The Phantom Mutation was added to Fisch in version 1.57 with the Leviathan update. It is a unique mutation that is a hard requirement for some quests inside the Cultist Lair, such as the Restless One quest. All About the Fisch Phantom Mutation
How To Obtain
The only way to get the Phantom mutation on a fish is by using the Eidolon Rod. It is a Stage 9 Rod that has a 35% chance to apply the mutation to any fish caught with it. However, it is a large piece of equipment, which can be a bit hard to get for beginners. You can buy the Eidolon Rod for C$5 million inside a trapdoor at the Sanctum sublocation of the Cultist Lair. Follow these steps to get it:
- Enter the Cultist Lair through the Terrapin Hideaway after taking on Traveler’s Quest.
- Once inside, you need to open the Cultist Lair Door 1 and Cultist Lair Door 2.
- Cross the Hall of Whispers and Passage of Oaths to reach the door to the Sanctum, which requires the Dreamer’s Amulet to open.
- In all sublocations of the Cultist Lair, you will find 15 Obelisks.
- Turn all of them, and a trapdoor will open in the Sanctum.
- Under the trapdoor, you can buy the Eidolon Rod for C$5,000,000.
The Eidolon Rod’s passive has a 35% chance to give the Phantom Mutation to any fish that you catch. It has very good Lure Speed, but it lacks a good Luck stat and has 0% resilience. Use enchantments such as Mystical or Divine to counter it.

Phantom Mutation Appearance and Value Modifiers
Fish that get the Phantom Mutation take on a very dark look, and black particles emanate from their body. But the best part is that the mutated catch gets an 11x value modifier. This makes the Phantom Mutation very lucrative, even toward the late game.
