6 right now, from following your Laceration build. But I’ve been interested in building a Tank for a while. Just wanted to make sure if it would be a good idea to do it now, or wait till I’m VR14, or if it even mattered when I wanted to do it.
I just got my hands on some Nirnhoned 1hand Sword and Shield as well, so that would help a bunch.
Also wanted to add that your bar 2 is a Maul and shield? Is that supposed to be a Mace, since a maul is 2H?
Hey Deltia, love your builds and I just hit VR14 on my Dunmer DK tank. Watched the video and totally understand how everything works but just can’t seem to get how you have 30k health with full stam attributes. Even with tri stat food at vr 14 I can’t go past 25k health.
I didn’t see any emperorship bonus on your character either. Nor do you use Lord Mundus stone. If you could tell me how you get that much health, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks again.
I’m not emperor. I didn’t have 30k health, should be around 25k.
Yeah I noted the 24.7k in the gameplay footage but when you are explaining the change of shifting to max stamina in the first 3-4 mins of the video your health shows as 30k, like before the war horn use its 30k and jumps to 33k after use of the horn.
Is it a buff of sorts for being in imperial city?
what’s your second ultimate?
Magma Armor and Warhorn
I don’t play PvP at all,so what I suppose to do with the warhorn,is there any replacement
Obviously having 300 plus cp will be optimal. However on the console I’m on 150. Will it still be viable with less cp? Currently got till September to grind as many as I can.
hey deltia i am one of your avid follower. i’ve been watching all your videos everyday. my vet 5 character is a dragon knight dunmer and i put all my 50 points attributes on health and had all my gear enchanted to stamina. do you think i should switch all my attribute points to stamina even if i don’t have the gears listed in your video. i am using 5 piece set of whitestrake retribution and 4 piece of allesias bullwark. so far it has done me good on my set up. but blocking really drains my stamina that’s why i am considering on trying to put all points on stamina and see how my tank will do on dungeons if i have everything on stamina. please help…thanks again
Hello, new player here. Currently only regular lvl 34 (I know long way to go) but I have been watching your vids for as much advice as possible. Your previous T3 Nord Dragonknight tank is what I have currently based my Char on. Due to my low lvl and such – should I go ahead and start rebuilding my spec? or stay where I am atm. I would also like to mention that I play on the PS4 – are there many diff in gameplay & such in terms of updates.
Thanks,
Frake34
I accidentally did the other morph rather then extended chains… do you think it is a must to reroll my skill line, or should I be okay. Also, I like to run both 2-handed and sword and shield, any advice on a possible 2-handed rotation on one of the two?
LOL at all these people that didn’t watch the video and ask questions that Deltia eloquently explained in it.
Hey Deltias great vid! If possible, what would you recommend for a DK Dunmer vamp? I loved your earlier build so much I went with it. I’d like to respect for tanking and would appreciate ANY suggestions. Thanks in advance!
Hi, i love youre videos and youre builds. i have a question to this build. How do I play this tank build in PvP . which skills match to this high stamina pool . makes PvP with this build any sense?
regards from germany
Thanks a lot for doing this Guide. It is a Kick in the Ass for all Crybabys in the official Forums.
It is almost the same Build i was running with my Imperial DK Tank in the last Months and the same Changes i have in Mind after running my first Dungeon on the PTS.
I use Balance from Mages Guild instead of Caltrops to restore Magica for the Magica based Abilitys and to taunt with Inner Rage if low on Stamina. You have to use it with care or told your Healer if you wanna use it but you can save your or your Groups Ass in many Situations.
I often use it at Trashgroups to keep the Enemys at me with perma Caltrops and Chains.
What should your bars be for the leveling process?
Love your builds… I also would love a templar tank build if you find the time thanks!
Deltia, Im interested if you have had a chance to test the Black Rose set? With end game gear/sword and board/fortress/absorb magic etc.. Im sure you can get the cost of block well below 780. Meaning that you could ultimately get 2x-3x the stam back you got from blocking than you spent doing it (sounds like stam regen from blocking 20% of the time lol). This may allow you to swap some points back to Health/Magica. Would also be great for AOE trash packs. The only negative is fully mitigating all damage by dodging. But when ever i dodge i look at it like stam saved, not health saved. As you demonstrated, if i need a quick heal IS+GDB+Tri Pot and your all set. What are your thoughts?
Deltia, another great guide! I do have a couple questions though about tanking in general.
1) You refer in several of your guides to soft and hard caps for resistances, what are these numbers exactly?
2) in regards to hit points, regeneration, and resistances, what would you consider good goal numbers for different stages of the game? Say vr1/vr5/vr10/vr14/vr16 for example.
3) with the stamina changes, would you change how you prioritize statistical values over your previous tank builds?
Thanks for your time. I really look forward to a response. Happy gaming!
No soft caps in game, 33,000 spell resist and armor.
I don’t know as I don’t concern myself with those numbers until end game. I’m 100% focused on leveling.
I mention that in the video, stamina.
Thank you, Deltia, very inspiring.
But I’ve a question about the Rotation and Use.
I wonder if this is handy: “Buff with Defensive Stance, Hardened Armor, Igneous shields and Coagulating Blood, throw Caltrops while closing the gap, taunt with Pieces Armor and debuff with Heroic Slash. Now go into buff/debuff cycle.”
Main rotation over seven skills requiring five bar swaps?
Defensive Stance -> swap bar -> Hardened Armor, Igneous shields -> swap bar -> Coagulating Blood -> swap bar -> Caltrops -> swap bar -> Pieces Armor -> swap bar -> Heroic Slash
I’m a noob, I would like to know the secret of this 🙂
It’s not easy, when it doubt just hold use Hardened Armor and Defensive Stance.
Sorry if this has been asked, but what would be a good alternate to the engine guardian set?As in instead of a 2 piece monster set.
There really isn’t one since it’s incredible resource management tool.
Understood, thanks for taking the time to reply I know your busy.
Whitestrike isnt a bad 2 piece filler till you get a 2 piece monster set.
Thank you Coop for the idea.
Does the Redgaurd Racial Passive “Adrenalin Rush” proc Stamina even when blocking in release 7? Might be a way of also increasing stamina while blocking especially if you get your blocking down to almost nothing.
I do not know honestly.
Not sure why my post was killed so I’ll post again. Does the Redguard Passive “Adrenalin Rush” still proc while blocking in the Imperial City release ? If so this might be a good way to regen Stamina if you can get Blocking done to virtually no cost.
Perhaps it was an earlier tanking guide you made, but I think you said that resistant (from crits)slot for champion points is useless in PVE. I thought this wasn’t true because mobs can crit…
There seems to be confusion on this..
Tried to post this earlier, but it didn’t take somehow..
Does “resistant” really only benefit PVP? I thought mobs/bosses could crit according to combat logs? There seems to be confusion on this.
Mobs do not crit.
Hey i have a dk vet 9 i used to have all on health and 5 heavy armor 1 med and 1 light im now using 10-47 health-stamina atribute points but it doesnt feel right im a tank i have 18k health and 17-18k stamina. Does anyone have any tips? Is this good for tanking?im using 5 heavy 2 med atm, I never used this many points for stamina. I did a vet 9 dungeon and i got alot of dmg and before i changed my attribute points, i almost didnt die (25k health pool)
You want to use food to boost your health or all health glyphs with drinks to boost your regen.
Al about the food!! I tried attributes both ways – some in health and most in stam, then all in stam – I found with the right food I have plenty of health with everything in stam
Was hoping for a reply on the testing of the Black Rose set. With block reduction thru talents and gear its possible to get block cost to around 250 stam (maybe less). With 1 out of every 5 (5 piece 20% chance) blocks returning 780 stam, those 5 blocks only cost 470 stam. Thats approximately 63% stam regen while blocking.
Hi, how come do you have so much health (30k in the video) while you allocated all of your attributes points to stamina? I’m new to this game and i’m just started to learn tanking veteran dungeons. Ty
Food
I have nearly the same exact gear as you in this vid (all except sholders). All purple enchants for max HP and all the big pieces of armor(head, leg, chest, shield) upgraded to legendary. All this puts me at about 24.5k hp WITH food. I think the difference is your champ points..
One question, just in case i misread: why not green dragons blood for the stamina recovery?
Cheers and keep up the good work,
C
I posted why, but you get same buff from potions.
Why no light armor?
What can i do for more magic resistance?
Hello, i need your help bro, im currently playing as a high elf dragonknight magicka tank(high elf cause race passives give you more magicka while still being able to invest atributes on health) im currently vet 2 and my build works incredibly well (i have it kinda based on your t3 build) healers compliment on my damage absorving abilities and so on so, my main two questions are: im having lots o trouble leveling, can you please tell me the quickest way? And im wondering if i can get your email or something so that i can give you the details of my build and you can give me your Thoughts. please keep up the incredible work you are doing
Deltia has some great video guides for power leveling on his Youtube Channel. Highly recommend.
Which dk build is the highest dps for update 7 PvP wise?
Deltia! Huge fan. As a new Xbox player who’d really like to jump into tanking, is this a build I can work for from the get-go, or should I just level up one of your other builds and then completely respec once I have a lot of CP? Thanks and enjoy the update!
You can.
hey just a quick question i have a v15 nord DK was wondering if i go with the black rose set should i go black rose and footman or black rose and hist bark also with blood spawn?
thanks
Sir Xalvador
That might be a good combo, but I’m going to switch to armor master at end game.
thanks will make the AM instead of Hist Bark…
I know its been a while since you asked that question but I’d just like to point out that you can’t have the 5 piece bonus from both Black Rose and Footman’s with the two piece monster set so I wouldn’t be using it as a Tank.
no nirnhoned trait recommend for this build? thx
Alright Deltia!
No pre answered questions from me, just leaving a comment to say well done on this build it’s working a treat so far on console for me. Keep the good work up mate.
It’s not relevant on consoles till they get the update in two weeks. ….
Listen mate, I’m just giving him a bit of positive feedback. In regards to wether you think it’s relevant or not doesn’t concern me. It’s on an alt who gets next to zero game play, and he’s set now for when the patch drops, but thank you for your input.
You’re here raving about a spec that u admit is on an alt that you never play… That explains why u didn’t realize that it’s a terrible spec till the update comes out.
it may not be completely relevant for console yet, but I agree, I’ve been using it, and I love it. I’m fully expecting once the next update hits it will be even better.
Do you expect him to have the last build just to respect in a few days?
One thing I’ve noticed is that this relies heavily on CP to compensate for what you lack from gear and passives. As a console player who hasn’t had enough time to earn nearly that much CP, is this still a viable build? If not, what should I prioritize?
Hey deltia sorry if someone already asked i tried to look through all these comments. But with all the new sets out do you see changing the gear for this build?
Only for Armor Master instead of Hist.
Hey Deltia thanks for this great build. I use it for a month now with histbark and now I wanted to switch to armor master. I’d like to know if you already tried it and if you could tell me if it works just as fine as histbark.
How does Caltrops act as a taunt? Is it just the damage factor? All tool-tips I’ve seen make no mention of any sort of threat generator tacked onto it.
It use to (update 6) act as melee damage and basically render like you were swinging your sword. Now it doesn’t so Eruption might be a better option.
I personally prefer Eruption – I have used both. Maybe it is just personal preference. Regardless, great build.
Can i use a redguard or orc for this build?… In my opinion a redguard should get beter stamina management, or you go dunmer for another reason?
Sure, but I like Dunmer for magicka and stamina pools plus fire damage. But those are good choices.
hi i have high elf dk is this build still viable,I have nirnhorned on chest and legs torgus pact,3 pieces construct,3 pieces potenetate running all health ap i have morph of heavy armor unstoppable with this buff i have 40k spell resistance and 28k physical resist.
will running all stamina ruin what my dk doing now i burn thru magika as it is low mp recovery of 900i use inner fire to taunt
Not if you don’t use magicka for abilities.
hey, dk tanks can be all about magic, check out my build(values are given without any food or active skill buffs)(vet 5 altmer, xone)
Magic:14550 regen:1010
Health:21540 regen:520
Stamina:8800 regen:590
Spell resist:22341
Phys resist:19542
I run with werewolf for the stam regen
Bar one(cc, minor DoT bar) one hand and shield
-extended chains
-engulfing flames
-green dragon blood
-chocking tallons
-cinder storm
Bar two(single target tanking)one hand and shield
-heroic slash
-puncture
-green dragon blood
-volatile armor
-igneous shield
Passives: all dragonknight, all one hand and shield, all heavy armour(important ones)
Cp points:
Not much until yet but warrior are into heavy armor focus, thief into healthy and mage into small blade damage
All my armor is heavy and in currntly running with four piece seducer and five piece whitestrakers
This build is incredebly fun and effective i really want you to check it out so that people can see how flexible this gane is with builds (as you did with your stam sorc) and that you can give me your expert advice.
No i never run out of stamina abd i dont count on regen while blocking so its good for imperial city.
Best regards, do keep up that most needed, amazing work
Since your playing on console your build isnt being played on the new patch that nerfs stam regen and warewolf.. Which is what Deltias build specifically addresses.. Given your running around in v5 gear also leads me to believe you arent tanking end game content, and most likely arent v14 yourself. In short, the build you detail above will be obsolete when the new update hits on the 15th/16th..
Hey deltia i was curious is an orc a good substitute race for this build????
Hey Deltia, love the build, but I have two questions. 1. What will you switch out for elude (I’m assuming this is what you will be using with armour master) and 2. Will this build run vet dsa? I’m worried with little health it will be hard to survive while tanking Hiath away from the healer. Thanks for the great build
1 don’t know yet, 2 yes I didn’t have any problem tanking Haith.
I run this build with a few changes and I’m in love with it, thanks
This may be kinda late comment here but i am currently not veteran (level 30), should i put all attribute points on stamina still, or should mix them up and later change them?
Btw, I don’t really know a lot about this game when you get to veteran level 😛
you shouldn’t be playing as a tank while leveling, who’s gonna kill stuff? just run as stam dps until u hit vet ranks
Deltia. If it isnt too much to ask, could you give any pointers or builds to a good DK Leveling build, as well as something Tanky/supportive or Offensive in PVP? I came back after a year and everything I knew pretty much changed, im just really having a hard time trying to figure out what to do and go with far as PVP and PVE leveling/CP grinding.
Will you be putting up any other DK builds?
Yes Templar Tank please.
There is possibilty of one in the works in the future, either Deltia or I will help him get that out.
Deltia I know in your video you stated you wanted to cover a really easy way to convert to update 7 I have one question that I am stumped on what would be your optimal gear sets for monster tanking not the easiest what would be the best in your opinon?
Armor Master/Footman combo
Are there any skills you would recommend in place of the pvp skills? I don’t pvp much, so I’m no where near getting them. Thanks for your help.
A good replacement to vigor would be deep breath the morph of inhale because what it does is it provide a heal and does a large amount of aoe damage after 2.5 seconds of casting it. Good aggro grabber. Then eruption, the morph of ash cloud is good, it doesn’t have a heal but an aoe aggro grabber. Then if you use the armor master gear set, which isn’t specified in the build I would use something like harness magicka the morph of annulment or evasion which will give you an epic armor boost from the 5 point passive literally turning you into a walking wall.
So, what skills would I replace with those that you suggested? I’ve really only got 1 space open and 1 ultimate open. Speaking of, what ultimate would I replace war horn with?
Standard of Might definitely because it has a huge aoe in which the enemies recieve major defile (20% reduced healing), and damage dealt is increased by 17% for anyone inside and damage recieved is reduced by 17% for anyone inside. So it’s a great offensive ultimate but also has nice defences to it too. Also with the battle roar it will increase stats like crazy!
So, inhale vs ash cloud vs annulment vs evasion. Which one would be most beneficial to use?
Well to grab tons of adds inhale and ash cloud are really good. Annulment is way better single target fights with magicka bosses. And evasion is really good with heavy adds fight due to 20% dodge chance.
So really it sounds like there isn’t one definite winner that I should use all the time. Rather, switch out based on the fight. That’s a little tedious. Thank you for your help getting this figured out.
Is the placement of the skills on the skillbar is essentialy ? or Can i move them ?
No move them as it fits u
Does that build work for outside imperial city pvp?
hello deltia, nice builds i’ve followed 4 of them!
i was wondering. After watching you do vet dsa with your dark elf dragon knight i was hugely impressed by its damage and /tankieness
im about to start one now on xb1AD, but the question is is there any point in me trying to make a dps/tank in this update?
is it null?
and also why dark elf for a tank build as second choice? is it for the fire increase? or the resist?
PS, i have 191 champion points and to me grinding is the game so hit me with that knowlege 😉
No, I’d stick with one role UNLESS you want to do maelstrom Arena than you need a combination of both. Dark Elf is all around bad ass, no only for what you mentioned but stamina and magicka pools which you need to CC break and dodge roll.
I need help 🙁 I just got back into ESO (console), so I missed the drop of update 7 , I went on pause before August. Anyways, I’m only VR4 and all I’m trying to do is sword and board my way to higher VR levels. Can you truly level with this build? I mean go out, questing, etc while running solo? I feel like dumping all my points in Stamina has either made me super squishy in fights with multiple mobs OR I don’t die but a fight with me vs 3-4 PVE enemies last like 1 minute – 90 seconds 🙁
If you have the skill points try putting them in 2 hander for dps while soloing it is what I do
What if you don’t have war horn and don’t really like to pvp
You can sub it for something else, just not as effective.
I was thinking of the flag one since it reduces damage and does damage since I already have magma armour on the other par
Hey Deltia, big fan.
Quick question, will this build still be the viable tanking set-up for the orc dlc?? Or will There be a better set-up with the sets coming from it?
Thanks in advance
Sure, this setup still works just fine.
Hey Deltia, big fan.

Sorry to repost didn’t click the notify me button :/
This still good for PS4?
Yes PS4 is no difference.
Heya.
Can you please tell me what would you suggest using to replace both Alliance War skills? I don’t really do/don’t want to do PVP, so an alternative would be nice.
Thanks.
Eruption and no replacement for War Horn.
I am a Breton wanting to craft my endgame tank set. Should my primary goal be hitting the hard caps for resistance? I was thinking 4 Alessia’s Bulwark 2 death’s wind for physical resistance which I will combine with blood spawn to constantly be at the cap. Already have robust endurance jewelry and 2 agility weapons for now until I get more mats. Am I on the right track? I’m ps4 btw sorry for the wall of text
Yes resist with good sustain is your goal.
Sorry for double post. 1st post disappeared til I made the 2nd
It would be really great if you could update this with the new armour sets and weapons please? Is any of new sets worth swapping hist for? What about the new rings also? Thanx
Thanks you very much Deltia. Can you make a guide for leveling please? He will help us.
I highly recommend not leveling as a tank. It takes way to long.
Hey man big fan of the builds you post. I’ve been using this build to the T other then engine guardian, (haven’t got the set yet) but one thing I’ve been looking at is the armor master set, I think that it would make your resistance go out the roof if you used the heavy armor ability instead of harden armor. Only issue is finding a 9 trait crafter on xbox. But I’d like your thoughts on it.
Yeah Armor Master with Elude slotted is the best choice. However, it requires a lot of cool down watching which you lack on the consoles. It’s a better tank setup, but not an easier one.
Hey,I would probably switch from footman to pariah set, and change the ring’s enchantment
Hi, I’m level 9. Is this been friendly? I see champion points, and I don’t have those yet.
Salutations, Deltia, I love your builds and I am trying hard to be just like you as it were. But I am Nord while you are a Dark Elf. My question is concerning the passive skills. I have noticed there is a few that I am not willing to get such as : Burning Heat II, Flame Talent II, Flame Resist III, and Dynamic III..which I think there all for DE lines. What would you suggest I use in to replace those? I have all the others you have listed…
Well for extra passives? That I don’t know, anything that seems relative to improve performance.
Hey Deltia what are your thoughts about Armor Master? This build is awesome and has allowed me to tank all end game content, however do you have any plans to further optimize your tank build with all new IC/Orsinium update gear?
I think it’s awesome if you have the traits to craft it.
Any Imperial Templar Tank build? For Tank is it better to play Imperial/Templar or Dunmer/DK?
Hello for tank is it better to play Dunmer/DK or Imperial/Templar?
Dunmer DK for sure.
hey deltia. after this patch, am i use hist bark or Armor Master with evasion?
So Imperial/DK or Dunmer/DK is better? or probably both right?
Both are great, but I’m a Dunmer fanboy for life.
Wait so this is your latest DK build correct?
Hello, I mainly play ESO alone and i was wondering if this build is good for solo play? I know i will be able to tank but will i be able to dish out some damage? This is my only concern, also how does it stand up for PvP?
Thank you for the help!
No, tanking solo is very slow. I’d go with Burning Butcher or Laceration. Tanks are pretty much non-existent in PvP.
Hey deltia,
Have you played around with the idea of pariah instead of footmans? Only problem I see is I’m usually at 90%+ health. Although it could open door to do more “dps” on the back bar
No, I don’t think it’s valuable.
Hello Deltia,
Thanks a lot for all the info and builds you give. I would like to know if you have a build that combines tanking and dps as the same time. Sword and Shield with a 2 Hander? So that we can tank effectively while also doing some damage when needed.
No, I’m one who believes tanks should be tanks.
What do you have to change about this build to make it more for PVP.
Because i want to tank but have no experience in pop but want to do it mainly as end contend.
Well I’d do the Laceration build Sword shield and destro.
Hey deltia, I was wondering what the ult would be for the secondary weapon?? Please respond. Thank you 🙂
War Horn and Magma Armor.
I’m guessing Magma Shell, right?
Hi Deltia, are the gokd versions of the footman items worth the insane increase in price? Stat differences seem very minimal. Cant belief that footman is still best in slot after two more DLCs…
Deltia I am a huge fan and appreciate the time you take to read and respond to most sensible comments. With orsinium jewelry sets in play do you find the glorious defender or permafrost set stacking with elude better than footmans (due to the diminishing returns approaching the armor cap)? I also have a 7 month old at the house and wish you and yours a healthy and happy new year!
I actually meant to put parabellum set in there as well
I don’t like the new sets and stick to the ones that work. Thanks!
I hear Immovable from the Heavy Armor skill line can stack with Hardened Armor to make you a pretty tough cookie, is that true?
They give the same major buff, not that I’m away of.
What is a good build for my nord dk for pvp. Please help I have vampire but I’m working on losing it
I personally like magicka based Laceration sword and shield. You’ll like resources but tanky as hell.
Ok will look In to thanks
Btw I’m on Xbox one not a computer
Hey I’m a nord dk with vampire but I will lose it if I have to can you tell me a good build for pvp? Btw I’m on Xbox
Is it worth dropping footmans for a new different set? As its still only V14. Or should i upgrade to gold Footmans?
Hi deltia, any plans on a magicka based dragonknight tank?
I do need to update my tank builds but been playing FO4 so much lately 🙂
Well if the eso bug bites you again please keep my request in mind 🙂
Hi boss! A new tank build updated in preparation? Thanks you 🙂
Hey Deltia just wondering what the best way to level up alliance war support in PvP to get war horn and the the razor ( aoe taunt ) skills if it isn’t easy to PvP with this build? Thanks so much for your hekp !
Sorry I ment to say alliance war assault *
The best way is to group up and throw out heals on others. Simply killing people solo or in a well coordinated group is the fastest way to get AP.
Hi boss! A new tank build updated in preparation please? Thanks you 🙂
What about Orc for this build ? Especially after their updates to their passives … Thanks
I like Orc now for stam DK might be good for tanking.
Hey Deltia. I just started playing this game and I just started using this build. Is it still viable or should I change anything? Thanks.
Yes just the armor has changed to Armor Master set other than that it still works great at end game.
Right so I love a good tank build, and I really respect your knowledge of esotu Deltia…but me being a tank I just can’t get past the fact that you have no points invested into health (you know that thing that keeps your character alive) and I’d understand it a bit more if you had more magicka to use green dragons blood to just heal yourself through it. But then again the more HP you have the bigger the health pool you regain so investing 0 points into health I just don’t know about that. Perhaps if you used health enchantments I suppose? Look the point I’m trying to get across is that while blocking is all good and very affective at times it’s not always the answer (I’m talking about your huge Stam pool) I have a healer friend who brought up a very good point when we were in a group in imperial city with a few others and this was after we fought the boss she went on to say (after she got a bad rap for “not healing good enough”) “it’s not my fault if you guys stand in the aoe’s but I also can’t heal you for what you guys don’t have” she was talking about their HP and there lack of being able to take a hit. Now it’s just my opinion but I think a “tank” should be able to take a hit without always needing his or her shield up that’s what makes a tank a tank not having to rely on spells or Stam just their extraordinary Health pool and armor+spell risistance. For example my guy has (after he’s eaten food and with the Cyrodiil 5k health boost even though I’m vet16) 53k health 18k Stam 15k magicka and 2k weapon damage which can be buffed up +40% damage on heavy attacks and +150% on targets below 50% health. What he lacks in Stam and magicka he makes up for with tri potions and shear strength (the ability to outlast people) and if I ever get in a sticky situation I just use my Werewolf transformation to finish them off. Forme it’s all about playing smart looking for your opponents weakness (everybody has one) timing, and knowing what ability to use for the situation you find yourself in. Also I only have 300cp and I do just fine and my guys managed 3 sets (kinda seeing as how my deaths wind set has all 5 working, my ashen grip has only 4 active, and my endurance set has all two active lol)
Well if you like higher health and it works for you great, just not my play style.
I can respect that, off topic question but might I ask you your opinion on ward stacking?
I don’t understand, shield stacking DKs or Sorcs?
Sorcs in particular please, some people I’ve played with find it to be “OP” and I’ll admit I do aswell at times I was just wondering what your thoughts were on it and if you have any recommendations on how to better combate these goes for someone like me who uses sword and shield. As of now I’ve gotten better at fighter them (kinda) but every time I get into a 1v 1 with a shield stacking sorc I let out a big sigh and give Myself! a face palm for thinking the sorc may not use them. I think when it comes down to it though you may just have to play smart and carefully? Idk I’ve tried and done all I can do I was just wondering if you had any advice (and what your thoughts are on sorc shield stacking)
Shield Stacking Sorcs are very powerful, but people don’t know how to deal with them. Stuns/Immobilizes that’s it. If a shield stacking Sorc sits and stacks, guess what, they’re doing zero damage to you. Keep pressure on them.
Thank you I’ll do my best with this information? Also idk if you’d take the time to read over my build if I gave it to you as describing it would be a very long read for you lol but if you’d consider it and tell me your thoughts it would be such a HUGE help as always though I won’t take any offense if you don’t I’ll understand if your to busy believe me I get it? but hey thanks anyways for everything you’ve done already it’s certainly more than enough so again thank you so much Deltia?
If you can send you build through the contact us post than I can read through it.

Well he clearly said in the “contact us” link. Which 99% of all websites have that toward the bottom of every webpage. So scroll down from this post.
Just go to top bar and contact me.
Ok, I just finished watching your Dragonknight update for patch 3.3. That has left me wondering how that will change this build. It looks like the update will be great for magika (sp?) users, but as this is heavily dependent on Stamina I was wondering how that will effect the T7.
I will go more magicka based with Engulfing Flames and Draw Essence.
Hi Deltia. Its still the best build for tank? Footman is still essential ?
Thanks very for your amazing job.
yeah but go with Armor Master over hist bark and slot Elude.
Can you please update your Tank build after TG Update drops. Thank you
So. I am new to game. I made a breton Dragon Knight. And i have put points into dif things so far than your build. is it to late? or can i just start putting points into skills according to your build?
No, you can always respec and start over.
Hi Deltia!
What class/race do you think will be best for the Thieves Guild update?
A new Tank build would be great 🙂
I haven’t really played eso much since before imperial city was released. I’m trying to get back into endgame tanking now, is this build still viable, or is there a new tanking meta?
Yeah it’s very similar though I’ll go back to magicka/more offense in Thieves Guild.
Let me start by saying, nice build 😀
I do have a question about your champion points. You spend 100 points in “Apprentice – Blessed” but you spend 0 points in “Lord – Quick Recovery” (the first option increases the healing you initiate and the second increases effectiveness of healing received). At 16:10 in your video you say that the absolute best thing to do is to up “Blessed” (compared to the other blue options). Did you leave out “Quick Recovery” because you think “Blessed” is enough, or because you “needed” to spend the “red” points into the other options? Or does “Quick Recovery” not work on self heal (i thought it did)?
My opinion today is Quick Recovery is better than blessed.
If quick Re over is better then blessed.. and you now show vigor and not caltrops – are you going to post an update for the dk stam tank?
Quick question – I don’t know if it has been answered yet… For Armor Master – should I just run a 4 piece set since you don’t have any armor abilities slotted? Or is it better to run 5 and slot an armor ability, and if so, what should I swap out?
Also, what do you think about 4 piece AM, 5 piece Histbark and 3 piece Endurance (rings and amulet)?
The second option, I don’t find value in 4 pc AM, I’d stick to 5/5.
Hi, Deltia! I just started playing again, I like tanking and I’m following this build. But I have one question. Until I can get Agressive Horn (I don’t know if I’m gonna get it at all, cuz I suck at PVP :D), what should my ultimate be on the first bar?
Hey deltia I was wondering if you will be doing an updated version of this tank build and what do you think of the pariah set for tanking ?
Is this up to date for thieves guild dlc?
I’m building from this currently. Where should I put the extra CP for the Orsinium DLC?
Do you still use the engine helm and shoulders?
Hey Deltia!Im have 40k spell resist,37k phys resist unbuffed for my DK,and very bad for pvp.I easy done Wgt,ICP.Im dead for any pvp, what im need use for unkillable in pvp?Im see emperor have +57k resist.
Well you need to focus on blocking and control skills like Talons.
What level difference makes armor stop being feasible? I had a V13 Engine Guardian helm drop for me today and am curious how that will compare to a V16 helmet of set X. With cake out now I assume I will level cap this week.
Is there a breakdown on the math you would use to calculate that? Would it be worth just grinding the caverns again when I hit 16?
Sub vr15 really. I don’t know the math on it.
Good day,
With the new thieves guild update and all the changes the DK recieved, especially with Igneous weapons, how and/or would you incorporate Igneous Weapons in the skills. All these skills are great and hard to replace, but I feel that igneous weapons is almost a must need and can’tfigure out if its worth while to replace one of these skills.
Yeah it’s a good question. I need to revamp this build which I’m doing using Tava’s Blessing and Glorious Defender. It’ll be new focused on offense and Warhorn. The DK has so many good skills I’ll need some time testing what I can and cannot drop. Igneous Weapons will be one of them and maybe Engulfing Flames as well.
I am currently using this build for my tank and love it. i also don’t have razor caltrops yet so I put Igneous Weapons in its place, but once I get caltrops I don’t know what I will do. Engulfing flames would be great, especially if you have a Dunmer DK magicka dps in the group. Flame damage for the win. What are your thoughts about Mark of the Pariah? I am currently Trying to get that and would like to go 5pc Hist Bark, 5pc Pariah, and Engine Guardian helm set.
Also keep up the good work. you put in a lot of effort putting these builds together to help out the ESO community. I can only imagine what it’s like having to create new characters, deleting some, testing builds, etc. You have my respect and thank you for everything you do. If you ever find yourself on PS4, I wouldn’t mind playing with you sometime. I also understand how busy you are. But keep it man, great work!
Caltrops isn’t really needed (if you must have an AOE, Eruption is good enough) – I’d rather have Vigor on my bar. Taunt, pull and talons works as a great rotation. Igneous weapons is key as well, especially on boss fights in the tougher dungeons.
BTW- my guild right now is 5pc histbark, 4 pc Armor master with 3 pc. Endurance. We have a great Tmplar healer who doesn’t let me run out of Stam (just pop potions on long boss fights). It also helps to have Inner Fire for a magika based taunt – coagulating blood for magika heal, vigor for stam heal., etc. Since there is 5 pc HB, unstoppable instead of shuffle.
build not guild…
My build is pretty much the same. 5pc Hist bark, 4pc Song of Lamae, and 3 pc endurance. I too also have great healers that throw shards at me. The only problem is when you get horrible healers that don’t have shards or even throw them, then stamina can be a problem, especially on the more difficult dungeons like WGT and ICP. So having the ability to not rely on templars to always provide you with stamina is a big plus.
Agreed! Good healers are hard to find! Luckily the crew I run with is pretty set – every now and then we have to substitute a DPS and we make sure we run all the big/tougher dungeons together. Like Deltia says I run plenty of tri-pots, etc. btw, http://www.eso-skillfactory.com/en/build/dragonknight/nutzbasher/8371/ is my build (minus the caltrops).
unlike most tanks (I suppose), I don’t block 100% of the time – I don’t find it effective. I allow myself to take a little bit of damage and switch back and forth between stam. and magika taunts. I’m not really using caltrops, so that stam buster is out of the picture. If I have to grab a lot of mobs, I center on the majority of them, through down talons, pull the ones outside and recast talons. With you using SoL our builds are pretty close! Are you on console or PC?
BTW – I have the same idea as you with EG, Pariah and HB. Finally working on getting all of my Pariah now. (I slacked for awhile!)
BTW – I have the same idea as you with EG, Pariah and HB. Finally working on getting all of my Pariah now. (I slacked for awhile!)
Console-PS4. Trying to get the pieces for pariah can be a pain in the ass. I only have one piece right now, just need one more armor and all the jewelry. Trying to find people to do the wrothgar bosses can be a pain. I also run pretty much the same skills. Instead of caltrops, I have absorb magic for a heal from spell projectiles and decrease in block cost and increase in damage I can block.
North America? Feel free to add me on PSN – jzhnutz
Will do. My psn is xXTOONESTONEXx. We’ll have to grind for those pieces together. Now the question is, What alliance? I’m Daggerfall Covenant.
that may be a problem… EP here haha. Regardless… maybe you can run some dungeons with us?!?! When we drop a DPS I always want to switch to mine, but then we are left tankless. We are also in the process of putting together a trials team… meaning we need 8 more people 🙂
Jared…yeah definitely. I know how you feel. The guild I’m in I do most of the tanking during dungeons, but that also has to do with the fact I don’t have a vet 16 dps. Currently working on a stamplar, only vet 2. But if you ever need a tank, I don’t mind as long as I’m not doing something else, even for a trials.
Awesome man! Ironically… I also run a stamplar… (got him to vet 16 though). I’ll definitely keep you in mind for sure.
Hey deltia nice build i am running it for months…will you make a reborn with more champion points and probably armor master set?
No, I’ll be using Tava’s Blessing and Glorious Defender for a really offensive group utility heavy build.
What are the ultimates for this build? I do not see them..thanks!
Aggressive Warhorn is the main one.
What if I don’t play PvP?
Hey Deltia,
it’s my favorite Tank build and I wanted to ask you if you would update this build.
Thank You.
Yes I’ll do it tomorrow.
Hi Deltia. When I click on the link up your skills, it has “resolving vegor” from the PVP Assault line. Is this intended or a mistake? Thanks.
Thats intended for self healing.
You don’t have it in your video or rotation .. What skill did you sacrifice for it?
quick questions?
in your description of what you have in your bars you mention Sword and shield in both but in your description of you gear you list maul? Was that on purpose? Also, you list on weapon one and two shield as a glyph. I can not imagine this was done on purpose as that is a jewelry glyph.
I might have missed it in the video explanation
That build is no longer updated, the link at the top takes you to current build.
Deltia,
Hey brother I went to the link and watched the T7 video (great work by the way)… Your spread sheet for armor build is the same one (I believe and did not compare to closely) you have posted here. Which still gives me the same questions. Weapon one and weapon two are glyphed with Shield. Is that not a jewelry based glyph?
I am a horrible tank and trying to use your suggestions to get better. I am trying to do DSA but not having much luck so I am struggling with obtaining the footman armor. Currently in its place I am using all hist bark
It gives you a shield when you hit someone every five second.
Mr. Deltia, I figured it out. During your video you show your weapon (that sounds so wrong). You have hardening on it. Where as the armor build spread sheet shows shield.
Great job on the video. Great info!!!
I know this build is no longer updated but is it still viable?
Yes
Want to start by saying I love this site. I’m an on again off again ESO player, but you always have a ton of legit information and builds. How might you adjust this build for the dark brotherhood patch? I’m not looking for a skills overhaul, but it does look like the CP load-out will change. Specifically, I noticed block expertise has moved out of steed, over to shadow if I read correctly. So move points out of tower? Not sure how important that is, but then you still end up with a lot of leftover points from Steed. Interested to hear what your thoughts were.
Not something I can answer quickly. I’ll update the build soon.
Hello, why are you using slayer and skilled tracker passive skill when theres no fighter guild skill in youre skill bar?
That is an outdated build, the new one is linked at the top.
Ok thank you very much for this awsome work, i really enjoy it!!!
Hey Deltia 🙂
I hope you can explain this to me, I use footman + armour master + blood-spawn. And I’m wondering if the setup really would be better with the hist bark setup ?
Better for mitigation? Nope, better for group utility, yes.
