Ignition Sorcerer Build for Elder Scrolls Online

Ignition, by definition is the action of setting something on fire or starting to burn.  No this not a cheap R Kelly video, this build literally vaporizes everything with a bath of fire and lighting.  I have literally flown back on the Sorc DPS bandwagon in Elder Scrolls Online 2.0 and I’m about to show you why.  If you love caster magicka builds, high damage, nukem and jukem, this is the one: Ignition Sorcerer Build for Elder Scrolls Online.

Objective

Ignition Updated 2.0.12

When I started off my play testing with the Sorcerer, I tried to go the stamina route like my previous 1.6 builds.  I wasn’t finding a lot of success and said screw it, I’m going back to magicka roots along with my High Elf heritage.  I’m so glad I did because it finally feels like a perfect class and race for a massive damage.  I wanted to use some of Parfax’s build thoughts, but create something of my own focused on simplistic game-play but fun and powerful.  Again, this this is strictly for DPS and mainly for end-game PvE content.  This might not be the worlds highest damage dealer, but you can blow through nearly all the content in the game and never feel underpowered.

This build uses a blend of gear, skills, passives, and racial bonuses to accomplish devastating sustained damage.  You have two toggled abilities on giving you a massive boost in max magicka which determines how hard you abilities hit.  My current build has over 32,000 magicka and 20,000 health.  You are a magicka user and thus rock double destruction staffs preferably fire.  You can swap out a restoration staff for backup healing or utility, but double destro works best.  Here’s a quick run down of positives and negatives of the build.

+ Ridiculous DPS

+ Simple

+ You truly feel like an electric warlock badass

– Squishy

– Lacks utility for straight damage

Skills Ignition Skills

Bar One Destruction Staff (Fire)

  • Inner Light (morph of Mage Light | Mages Guild skill line) – Whether on bar one or two, you’re keeping Inner Light on at all times to gain the extra 10% spell critical and 5% max magicka.
  • Force Pulse (morph of Force Shock | Destruction Staff skill line) – Yes the other morph of Crushing Shock got a damage boost and now adds some ranged AoE.  Consider this your main range attack and use Crystal Fragments as a knockdown or interrupt.
  • Bound Aegis (morph of Bound Armor | Daedric Summoning skill line) – A small boost to armor and spell resistance, but a massive increase in max magicka.  Leave it on at all times for a DPS increase.
  • Crystal Fragments (morph of Crystal Shards | Dark Magic skill line) – The original “hits like a truck” skill is back and once again viable for high end DPS.  The animation has been cleaned up and this sucker hits for 15,000 damage when proc’d.  Wait for your hands to glow purple and send off a frag for massive damage.  Avoid casting this otherwise as the instant and reduced cost are important to maintain high DPS.
  • Liquid Lighting (morph of Lighting Splash | Storm Calling skill line) – An interesting choice, but a massive single target DPS skill.  Only place this once a group or a boss has been parked.  This is tick constantly for a massive amount of damage and is like our Sorc DoT if you will.
  • [Ultimate] Shooting Star (morph of Meteor | Mages Guild skill line) – Holy meteors, this thing is absolutely a DPS rockstar.  In a group or single target, meteor hits like a truck than returns ultimate back.  With a 170 cost on this ability due to Sorc passives, I’m casting Meteors much faster than a Dragonknight and doing just as much damage.  Trick is, make sure the mob is parked because the ground damage does a lot over time AND that it’s not about to die.

Bar Two Destruction Staff (Fire)

  • Inner Light (morph of Mage Light | Mages Guild skill line) -Same as above.
  • Power Surge (morph of Surge | Storm Calling skill line) – This is where we get our spell power buff from.  I also like this for decent self healing and its 23 second up time.  Really, this is the only buff you need to recast during fights.  And if you don’t want to, just use a spell power potions though you’ll be missing out on self heals.
  • Bound Aegis (morph of Bound Armor | Daedric Summoning skill line) – Same as above.
  • Elemental Ring (morph of Impulse | Destruction Staff skill line) – Mainly our flex spot considering we have decent AoE on bar one.  You can even use a Restoration Staff if you like and heal here.  Heck even sword and board.  But the most damage will come from a Destruction Staff master weapon with high magicka.  Spam Elemental Ring after casting a liquid lighting on a crowd and watch them burn.
  • Mages’ Wrath (morph of Mages’ Fury | Storm Calling skill line) – Your back bar finisher that I don’t use unless fighting a boss. Swap back here and smash down that Wrath!
  • [Ultimate] Energy Overload (morph of Overload | Storm Calling skill line) – Not only does this give us access to a third bar (yep), but returns magicka back as well.  The nice thing here is, you can pop this on, use the ultimate for magicka or place Dark Conversion on your third bar for some resources.  Make sure your third bar the two toggled abilities slotted.  This is out trick to never running out of resources.

Basic idea here is buff with Inner Light and Bound Aegis, fire up Power Surge for 23 seconds, swap to bar one, Liquid Lighting target if it’s stationary than Force Pulse.  You keep this rotation going (23 sec on surge, 10 on lighting than casting force whenever free) until a Crystal Fragment proc happens (I’ll show in video).  BOOM, launch that sucker and go back into priority mode.  You might get 3 procs back to back to back and you might not get one for a minute.  Random is random, just be prepared to take advantage of the frag.

The rest is simple, swap to bar two if you need resources, AoE damage, or finisher for a boss with a lot of health.  Always always use potions.  Luckily this build doesn’t rely on expensive Spell Power/crit ones so the cheap VR 1 or 5 will sustain you well into a two minute fight.  And always drop Shooting Star when it’s up BUT make sure the boss is stationary.  It’s better to wait two seconds for the tank to move the boss into position so you can get the full 11 second ground burning effect.  That with liquid lighting will skyrocket your DPS, and wipe an army of mobs.

Ignition Attributes and Stats

Ignition Gear Chart

Shirt of Martial Knowledge  Martial Knowledge – I started seeing this at around VR 11 though you can pick it up at VR 14 in Cyrodiil delves chest or dolmens.  A good replacement if you’re low level would be anything that added spell power.

2 items – Adds max magicka

3 items – Adds spell power

4 items – Adds spell power

Valkyn Skoria's SetSkoria – The City of Ash monster two piece set.  More info on monster helms here.

1 item – Adds health

2 items – chance to proc meteor doing magicka damage and DoT flame damage

Adroitness SashAdroitness – A strong two piece set for high spell damage found in Crypt of Hearts.

2 items – Adds spell power

Band of Cyrodiil's LightCyrodiil’s Light -Only found in PvP Light of Cyrodiil is one of the highest two piece damage dealing sets for magicka users.

2 items – Adds spell damage

Inferno Master StaffMaster Weapon – Only through completing Dragonstar Arena (normal or VR 14 versions on Vet) can you obtain this. I’d only go with this IF you have the precise trait maybe sharpened.  The added 900+ magicka at update 2.0 can get you to the 33k magic mark.  A good substitute is Nirnhoned staff (set doesn’t matter).

Mundus Stone – I go with the Mage for even more magicka.  Our total pool is hard to run out of with constant potions and Overloads.  Great sustained so I switched away from Atronach.

Food – I now go with double stat food Lillandril Summer Sausage.

Attributes and Race Choice – It’s very hard to say choose X race and do Y with your attributes.  I’d highly recommend reading both guides because without asking you 30 questions I honestly can’t say.  I now aim for 18,000 health and the rest in magicka.  This also greatly varies depending on your faction and Cyrodiil bonuses which will be going away.

Higher Magicka – If you wanted even more damage, you can run 5 light 1 medium and 1 heavy (shoulders/helm) for the Undaunted 6% bonus.  I do swap to this setup with 300+ champion points and Undaunted skill line level 9.

Champion Points

For the full guide go here

The Tower Champion Points The Apprentice Champion Points The Lady Champion Points

Thief Tree

  • Arcanist – for magicka regeneration
  • Magician – for decreased magicka cost (I go about 50/50% with my champion points here)

The Mage

  • Get 30 points into Apprentice for the 30 point so you get the 12% spell critical
  • Than move to the Ritual and dump everything into the Thaumaturge for more damage (yes it’s in the physical tree)

The Warrior

  • The Bastion for healing ward/hardened ward

Another thing I will spend time on in the video considering it’s very complex to write all the information out when I can explain very easily.

As you can see, this build isn’t really made for players starting out at level 3.  If you want to play this style, use a Resto staff until level 15.  Grab a Destro staff and use Resto for off healing.  Work up both skill lines along with your main skill line.  Only unlock abilities that are useful and focus on unlocking skill points and passives.  Spend attributes on health, keep it simple.  Don’t craft elaborate gear, you’ll be flying through content left and right and it’ll waste your time.  Once you reach VR 1-5 then things start to settle in.  Your number one priority is to get light armor to 50 and max out all the passives.  This will allow you to cast many more spells.

Regarding gear, there’s really no substitute for monster heads.  You can do a good craft-able setup for 4 piece willows and 4 piece twlights or even Torugs Pact.   That’ll get you through most of the content until you can start trying for those VR dungeons.  Once you reach VR 10, now you’re just about there.  All your skills should be good to go and you’ll just need to track down some stellar gear.

This is suppose to be fun, and ultimately if you’re not try something else.  Anything else!  If you love it, let me know.  I feel like an electric volcano doing damage like I’ve never done before.  It’s simple, easy and fun.  Plus I feel powerful and I hope you will too.  I hope you enjoyed the latest build many more to come (healer than tank…then pvp).

Great build, just noticed a small typo I wanted to bring to your attention, I know you throw these on fast just wanted to let you know. You say liquid lightning is a morph of lightning form, most of us will know this but might confuse some new players. Thanks for the great build.

Deltia, I like your build if I am in a group. However, I am V7 and solo a lot. What changes would you make to your guild for PvE and around V5-9? Also, I noticed your build didn’t take the newly buffed up pets into account ,which is being further buffed in the new imperial city upcoming patch. Would you use recommend pets when either soloing or grouping?
A good discussion of what you would do while leveling alone would be a great help. Thanks

The best thing Ive found for solo play as a sorc believe it or not is vampire. The devouring swarm ultimate is amazing for keeping yourself alive and refilling all your health when you are overwhelmed. That mixed with power surge, hardened ward, and elemental ring make taking down mobs solo a breeze

I am a console player and I love the build I hope you find another like this delta and yes elemental ring is good I haven’t played in a while so I must say the other morph is impulse I do believe and with the magic build it is dropping armour like a beast and it hits hard it’s an excellent aoe

Deltia love the site man!! Hey my sorc is only v10 but I have all the same things with exception of some vamp on 3rd bar. Wanted to share that I switched the lighting splash and mages wraith in my splash is on 2nd bar with elemental and surge. I hit surge, fire up lightning slash then run into my splash and unload with elemental, nothing survives!!! Besides that everything is the same and works do great!! Hate being a squishy though.. Just wanted to share!! Thanks
      For a great site!!

This is a really solid build. I’ve loved using the builds you come up with Deltia because they always have cool niche bits about them that make them both effective and fun to play. Keep up the good work man and I’ll see you in Cyrodil.

Sounds like a nice build, thx for posting.
Another thing to think about now is Mages tree, Entropy – both morphs give 20% increase in Spell dmg for 12+ seconds.

Yes but Power Surge does the same thing and has a 23 second duration rather than 14 making it better.

It is true that Power Surge lasts longer, however the cost is exponentially more expensive. Look again at the costs between the two, and you’ll see what Kahimbra was conveying. I used to use Critical Surge pre 1.6, now I use Entropy for that very reason. even if I spam Entropy 3 or 4 times the ding to my magicka cost, is minor.

You also have to think about what recasting entropy is going to cost you in DPS though too. Not casting your buff as often means you’re putting down damage more often. That’s why the stamina templars keep finding that using backlash on their DPS builds is actually a DPS loss.

I don’t know if you have looked at the numbers. But as a VR14 Sorc, Surge costs me 3822 Magicka, Entropy costs me 958.
            Here is the math.
At a cost of 3822 Magicka Surge lasts 20 secs. Entropy at a cost of 958 lasts 14.4. Surge wins for duration, but loses on Magicka cost and is gets worse. Casting Surge 3 times will cost 11,466 Magicka for a 60 sec duration. Not bad. Now Entropy’s turn. Casting Entropy only costs 958 Magicka, but for a shorter duration. For a little bit more that the cost of Surge, I can cast Entropy 12 times at a cost of 11,496. That’s 30 more Magicka that Surge, now the good part. That near same cost to cast Surge lets me do so 12 times versus 3 for about the same cost, but for a total duration of 172.8 secs or 2.88 minutes. Bam! The benefits of Power Surge are undeniable. But the cost is unacceptable at least for me.
I need as much mana as I can keep while using it to do dmg. 3822 Magicka cost is more than the cost of a Crystal Frag at 2867 for me. Entropy helps me Crit and Proc my spells for less cost. The cost of Entropy is only 29% the cost of Surge.

            Thanks

Hmmm, I can’t respond to your latest comment so I’ll put it here.

You didn’t really have to do the math on the magicka. It is obviously cheaper to cast entropy. The question is how does that affects your DPS. I was just pointing out that having to take that extra time out of casting damaging spells is going to lower your dps in the long run, which I’m guessing was a part of Deltia’s reason for using power surge. Maybe it isn’t that big a difference, I haven’t tested it, but needing to rebuff more often is going to adversely affect damage output. However, Entropy seems like it is definitely a valid option if the magicka is too much of a problem. But watching the video it looks like it does ok on magicka.

There are also the passives to consider, you gain a 1% bonus to spell damage with the sorc skill slotted vs a 1% max magicka and magicka regen with entropy. I personally don’t know which would be better dps wise there.

It all comes down to personal preferences and playstyle though. I know I’d try really hard to fit in a medium and heavy piece for the skoria set in order to get the extra health and magicka from the undaunted line.

I wonder if taking out Bound Aegis and putting in Elemental Susceptibility is worth it. That is 8000 Spell Resistance gone for 24 seconds and then its refreshed. You don’t have to worry about any real upkeep other then your rotation.

        Deltia,
What do you think about running impulse instead of force shock?

        My current setup is

        Skillbar 1:
C frag, impulse, light splash, bound aegis, velocious curse

2: mages wrath, power surge, hardened ward, bounded aegis, frost clench.

        Lightning staff

        Frost staff

Whats should i change for more dps. And i saw in your video your run hardened ward on 3rd bar, but i find i use often for aoe groups because im still vr10. Other than then do your prefer force shock? Thanks big fan of your work.

Wanted to ask about your requirement for a “gap closer” on your list of must haves.

    Any thoughts?

I don’t think sorcerors need a gap closer because it’s better for them to have space. After all, all their weapons and abilities are ranged and many other classes want no space in between them and the target to do good damage. It’s best to stay far away from your targets and nuke them.

Great build. I run similar but I swapped Valkyn and decided to run torugs with the martial for spell damage and health. I also run 4 healer for the magic , spell damage and recovery. I decide to run 1 med helm and a heavy chest for the undaunted 6% stats passive. My damage seems to work best with this balance. Try it out and see what you think. keep up the great work.

It’s great for stamina builds, as you already have more defenses, the drain gives you stamina, and becomes a primary form of healing and defense.

Of course that fails against a boss, because even if a boss can be drained (and can only be drained once), if the target is immune to stuns, the ability doesn’t activate at all.

I’ve had to rely on rally or entropy for healing when that fails, but I’m also a sorc with over 50% crit, plus crit rush, and hunter on my bar.

It’s funny really, I’m a sorc that only uses surge. Kinda sad.

On next attack, which can also be said as on next applied damage.
Which means that it is either ignored by a dot, or consumed by the first tick of a dot.

Empowered is laughably broken, as it affects sun fire’s burst damage portion, but doesn’t affect fire rune’s burst damage portion, whether you have the dot morph or not.

I’ve complained about this on multiple occasions, but there seems to be no desire to make the buff consistent.

However, now solar flare affects itself, so that’s a plus.

If my calculations are right that setup should proc the meteor every 5 seconds. If you take a Lightning staff as second weapon you can use Wall of Elements to proc bot meteor and disintegration.

It will be terrible, you mainly need defense and sustain in pvp. This is build to do high damage to stationary targets. In pvp you should use at least hardened ward and ball of lightning, two of the best defensive sorc skills.

It is bizarre, but it’s the way it works with 1.6, and nothing to do with the weapon traits. I never would have even thought of checking something like this, but came across the info while looking at the templar healer 103 thread on tamriel foundry. I think it’s a 100+ gain in spell damage.

That’s because every weapon offers it’s value in weapon and spell damage equally.

The only difference is that you won’t be able to light weave, either choosing between losing that damage, or losing range (deadly).
The next problem is that you don’t get any of the destro passives. Not as much of a problem because we aren’t using destro attacks, but I think there’s a few passives that affect everything, right?

I tried this build and I like it. However in boss fights I seem to run out of magicka real fast. I am only VR5, and my equip is not the best, so I am only at 20k magicka (w/o food) and 1182 magicka regen.

I tried equilibrium, but it requires a bar switch and consumes time to execute, and also only restores mana for like 1 spell (I have it still at lvl1 w/o morph though).

Should I focus on using enegery overload to restore magicka in fight? So far I saved ultimate for meteors.

    Any tips?

I really like the look of Ignition for endgame, however I was wondering why you use mages fury over endless fury as the explosion of mages fury only does more splash damage (in a small radius) and the kill proc of endless fury restores far more magica than the cost of several casts of the spell.

I’m no expert but I think mages wrath does more damage when u use it as an execute. The explosion deals a bigger splash damgage, true, but it also deals more damage to the target when it explodes. This would be stronger bc this is a damaged based build and magicka doesn’t seem like much of a problem

For endgame PvE, you use this on bosses that won’t give you back magicka so more damage is better.

Hey I have been following this build for my first play through of the game. I know it is not meant for low levels but I am doing it and love it. I just wanted to know your thoughts on velocious curse skill because I am not a high enough level to get bound aegis or conjured ward yet so I have this set in one of those slots until i get those skills and respec. My problem is that once I can get bound aegis and conjured ward they take up two slots on my bars but I would still like to use velocious curse because it does a lot of damage and helps to proc crystal frag. Is there any place for this skill in this build? The way I currently play at level 28 is i hit my first enemy with curse, liquid lightning the ground, and spam with force pulse until crystal frag procs and repeat. Thanks in advance!

Curse is a great ability and it blows up targets in PvP. You can not use bound aegis and have more skills available which a lot of people do outside of specific PvE encounters.

Yes if you like Curse, throw it into your rotation for massive burst.

if you find you are not using destruction staff at all on second bar..switch to 2h or dw – for some reason they give a spell dmg increase ( a pretty big one too). Then you can rely on your lightning spells (I use lightning form and liquid lightning – then just do light attacks with the 2h – the first passive unlocked in 2h allows your light and heavy attacks to hit more than one target and it rapid builds your ultimate. with power surge up you are ticking crit heals and since that boosts weapon and spell dmg all your attacks benefit.

p.s. and as you level up the 2h you open up more passives that basically increase your dmg on 2h sword ( my weapon of choice since I seem to get a 2h every time I do a trial and never get aethers….) you can enchant it for shock dmg as well..

Ive tried this build (with some adjustments) in trails and got between 11-13k single target dps without Valkyn Skoria.

I do have a suggestion for boss fights with long execution phases and I would like to know what you think about this. You can use Elemental Blockade with a Lightning Staff instead of Fire Ring on your second bar. Liquid Lightning, Lighting Blockade and Mages Wrath will tick lightning damage about 6x per second. This will increase the chance to proc the 8k Disintegration damage to 36%, increasing execution dps by 2.9k theoretically.

Cool build but I have a couple questions:
    1. Seems too squishy, I’ve ran vdsa with this build and with 7/7 light and no ward fire ring spamming (requiring you to be in the middle of the pack) just leads to a quick death.
    2. I question the Valkyn choice as there seems to be a lack of DOTs. (Seems like force pulse and liquid lightning are the only DOTs in single target) Wouldn’t possibly 2 piece torugs be beneficial instead for the extra spell damage?
    3. I ran this build and was having problems with mana sustain in a long fight. Sure I can swap to the 3rd bar and channel dark conversion but it takes a heavy toll on DPS. Unless somebody is running elemental drain/siphon spirit in the group my magicka just doesn’t keep up.
    4. Cyrodiil’s Light Rings are 75-90k each; any jewelry alternatives?

      1) switch out something for Hardened Ward of Boundless Storm.

      2) You can but Impulse and your fire staff enchant are DoTs too

      3) Usually in a longterm fight there’s always someone running Siphon. You can use your backbar for that and ely drain on number one in a none AoE fight. You’ll never run out unless you’re a nord.

      4) Ring of the healer isn’t bad

what ever faction you are there are smaller ring sets +staff that give spell damage (in df they are called covenant rings) that plus the ice staff gives spell dmg and crits and you can re-enchant the rings to give more spell dmg…cheaper until you can get the cyrodil’s ight rings.

You mention some crafted 4/4 sets for low pre-VR14 levels..
More accurate you said about Torug’s Pact with a combo of Twilight’s Embrace for more Health + Spell Power (and a bit of Spell crit.)

Wouldn’t a 5/5 Seducer would be better with a 4/4 one of the previous?

I understand that for PvP (close encounters) you need sustain in order to fight but wouldn’t this “fighting style” work if you were a nuker firing from behind? Or the same skill rotation in PvP does not cause enough burst damage?

Nonetheless if you have the time, would you mind posting to us a build guide on PvP for this type of character?

Im extremely squishy (13k) health so i used the hardend ward instead of surge and put the dark exchange on my 2nd bar instead of elemental ring with my devouring swarm ult on the 2nd as well and it seems to work out pretty nice also. Fantastic and simple build probalby my favorite yet. im a vr4 with 28.2k magika on this build and 1400 spell damage. “he hits like a mack truck” now thanks for the ignition.

      -20% additional magical damage
      -mana restoration

      It’s made out of:
      -cornflower
      -Water Hyacinth
-Lady’s Smock (im not sure about that one, how i said i have the german client and the name there is “Wiesenschaumkraut” but the traits should be the same)

    Really cool guide.

I have a series of noobish questions:
    1) the famous war between Structured Enrtopy and Power Surge; except the duration of surge, what are the reasons you chose it? According to the spell expanation, crit strikes heal of the same amount of the damage. The crystal proc is considered a crit? If so, i’d choose PS, otherise I’d rather chose SE even because the more times i cast spell, the higher is the crystal proc chance (I’d rather to put enrtopy on main bar)
    2) From your experience is good to have one piece of heavy and medium armor to get the Undaunted Mettle passive? I’ll get a 6% of Magicka, Health and Stamina losing 28% of magicka recovery. Does it wirth or not?
    3) Noobest question… :pcould you provide an chart to be sure i understand everything you chosen?

I like Power Surge because the amount of self healing it provides me makes me tanky. However, pure max damage, you can’t beat Structured Entropy for more heal.

It can be worth it, if you do short fights or run elemental drain. During a 120 second serpent fight, no, but a 40 second spindleclutch boss, yes.

I don’t know which chart you want me to make?

Something like this one. I tried to mix this build with the pvp one.

I switched power surge with entropy :p
The 2 handed sword as second weapon is because you have e better damage output

I like Power Surge because the amount of self healing it provides me makes me tanky. However, pure max damage, you can’t beat Structured Entropy for more heal.
I have a very good tank mate, so, if you say that entropy is for max dps, i’ll go entropy ^^

I enjoy and rely on all your sources of information. I think they’re the best of anyone else’s on the internet but that’s the one area you seem to fall short in so many of your videos/guides. Maybe passives are more obvious to veteran players but to newer ones, who are many of the people that will be looking for this info, it would be helpful to include deeper passive description. Such as which ones we should choose, how they work, and how soon we should get them.

Not trying to troll and maybe I missed something along the way but I appreciate the guides. Thanks in advance.

    Hi there.
I love the look of this build for endgame, but I would like to lvl initially as a stam sorc as that also looks a lot of fun 🙂 I having an issue as to which race I choose. Do I pick all magika (altmer or Breton), but then if I decide to stick with the stam build it might be an issue, or do I start with an Imperial or redguard but then I lose the magika benefits. Or dumner as that has a bonus to both?? Sorry for the silly question but any advice for the best race to have a go at both of these types before I settle would be much appreciated. Thanks

High Elf for pure damage, Dunmer for PvP and Breton for balance.

im using this build the best i can but i am having some mana starvation issues of when i run out of magicka is can’t for the life of me keep it maintained even using heavy attacks and pots in between and end up resource starved at the worst times possible. champion point magicka recovery doesnt seem to help to hard either

Reduce magicka is way better than the regen magicka when it comes to champion points. Try reduction and see if you notice a big difference! 🙂

hey , thanks for reply earlier . Was wondering if you could maybe explain what a crafted 4 and 4 piece torugs set is and maybe how to craft that ,

Im currently VR 5 with the build , dont really use power surge a whole lot cause switching bars is a hassle , unless i know im going into a boss or hard fight and can prep .

Also i only have about 12.5k health but around 22k magic without the pvp buffs , spent 22 points into health and hoping to maybe use to armour with health on and the rest magicka .

But yeah , need some advice on crafting the torugs set or at least what material it uses so i can start saving for it please

    Thanks in advance

You cannot craft Morag only from PvP do you get it. I honestly wouldn’t worry much about min/maxing your character at VR5 just level it.

I am currently running your exact build and gear minus the master staff, no luck getting it to drop. Only difference is I am a dunmer. I also have spent more points into elemental expert.. I am medium weaving and running entropy instead of Surge. I am running around 17k health 28k magicka give or take pvp buffs not including food buffage… Suffering on dps.
    Any idea why?

    Hey Deltia!

As always, I’m a loyal fan of your site, however, I am really hoping that par to your cleanup and consolidation efforts on the site will include ARCHIVING all the older 1.5 builds and leaving only the 2.0 builds linked to tags. It’s frustrating to have to sift through links that keep taking me back to the older builds, although they are great, they no longer apply, so if ARCHIVES were set up, you could actually keep them on a completely separate site to save data space and simply provide a LINK from your active website. Just a thought to help! Cheers, keto

Should I still be using Mage light as the buff for this build? It says it increases spell critical rating but decreases magicka. Is that because it’s not morphed or is that a nerf? And is there a difference between spell critical rating and spell critical %?

Quick question still trying to figure everything out, I’m on Xbox one and noticed if you toggle a buff then swap bars and you don’t have that buff slotted in the bar you swap to you lose the buff. So my question is about power surge. You say inner light, bound aegis, power surge then swap to bar one but bar one doesn’t have it. My apologies if the answer is obvious.

Power Surge is actually a “cast this once every 23 seconds and you’re good to go ability.

Unlike Inner Light and Bound Aegis it is not a toggle ability and therefore lasts 23 seconds from when you cast it.

hey deltia, I play on the Xbox and I noticed that when you have an ability on bar2 that isn’t on bar1, when you switch back to bar1 the buff is no longer present. I’m only a level 32 but I have all of the abilities shown here unlocked and morphed besides the mages guild ultimate.

on bar1 I currently have Unstable Clannfear (for tanking), Force Pulse, Inner Light, Bound Armor, Crystal Fragments, and Overload as my ult. If I remove Unstable Clannfear, Inner Light, and Bound Armor from bar1 and put them on bar2, use them on bar2, then switch back to bar 1, I no longer have a Clannfear, Inner Light, or Bound Armor buff.

the only way I can keep the buffs up when switching bars is if I have the buff on both bars. therefore, having Power Surge on Bar2 only is sort of pointless since when I switch back to Bar1, I no longer have the Power Surge buff.

Is this an issue because of my level, or is this intended behavior with bar switching? If it’s intended, what would you recommend in place of Power Surge on bar2 since I’ll have to use spell power potions in place of Power Surge.

    Thanks!

Currently I’m a v6 altmer rubbing a build as close to this as i can manage, i do feel slightly squishy, BUT everything melts. I may get hit a couple of times but i can survive that. My highest dps to date is roughly 11k. Granted its not in a boss or anything, just some mammoths. However mutt dad was running this build and told me his highest was upwards of 30k. Can’t wait to get to v14 and start seeing those numbers. Ps. I use ftc as well, that’s where i got my dps numbers from.

Great work man! I love your work. Ive been following it since I first started playing a few weeks ago (newbie here). I do have a question- on your first screenshot you show 52 point pnts to Magic and 10 to health, but on a few screenshots lower you show 40 magic and 22 health. Which is the best point allocation for this build?

So I really like this build but I see you said it’s not good at low levels. I am level 15 and I want to work towards this build while still dealing good damage. I realized doing the undaunted dungeon that my dps isn’t very good currently. I am using crystal shard (unmorphed but can morph) mage’s light, and lightning form. I also use summon familiar just to get that skill up and having another target helps when soloing. Should I get liquid lightning? My first 2 race (altmer) perks and light armor perks are maxed for my level. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

At 15 don’t worry too much about your dps. Focus on unlocking key spells you’ll need down the road. I highly recommend putting a point in the destro staff tree and start leveling up to get force pulse and elemental ring* (aoe god). Liquid lighting would be good to level up. Try force pulse, frags, liquid lightning, mage wrath, and mage light to level skills and still do decent dps :)! (IMHO) good luck!!

I started a new Sorc and started out at lvl 3, going off this build and at lvl 29 I am a power house. The content my level I can 2 to 3 shot and stuff a level or 2 above mine is still easy. Not to mention using the Rest staff until 15 worked great as I started doing the group delves then wanting to mainly see the DPS in action there but our healer ended up bailing and I healed through the first 6 dungeons with 4 points in Resto Staff. I can’t wait to see how it works at Vet ranks…this is a monster damage build and I want to thank you for your hard work.
    Though I am on PS4 I can’t see a DPS meter:(

i love this build and use it on my ps4 as you mentioned bar swapping is a pain on the ps4 so what i did instead is replaced bound aegis on your main attack bar with power surge because once bound aegis is active it stays active power surge dont, this way i dont have to worry about keeping buff up by trying to bar swap on the ps4 so much easier 🙂

Great build! I love using this! I switched one thing around in the power overload bar while in ultimate I removed the harness magicka with power surge so I can deal even more damage while in ultimate. I rarely find it necessary to even use my main bubble while in vet city of ash and I’m a vampire with this build. Going to get rid of vampire soon to make it easier on my healer

This build has been incredible for leveling, however I reached a point where I’d like some advice.

I hit 33 and finally had enough points to get the majority of the right spells on both bars and replace my summoned pet, which obviously makes solo questing a bit more challenging at times but by no way impossible. I saw Deltias previous suggestion about replacing Liquid Lightning with Hardened Ward for survivability, but my question is should I be using my summoned pet while leveling or no?

Currently levelling an altmer sort, level 25, using crushing shock as main dps, crystal frags proc, just got impulse for are. Using bound agis and have been using double pets. Is it more efficient dps without pets and adding in inner light and, something else until I get power surge or will the pets be worth keeping around for damage and utility?

Deltia, I like your build if I am in a group. However, I am V7 and solo a lot. What changes would you make to your build for PvE around V5-9? Also, I noticed your build didn’t take the newly buffed up pets into account ,which is being further buffed in the new imperial city upcoming patch. Would you use recommend pets when either soloing or grouping? If so, what new build would you use?
Finally, you recommend to use potions. Do you use them on trash mobs too or just on boss fights?
A good discussion of what you would do while leveling solo would be a great help. Thanks

I’ve been running this build for awhile and love it, with a few alterations until I can get the Skoria/Adroitness pieces & Light rings. I run this in both PVE and PVP. PVE I’ve done the Trials and can solo 50% of Upper CL without issue. PVP I feel like a god, especially in Overload where I hit for about 12k per light attack.

    Gear:
    – 4 Martial Knowledge
    – 2x Magnus Destro Staff (Nirnhoned)
    – 3 Magnus (Light)
    – 2 Healer (Neck/Ring)
    – 1 Spell Dmg Ring

    Bar One (PVE)/(**PVP**)
    Inner Light
    Bound Aegis
Liquid Lightning (**PVP Swap Daedric Minefield**)
    Crystal Fragments
    Force Pulse
Shooting Star (Only use this on big pulls grouped up)

    Bar Two (PVE)/(**PVP**):
    Inner Light
    Bound Aegis
    Power Surge
    Hardened Ward
Elemental Ring (**PVP Swap Ball of Lightning**)
    Overload

    Bar Three (Overload):
    Inner Light
    Bound Aegis
    Power Surge
    Hardened Ward
    Mage’s Wrath
^ This bar pretty much melts everything in both PVE and PVP, including myself if DKs reflect.

Without food I’m sitting around 36k Magicka, 2k spell power, and only 9k health; but who needs health when you have Hardened Ward amiright?!

    I have a few thoughts/questions.
    1. With the new monster head dropping in Imperial City. Can you imagine what that spell power will do for Overload light attacks?! I wonder if the 50% skill cost increase also applies to diminishing Ultimate?

    2. My Overload Bar in PVP might need an adjustment. I am considering taking out Mage’s Wrath to use something with a knock down or some kind of CC. I find myself wishing for a Frag proc that isn’t there in some instances when I’m on this bar in Cyrodil. If I started the fight with CC there isn’t many that would survive 3 quick light attacks.

    3. I am considering running DW on my second bar for the increase in spell power. That way when I switch into Overload it’s basing off of my DW spell power and not my Bar One Destro. In this event I would swap Elemental Ring for Velocious Curse.

    4. Is the Skoria 2 piece really worth it? I was considering running Torug’s for the consistency of the spell power. Possibly in (Medium/Heavy) for the 6% Undaunted Passive.

Thanks for all the work you put into this and what you’ve done for the community.

Hey Deltia – Using the build and loving it, thanks so much! I have some questions about the passives and it looks like others did as well (tried to read through so as not to duplicate Q&A). You have points allocated to Medium & Heavy armor – why is this when the build wears all light? Also, there are other passive points allocated to skills & abilities that aren’t active, was this because of build testing or is there some intent / some unseen benefit that comes with these? It’s been throwing me off and I have about 50 skill points not used at the moment and want to know how to allocate them. Maybe a “pimp my build” would be in order? 🙂

Hey Deltia, I know this is more of an endgame build, but I am trying to base my current build off of it, I am V3. I’m running the 5 pc Seducers, and 3 pc Magnus sets. This puts me at around 20k magic and 12k health without food, 940 spell crit at 52% w/ magelight active. I think I should probably respec my attributes to get around 15k health since I don’t really want to change my armor for awhile. I just want to make sure that I should be trying to hit that 3/2 magic/health ratio as I am leveling. Thanks, love your builds!

I’m not sure what ‘updated build’ you are referring to, however becoming a vampire has both advantages and disadvantages. The passives for the Vampire skill line include Increase Magic and Stam recovery by 10%, take 33% less damage when below 50% health. These two passives only work when a vampire skill is slotted on your bar. The update that came out yesterday (Xbox) / today (PS) reduced the disadvantages of Vampirism so you now only take 25% more fire damage (rather than 40%), and I believe your health regens slower, but I’m not sure how much. Before the update Deltia said that he isn’t a vampire in this build because the cons outweigh the pros, however the update may have changed this.

Dont get your hopes up Deltia deleted this sorc build 4 months ago and replaced with a stamina sorc… he had to delete it because he already had characters so he deleted the one he least cared about…. dont believe me? Go watch his lightning tornado video… thats character he replaced it with….. “Why wouldnt deltia tell us?” You ask? Because he still wants the web traffic to his website… he doesnt care that you are wasting your time trying to attain a dps rate that is no longer possible with this build…. look at the top this was from a few updates ago and almost every ability has changed. SO IF YOUR LOOKING FOR AN UPDATE DONT GET YOUR HOPES UP BECAUSE DELTIA ISNT ADDING ONE ANYTIME SOON. Think about it he had 8 different characters and chose the build you and I like to delete. He think magicka sorc sucks so bad that it wasnt worth keeping a VR14 sorc.

**WARNING OUTDATED BUILD: NOT AS ADVERTISED DPS IN THE VIDEO IS NO LONGER ACHIEVABLE WITH THIS SET UP**

Would this be your favorite build for long range dps? I’m looking for a build that stays in the back and shoots for high damage in high level PVE group content. I’m not coordinated enough for playing the tank or healer role.

The trouble with this build or any magic Sroc build is power surge. Sroc’s just don’t have any good self heals. Take Crit surge over power surge and the heals are better but you hit like a wet noodle! The new DLC killed my Crit build. With this build I found that in Sole PVE that without hardened ward on my back bar you just die a lot. Nobody wants to play a toggle master! If Deltia did get rid of his magic Sroc I don’t blame him as I’v given up on mine for now! My hope is that in the new DLC coming in Nov. we get some much needed love but I have not seen anything in the patch notes to make me think so!

Been playing this build for a while now and im Vr16 with 21k heath and 30k magicka

Yes i run hardend ward on my back bar , sometimes run a restro with healing springs , sometimes run harness magicka also

Running 7 light with 2 adroitness and 2 cyrodiils light , its pretty awesome farming and questing

If your not having fun you should probly just choose another build

I absolutely love this build. I switched some things around. Put Hardened ward on my main bar, switching it with liquid lightning. Making survivability a little bit better. I’ve been combining Shooting Star with Liquid Lightning, plus Force pulse and procs when they happen To help max my DPS while shooting star is up. I ALWAYS keep hardened ward up. Rarely does anything get through and if it does, I just throw up a potion and pop the ward up again. Also have been using this build for PvP. Gotta say it seems like it does the job well enough. Nice build Deltia. Keep it up man!

Hey Deltia. Okay, so from what I have been hearing is that Divines is more effective on 3-4 armor pieces than on all 7. That the buff is small from divines overall so it’s better to put infused on the big pieces like chest , legs, and head to really max out the enchantments instead. Was just curious as to your thoughts on it?

I’ve heard both arguments and honestly I don’t know the math behind it. I’ve switched to all divines and like it for PvE.

since mounds stones got buffed in 1.7, the benefit from all 7 in divines is greater than the small benefit you would get from infused vs divines on the 3 large pieces, imo. For the math on this, you can visit:
      http://tamrielfoundry.com/topic/pts-2-1-2-sorcerer-arithmagic/

look at: page 1, post #1 FUNDAMENTAL EQUATIONS, then the section entitled ‘Divines vs Infused’

I have a v16 high elf sorc and would like to run maelstrom for the achievements obviously. What apart from engine guardian and molag Kena would you use. Also the weapons I don’t have the maelstrom weapons so what would you use otherwise.

    I thought

    5 julianous/ twice born star
    2 torug pact
And normal fire staff and resto staff

    All light divines.

I have 370 champion points to spend also if that helps with the build.

I would mainly only use this build for pve also so skill wouldn’t need to be single target, just need good execution skills.

    Hi,

I have recently started playing this game. My first toon is vet 11 now. I tried the frag out build but switched to the ignition build. Only pve so far but I plan to go pvp soon.
I use the volatile familiar instead of bound aegis. And usually destructive reach instead of force pulse for more cc.
I am trying to think of a way to make the ignition build useful for pvp. I thought maybe use a movement speed and spellcrit potion so you can ditch inner light for streak. And destructive reach instead of force pulse for more cc. And restraining prison and defensive rune on the third bar. But I have no idea wether that will work.
Anyway thx for a site that really covers a lot in a comprehensive way.

    Greetings

Hey, I’m using a this and another build (http://tamrielfoundry.com/topic/2-1-8-the-yolo-wizard-magicka-sorcerer-insane-burst-dps-pve-build/) as targets to work toward. I’m new to ESO and V3 right now, so I’m kinda fillin in the blanks as I gain skill points and gear. Both your 2.2 build here, and the Yolo 2.3 build have swords as the offset (he suggests Moondancer, you have Torug which he recommends if you don’t have the Moondancer yet.

QUESTION 1: Why are you both suggesting swords? Do you actually use them in the rotation?

Q2: What would be the rotation for this build? For single? For AoE?

Q3: Why is there Poison enchant on one of the swords?

Any chance for a Sorc update on this website for 2.3? I’ve seen your video suggestions, but it doesn’t show everything–easier on paper. Also, could you make recommendations for those of us V1-15? What morphs to take, what skills to push xp into first? Priorities? What gear are best substitutes for the top stuff at the end while we work towards it?

Any help on this would be great. Know ur super busy with the new one (grats!), but whenever convenient would be awesome! Thanks for all you do!!!

As far as replacement armor I would suggest always having 5 Julianos. One set I sued from vet 5-10 was the soulshine set. It was 2 heavy armor and 3 jewelry pieces you can find pretty cheap. Put that with 5 Julianos was very very effective and might be end game worthy if it dropped at higher levels. I also wore a random light monster helm I had drop at V2.

Regarding attribute points. I am currently a level 24 High Elf Sorcerer, trying to work my way up to this build. I have put all my attribute points into Magicka so far. You said to keep it simple and do all health, why is that? What do you recommend me to do.

    Great build though!

Just keep it in magicka if it’s working. Once you get shields, health really doesn’t matter.

With the huge nerf to shield stacks, will this build even be viable still?

I don’t think its a nerf to shield stack; it definitely changes how OFTEN you apply, but it isn’t a nerf. If anything, won’t one of the shields from before that was only blocking magicka now blocking physical attacks as well?

But this build is based on no regen and the cost of reapplying this every six seconds so I don’t get killed seems prohibitive. I will be spending over 3 times the magika and time casting these which means my potential DPS is cut too.

I also think the change to Harness Magika could be bad because it will absorb both but only return Magika for Spell damage so unless the game is smart enough o prioritize physical damage to my hardened ward, I may lose potential magika

It will be a DPS loss, It’s instant cast, but has a slow animation. Even if you cut the animation, thats 1-2 seconds–seconds you could have been casting a nuke. You might considering running Boundless Storm instead. At Vet 13 it wards 5k AND 5k spell resist for 23 secs AND does passive shock dmg to nearby enemies AND gives 30%+ movement speed. All in one slot?? Yes Please! In comparison, Hardened Ward gives me 8k phys for shorter time at about the same mana cost, plus still have to use another slot for Harness, and spend that added mana, and use that cast time. Boundless Storm is instant cast too, with an instant animation. Adding the DPS increase from time saved, more mana-on-hand, and passive shock dmg balances out any recast you have to do to make up for the smaller shields. Boundless lasts longer, and stuff falls faster. It’s also great for AoE. On the down side, if you’re a pet guy, the shields do not extend to your pet, the way Hardened did. Still, is worth considering. I’m using only it in group and solo dungeon runs, and it works nicely.

As for a leveling guide: Just go to Maelstrom and grind. You won’t have to fight for space and the leveling is awesome.

I like the idea of switching shield for Boundless Storm and it would also allow switching Champion Points to Hardy instead of Bastion.

I’m almost exclusively PVE, so I don’t think the effect will be that much on me because of group play. However, it will affect PVP a lot.

Heya, I am trying to set up my “Third Bar” . So I hit overload, the bar switches, then I hit “K” to go to skills, and place the ones I want on the “Third Bar” but soon as I exit K, the bart reverts to what it was before ?

    Ideas ?

Is this build still up to date with recent game updates? I’m a very new player (lvl 30’s) so I know next to nothing about all this, but this character looks fun to play with. Someone also suggested me to follow “yolo wizard”.

Any idea what I should do regarding a good sorcerer Breton dps build?

Also it’s just for pve for now though eventually I’ll be doing pvp once I get to the higher veteran ranks (if those still exist by then… Heared they’re gonna go?)

Yolo Wizard (if I’m corect) does extremely high DPS and plays for one of the best guilds in the world. It’d def be worth checking out, and yes the build is up to date minus elemental blockade. For leveling, do your best to get crit surge right away then it’s easy mode.

I really don’t understand the thought behind 6 second wards. Also why does Empowered Ward get 10 seconds? I feel like I’m being pushed into either a Stam sorc or a pet build. I’ve been Magika sorc as my only character and feel that if dark brotherhood releases as is, I will be cancelling my eso plus account. I am only vet 13 but have tons of time into the game. I don’t have time to make another character just because eso decided mine should no longer be viable.

Fire staves are much easier to weave and (I think) the only staff that has a medium weave.

Justin – You might be surprised that you do have time to level up another character – once DB drops, you only need to hit level 50 to be completely on par with your VR13 (and actually, possibly higher than the VR13 now, but equal to the VR13 then, depending on Champion points). It should only take 8-10 hours to level someone up to max level at that point.

Deltia, I have never played a sorcerer or ESO before and im really starting to enjoy mine. I love that its electricity based as Im not a fan of the fire based stuff. Just a query though, is there tips on how to start off this build when say you are around level 5? Thats currently where I am, should I start investing in Magicka first or do both health and magicka alternating every level?

Also is it better to run with full light gear in the lower levels or perhaps to mix and match?

    Hey Deltia,
Big Fan, keep up the good work.
It seems now with DB release Hardened Ward and Harvest Magicka has the duration halved. I’ve been finding now the pure magicka drain this is causing is making the build less sustainable. I’ve had to move Hardened Ward to the main bar just to ease up on having to swap so often.
    What do you think?

Harness Magicka now absorbs all damage as well returns magicka when hit with any spell like effects. So use harness magicka if you are trying for more sustain.

Can I also suggest that on this and all other builds on the site that when you make changes to make current, that the page be marked at the top with a notation: Last Updated MM/DD/YYYY? This would be so helpful and save a lot of the confusions. Thanks!

hi, i am glad u updated this build just when i started to play a magic sorc 🙂 i have 3 questions though, i play on ps4: 1st) i wonder how i can see how much ulti “units” i have cause u say u save up 1k and then u spend all until u have 170 “units” and then u cast meteor. i wonder wether u can only see it because u use an addon? is there a way for console players to see it? 2nd) at the end of the video u just spammed ur spells (i am especially curious about the dots and the mage wrath) but in a previous video u said that one should always animation cancel a light attack and then use a spell, is that information outdated? (cause that video is from a year ago) 3rd) in ur “dmg report” addon, CFRAG and mage wrath have lower dps (especially mage rage 1k? :O or will it be combined with mage rage explosions 4k to add up at roughly 5k?) then force pulse, even though CFRAG had a whoping 80% crit rate, is it realy worth to use the spells over force pulse? do i read the addon in a wrong way? or r there “hidden” benefits to those 2 spells, like desintegrate proc chance with mage wrath and life reg with CFRAG? and an unrelated question, does force pulse proc desintegrate? cause it is a weapon skill but also a spell.

On ps4? I have no idea. It greatly depends on the situation, but generally weaving is best unless you have already proc’d your weapon enchants. I don’t understand your last question.

Hey there! While I really love this build, and I would like to give it a shot, I do have a question… What is the viability of using it in PVP? I know you have the Frag-Out pvp build for magic sorcs, but I was not sure which build was more viable in the current meta. If I wanted a magic sorc for pvp, which would you recommend?

I do 5 body Julianos/Head and Shoulders Kena/Jewelry Elegant with a Elegant Fire Staff (sharpened). Back bar is dual wield Elegant sharpened daggers so that Julianos/Kena/Elegant are all proc’ing from overloads. I end up with 50k+ on every light attack when SPC/Combat Prayer/Ele Drain/Warhorn all going.

I just took to changing my character around after an all around respec and so far, things seem to be working amazing. I do not know what else I can do, but even with the primary skill bar and no secondary so far, things are going good. I guess my only thing would be health– but that can be remedied super easy with a provision.
