Non-Vet PvP & Leveling

FYI, the video goes over everything covered in the written in much greater detail with examples of how to use it in combat.  If you’re looking for a specific piece of information, please check the video and the table of contents in the description to fast forward to relevant parts.  I spent a lot of time on the video and it serves a learning tool rather than text.

Burning Butcher WITH Maelstrom Weapons

Skills

Burning Butcher Skills

Dual Wield (Daggers) – Damage dealing bar

  • Burning Breath (morph of Fiery Breath | Ardent Flame skill line) – Armor debuff and a great 10 second damage over time (DoT).  Keep this up, do a medium attack (slightly hold down attack) than cast the next ability.
    • If you require range for a certain boss or situation, swap this out for Flying Dagger in the Dual Wield skill line (28 meter range).
  • Unstable Flame (morph of Searing Strike | Ardent Flame skill line) – Our massive damage dealing ability that gets progressively stronger.  Trick to this is NOT recasting until the DoT has expired completely.
  • Flames of Oblivion (morph of Inferno | Ardent Flame skill line) – The first of our important buffs, Major Savagery or weapon critical.  Basically keep this toggled on and don’t press it.
  • Rapid Strikes (morph of Flurry | Dual Wield skill line) – This is our spammable attack that’s a channel which procs our Valkyn Skoria and hits very hard.  If your DoTs are up, spam this sucker (make sure to medium weave after).
  • Steel Tornado (morph of Whirlwind | Dual Wield skill line) – If the fighter requires AoE or multiple targets, don’t feel ashamed for smashing this button 10 times, it works.
  • [Ultimate] Flawless Dawnbreaker (morph of Dawnbreaker | Fighters Guild skill line) – 8% weapon damage and a low cost ultimate if we run out of resources for Battle Roar, must have for stamina builds.

Two Handed (Sword) – Buffs and execution phase (25% health or lower)

  • Razor Caltrops (morph of Caltrops | Alliance War Assault skill line) – A huge DoT AoE ability that last 30 seconds.  I open up with this ability and do not recast it as it’s expensive.
    • If you don’t have access to this PvP ability, use the Earthen Heart skill Eruption.
  • Rally (morph of Momentum | Two-Handed skill line) – Major Brutality or 20% weapon power, a self heal and a must have for almost any stamina ability.
  • Flames of Oblivion (morph of Inferno | Ardent Flame skill line) – Same as above, leave this on.
  • Igneous Weapons (morph of Molten Weapons | Earthen Heart skill line) – I love casting this ability once all my buffs are up and opening with a fully charged heavy attack.  With the right passives, this gives our party a 5% weapon damage increase as well.
  • Executioner (morph of Reverse Slash | Two-Handed skill line) – Our spammable single target execution ability (only use when bosses at or below 25% health).
  • [Ultimate] Standard of Might (morph of Dragonknight Standard | Ardent Flame skill line) – Still the juggernaut of ultimates, more damage, less damage taken this still melts everything.

Important Passives

Butcher Passives

  • World, Undaunted, Undaunted Mettle – This gives us a major boost to max stamina and health with two points.  You can level by complete Dungeon Achievements though it takes awhile.
  • Class, Earthen Heart, Battle Roar – The reason I STILL love Dragonknights, the massive flood of resources it produces keeps us sustained.
  • Class, Earthen Heart, Mountain’s Blessing – Gives us ultimate and 5% weapon damage or minor brutality.  Try to use Igneous Weapons combined with a monster heavy attack for sustained and more weapon damage.
  • Class, Earthen Heart, Helping Hands – Another amazing stamina DK tool, gives us 5% stamina for casting an Earthen Heart ability.  Run out of resources? Spam cast Igneous Weapons or an ultimate.
  • Weapon, Dual Wield, Twin Blade and Blunt – Gives us a massive boost to weapon critical for using Daggers with Precise trait.  Why? Because NPCs do not have critical resistance so stack up on it!
  • Crafting, Alchemy, Medicinal Use – This allows us to combine Rally with a VR15 potion of Weapon Damage for nearly 1 and 1/2 minutes without recasting our Major Brutality ability.

Gear

Burning Butcher Gear Chart Burning Butcher Gear PictureOption 1 – If you have Maelstrom Weapons

Option 2 – If you don’t have Maelstrom Weapons

  • Hunding’s Rage – 6 trait craftable set that is the standard for stamina builds.  Can be found AD Faction Reaper’s March Broken Arch, DC Bangkorai Wether’s Cleft, and EP The Rift Trollslayer Gully
  • Night Mother’s Gaze – One, it’s a decent 2 piece set, two its a great 4 piece set IF you can’t use Valkyn Skoria (5 Hunding’s 4 Night Mothers).  Can be found AD Reaper’s March Old Town Cavern, DC Bangkorai Silaseli Ruins and EPThe Rift Eldbjorg’s Hideaway
  • Valkyn Skoria – Helm found in City of Ash drop from the last boss (higher chance on Hardmode allegedly) and shoulder through Undaunted Pledges.  Lots of DoTs, massive AoE and carnage = a fun DoT build.
  • Agility – Found from treasure vaults in Imperial City.  It’s top of the line, so if you don’t have this you can always go with Shadow Walkers for jewelry or buy robust non set from Fighters Guild.

Misc

  • WW/Vamp – You know me….love Vampire for PvP and don’t like WW that much and I don’t think it fits the build.  If you only plan on playing  this build, stay all natural.
  • Mundus Stone – Warrior for maximum damage or Serpent for sustained.
  • Armor – 5 medium, 1 heavy and 1 light if you lack 10% racial bonus for maximum stats.  If you’re running into sustained issues, all medium.
  • Food – Go with bi-stat health and stamina at max level.
  • Race – “Can X race work with Y class.”  Yes, but in game with no soft caps, you’re hurting yourself if you do not go with maximum stat builds e.g. for stamina Redguard, Imperial, or Orc (weapon damage).  I’m a Dunmer and still do good damage, but a Breton? Probably not.

Bloody Butcher

Update Six Version

Build Video

Character Sheet Bloody Butcher

The basic idea behind this build is making something easy to understand, fun but deadly.  You won’t have a complex series of rotations cool downs and spells.  Just rambo in apply some damage over time effects and spam attack to wreck havoc.  This is primarily for DPS characters that want to compete in dungeons, trials and also want something a little more tanky than a typical melee build.

The build has great damage, feels sturdy and isn’t complex.  It sacrifices range at the expense of a powerful execute finisher.  Additionally, it’s made for end-game players or those close to reach Veteran Rank 14.  If you’re feeling lack luster DPS or squishy in update six, try this DPS build out, it works great.

Skills

I’m going to spend less time writing, so I can focus on explaining each ability in the video.  I highly recommend watching the video for actual demonstration.

Bar One – Dual Wield (Primary Bar can do both AoE or single target)

  • Burning Breath
  • Unstable Flame
  • Igneous Weapons
  • Rapid Strikes
  • Steel Tornado
  • Flawless Dawnbreaker [Ultimate]

The idea here is to fire up Igneous Weapons to get the minor weapon damage via Mountain’s Blessing passive, slam a weapon power potions for major savagery and brutality giving you 10% weapon critical and 25% weapon power for 40 seconds (with Medicinal Use alchemy passive).  As you close the distance, apply Burning Breath, reducing armor and damage over time (Dot) the target for 10 seconds.  Get into melee range and apply another DoT with Engulfing Flame while using medium attack weave in between. A medium weave is simply holding down the left mouse for .5 seconds so it registers as a heavy attack.  Now do 2-3 Rapid Strikes, rinse and repeat.

In multiple mob situations, spam Steel Tornado after you apply the Burning Breath debuff.  Make sure to keep minor brutality with Igneous Weapons every 20 seconds.  Also use potions on cool down as this is the most important part of your DPS.  Only use Flawless ultimate in emergency situations for extra resource via Battle Roar passive.   Swap to bar two as the boss reach 25% health for an ultimate and finisher and it’s that simple.

Bar Two – Two Handed (or bow for range) used for buffs and finisher

  • Critical Rush
  • Razor Caltrops
  • Green Dragon Blood
  • Rally
  • Executioner
  • Corrosive Armor [Ultimate]

The reason for two hander is the finisher via Executioner.  You sacrifice range for a big time damage dealer on bosses.  If you’re in range, pop your Corrosive Armor for 11 seconds of 100% armor penetration and making you nearly unkillable.  Do a normal medium weave in between Executioner abilities.  Use Green Dragon Blood for stamina regeneration or a self heal.  If you’re out of magic, pop Rally for extra healing.  Throw down Caltrops on a long boss fight or AoE situation for massive damage over time.

The damage is very simple because you’re only using three abilities with single target and two with area damage.  You can sustain your stamina via Igneous Weapons and Green Dragon Blood.  When things get rough or during finisher, pop Corrosive for protection.  The build shines because it’s simple and you can run your major buffs via potions rather than skills.  Keeping it simple and easy to execute.  Let me show you the gear setup so you can understand how this works.

Gear

Blood Butcher Gear Chart

Bloody Butcher Gear Picture

  • Hunding’s Rage – A six trait craft-able set which can easily be obtained.  This is still one of the best sets in the game making it easy for everyone to access.  You can also go with something more exotic like Vicious Ophidian.
  • Ravager – This can be obtain in PvP only though it’s bind on equip.  You can buy, sell or trade this gear making it possible for anyone to access.  Without soft caps, the extra damage proc for melee attacks makes this build nearly hit 4,000 weapon power!  With a good mix of critical, health and weapon damage I love the Ravager set.
  • Night Mother – Another simple crafted set that everyone can access. Now I added something to pump up max critical using daggers, however you could use swords if you think 70% critical is over kill 🙂

What makes the gear and skills work together is the one potion reduce time glyph on the necklace.  Essentially with potions, you have zero down time in between using the next one.  Making it a great substitute for using two abilities to give you two vital buffs; major brutality and savagery.

  • Priority Numbers 20,000 health > 20,000 stamina > 3000 buff weapon damage > 50%+ weapon critical
  • Mundus – The Warrior for added weapon power.
  • Attributes – Depends…..I went all stamina since I have plenty of health 62 stamina.
  • Racial – I’m playing a Nord though I’d go with Redguard or Imperial if I could reroll for this build.
  • Food – Bi-stat food when in Pve and tri-stat for PvP.

Champion Points

The Champion Points doesn’t vary between the Blazing Harvester build minus the Warrior tree I went with the Lord for extra heavy armor.  Otherwise go Thief and the Ritual.  I spent about 20 hours grinding to reach the 90 CP mark which gives the 12% weapon bonus adding a lot to your damage.

I highly recommend watching the video because its much easier for me to explain and show than write it out.  Plus it saves me a ton of time so I probably slim down these guides like this in the future.  Or at least until I get some more updated.  I hope you enjoyed this one, it’s powerful and fun!

What makes you say mundus stone of weapon damage. I tried that and then I tried the weapon critical one. So my weapon critical is at 85% with vr14 gear. I switched it back and forth many times between that and weapon damage and i swear the extra weapon critical seems to be way more effective. Can you comment on this please?

So if I swap between PvE and PvP i don’t have to change. Shadow and Thief are probably better options for pure min/maxing, however.

Hey Deltia, couple of questions on pvp. I roll with a group and i am currently using a stam DK. They want me to run nados. Would 5pc Medium hundings still be the go to? Or would 5pc heavy hundings rage be the go to? I use corrosive plus molag kena proc when using steel nado and its NUTZ! On my other bar i have SnB.

So glad u updated this build. I’ve been playing my Orc butcher since March 2015. Just got vigor tonight. Everything else is the same except maelstrom weapons. Hopefully this helps me get through it. Can’t beat it on bet not even close yet. For pvp I switch it a little. I do evil hunter, precise strikes, dragon armor, vigor, and petrify. Back bar dragon blood, snipe, poison injection, dragon fire scale, and ingenious shield. Works pretty well. Just petrify and spam precise strikes. Any advice on this front would be much appreciated. Awesome build as usual.

Great build Deltia, I will definitely be using it for PvE 🙂
For people who don’t have enough alliance points to get the ravager set a great craftable set to use in the meantime is Night’s silence for weapons and 2 armor pieces. This will give you stamina and stamina recovery while using the two hander and an additional 648 crit while using dual wield. It is only a two trait set so acquiring the items is very easy.

If you do not have caltrops available what would you use as an alternative?

Would Valkyn Skoria helm / shoulders be a workable alternative, for those without access to the ravaged set?

I know these measures may detract from the efficiency of the build from a min/maxer perspective, but I hope to make it work with what I have while grinding dsa/trials.

Also, your efforts are appreciated. However when you’ve finished with the builds you’re already working on, I’d love to see a DK magicka DPS build. Though it may be the Dawn of the New Age of stamina builds, it would be great to have a choice, and see what could be done with magicka builds in 1.6.

Without Caltrops you can use Brawler as an AoE DoT and protection.

Skoria is probably better than Ravager though a lot of builds have this and people don’t have it.

Magicka DK is pretty sick and would be more damage, remember this is mainly a starting point and more tanky than a traditional DPS setup.

It’s time for a magicka Dragonknight build. Especially with the changes this update. I know the changes are not official but since you have been playing around on the PTS maybe you can have it all ready and then tweak it right after its official, and release the build.

For the people that can’t afford the potions, I would recommend putting evil hunter on your toolbar because it grants major savagery. Move igneous to the second toolbar and swap back and forth-possibly in place of caltrops.

The good thing about evil hunter is it makes savagery a passive. Is Flames of Oblivion still a toggle skill with no duration? If so, in 1.6 would it keep its application when using toolbar 1 if it is slotted on toolbar 2? I don’t have access to game right now so I can’t test.

Stunning Blog but this time I’m confused…

Bar One – Dual Wield (Primary Bar can do both AoE or single target)
    Burning Breath
    Engulfing Flame
Both Morphs of Fiery breath.. is this possible?

Video seems to show a Morph of Momentum which is a Two-Handed Skill not Dual-Wield

Tried this build at level 30, I know I didn’t have everything unlocked or the gear, and im sure that why it seemed super weak for me. But I can’t wait to try it at VR 14. But other than that im using your pre 1.6 butcher build with the greatsword as front bar and its working very well even at level 30! So I’ll stick to that until I feel like I’m ready to use this build. From a new player trying to learn how to make a viable character in this games deep customization, thanks man.

    1) Did you mean for the second dagger to be Night Mothers vs. Night Silence?

    2) How do you feel about Ashen Grip if I do not have Ravaging yet?

    3) Will you be utilizing the Chef or Blacksmithing costumes once they are available and to give it that “Butcher” look? I know I will!!

Ravager set comes in VR1, VR 10 or 11 (i think) and VR 14. The first 2 cost 30k and 36k AP aprox, 248k for the vr14. You can buy these from PvPers at a trade for 10ap to 1 gold. So for vr 14 if you had to buy it all 125k gold. For ravager jewellery it only comes in vr1 and vr14. AP is easy to save now and shouldnt take too long to earn – even for the high stuff. Or you could go farm mats for a day or so and just sell it then buy all the armor.

Oh, and if you mix and match a set ie vr 1 jewellery and vr14 armor, for the bonuses it takes an average of the pieces so you don’t get screwed and can actually upgrade one piece at a time and still make it worth it.

It’s hard to get the hang of. I press my 4 key to activate Rapid Strikes then immediately hold my left mouse. As soon as the ability goes through full animation, I left go registering a heavy attack. Just run around fighting mobs practicing for hours, that’s what I did.

That’s what I figured. I admittedly haven’t done a ton of practice with it. I think I am probably trying to cut it too close. I am guessing that making sure both hit is more important than clipping the final animation of RS. Thanks as always. I can’t wait for the NB build later today. Deltia, I watched the video and love your work, but I think I see a slight mistake you made with your Champion Points. You dropped 11 points into Heavy Armor Force which only works with 5 or more pieces of Heavy Armor worn, yet you’re only wearing 2 pieces of Heavy Armor.

Yeah that’s because I tank on this guy and probably should drop those 11 in the middle warrior tree.

Just to clarify I think what Tanaka is asking is aren’t you wasting the points in Heavy Armor Focus since it requires 5 pieces of heavy and you’re only wearing 2? So you aren’t really getting the bonus with those points. Where The Steed has Medium Armor Focus for your 5 pieces or medium armor.

Hey Deltia! Great work ad usually, ty for ur builds! I want to ask a question: did u try using two pieces of Valkyn Skorya and going with 4 daggers from hundings rage? U problably can get 1 more dot from rendering slashes (leaving steel tornado) so maybe its a DPS increase in single target situation.

It is a lot more damage, but I wanted to use something without it since a lot of people don’t have access to Skoria.

If you were to use 2 VS pieces, would you swap the Ravager jewelry for anything else? I guess you could still do 5 Hundings, 5 Ravager, and 2 VS while using daggers, but you would miss out on the fifth trait of Hundings when in execute mode.

    Deltia et al,
I want to talk 2H vs Dual. I know you started testing and were originally going with 2h based on your earlier video, obviously you found that Dual provides more DPS. I was curious how much more DPS you are noticing going this route. With my personal focus on PvP and dps on dungeons secondly, a primary build using wep crit pots can put you in a tough spot as you cant use tripots for healing. I like the idea of putting on burning breath and unstable flame for dot then transitioning to wrecking blow + executioner. only downside is unless i want to do a lot of wep swaping and reapplying flames of oblivion, I will have to have 2h on both bars. Any thoughts?

I have been working on the NB version of this. I am using all (4) daggers, as 2H really isn’t necessary. NB’s have class skills that are better Gap Closers and Finishers, and Rally can be replaced with potions. I finally got all the gear yesterday and had the smoothest Vet CoH run ever (with a NB healer).

Bar 1: Rapid Strikes, Rendering Slashes, Piercing Mark, Killers Blade, Merciless Resolve*, Flawless DB.

Bar 2: Steel Tornado, Refreshing Path, Power Extraction, Ambush, Siphoning Attacks*, Veil of Blades.

*Not totally sold on these 2 skills, might consider another DoT, Shield buff, or even Funnel Health for the heals. Siphoning does allow for endless Steel Tornado. Merciless Resolve is a nice damage buff, but I don’t seem to get off Assassin’s will with DW as often as with a bow.

I use Classic Stam pots (Stam, Power, Crit) on bar one, and Weapon Crit pots (Stam, Health, Crit) on bar two as power extraction gives Weapon power buff.

It’s missing a self heal w/o rally, but refreshing path and Pots seem to keep me alive. It is capable of 10K+ single target and 25-30K AoE DPS. It is also by far the least squishy NB I have ever played. Thanks for the gear setup, it is awesome!!!

I might be in error, but I think that was a mistake. I have only every seen a Ravaging Ring and Ravaging Band in Healthy. I am EP so I guess its possible that AD vendors carry different items, but I cannot verify that. Not a huge deal, just adjust your attributes accordingly to hit desired mark.

Hi, I’m really grateful for your build here! It looks fantastic. I just started ESO and would like to understand how to implement this build from the start. For example, what preliminary skill points do I need to put where in order to get to the levels that you specifically note above? In other words, I’d like kind of a basic build on up since I’m attempting to understand this at the ground level right now and I don’t have a lot of time at present to dig about and try to assemble these extra details. Even if you have a prior post to which you can direct me, that would be fantastic!

Well, the real key that I’m looking for right now (since I’m still quite new and I don’t have a lot of time to invest into understanding the skill and leveling buildout system quite yet) is to how leveling really works and therefore how to acquire the skills that you note. I guess I would like a very brief “beginners” version of this guide here for those of us flooding in after the free to play release… 🙂

Link for a good starting vid for your past ones? I’ve played WoW and GW2 a good bit in the past so I don’t think it would take a lot to get up to speed, but I’ve not had much time yet to dabble and am curious about how to really maximize whilst leveling as you note and really build up to a “bloody butcher” level. Also, I’m hoping that a Khajit can do well on this… Just love the cats!

Question: why would you use magicka based abilities when all your points are in Stamina? I understand Burning Breath because it reduces armor. But why unstable flames? Would you be better off with a stamina ability that cause bleed for the DOT or something?

Because Unstable Flames now scales off stamina and is used via stamina. If you click on the image it shows that.

That’s an amazing morph. I was thinking, “too bad it still costs magicka,” but, on second thought, it’s great to have a stamina based ability that costs magicka, because it’s basically converting magicka to stamina.

Great work as always Deltia! I been trying out a Stamina DK since 1.5 so when 1.6 and 2.0 came along I was one happy bunny!! I have been playing around with the build allot and so far my best setup is:

    2x Medium Skoria
5x Hundings (2 Daggers rest armour)
3x Draugh King Slayer (neck, gloves and feet)
2 x Ring of Two Fanged snake. (one is gold one purple both with weapon dmg)

    Using skills:

    1. BurningBreath
    2. Unstable flame
    3. Rapid Strikes
    4. Igneous
    5. Evil Hunter (for the crit!)
    Ulti. Flawless Dawnbreaker

    2nd bar:
    1. Rally. (For weapon dmg)
    2. Evil hunter (for crit)
    (rest do what you like)
    Ulti. Standard of might

    Stats are:
Stamina: 24K, Crit: 62% Weapon dmg 3724 (with Major Brutatlity). Just did Elden hollow and managed a new record of 24K on first boss, single target… but unlimited stamina! so not true, but still awesome!!!

Deffo recommend my variation for end game dps 🙂 showing those magica users how to dps 🙂

I need to lvl Alch, so then I could rely on pots and say have Molten Whip on the first bar for inc Ardent dmg… Work in progres!”!! 🙂

I have just started getting back into ESO again. By this I mean watching videos and coming up with my builds from videos. I was last year but once they delayed release for console I stopped looking into all the builds. Luckily I found your videos and they are great. I have some buddies that are using your builds for reference of what they want end game.
This build is exactly what I want. I love dual wield DPS. I played a marauder in SWTOR years ago and always duel wield in the other elder scrolls game. I have some questions about this build. I am on the fence of whether I want to be an Imperial or Dunmer with getting a little more tanky with the passive self heal or the added fire damage. I also thought about lycanthropy and vampire as well. You were talking about werewolf for PVE and vampire for PVP. Dunmer will lessen the fire damage incurred by the vampirism. Would it be viable to run vampire the whole time if I am a Dunmer or just go with werewolf for that free stamina? Would you be able to kind of talk about this situation and what your thoughts are on it please?
I was thinking about making him have alchemy for the potions but I also thought of making a crafting character as well. Are there restrictions to this or what are your suggestions?
I know this is an end game build but will you be making a lvling video of this end game build? I did see your lvling guides and stuff. Didn’t know if there are specific things that you would change to get this build end game.
I love your videos and they have made me excited about the game once again. I am so appreciative of all the time you have put into your videos and website. Keep it up man. Sorry about the lengthy message but I am trying to cram some of my questions in here without writing a book.

Well if you use your main for crafting you’ll have significantly less skill points. Especially if you want to play alternate roles like tank/dps. I have a leveling build for DKs on YouTube called laceration.

I’m sorry I wasn’t meaning that I was making my main a crafter. I was thinking an alt as a crafter. This way I can make my main and other acts have the most skill points possible.

Hey Deltia, i’m making a return to ESO and through google I found this website and started watching your stream, Amazing stuff! 🙂

I have a question; i’m a great fan of the DK class because i’ve always loved fire-based skills and they have great survivability. I was toying around with a stam build but Id really love to play a magicka based one. But left and right my friends and their aunts and aunts’ dogs keep telling me “No! don’t use magicka, it sucks in 1.6, go with stam”. Is this true? If I decide to go all the way magicka does this mean i’m severely crippling myself and won’t find groups for end-game? Personally i’d rather go with the build I find more fun. But I also like being competitive.

I understand you’re quite the DeeKay master so maybe you can give me a few tips to help me understand why exactly some people claim magicka based builds to suck in 1.6. thanks!

I like the build and play but I’m only a level 42 (Orc), returning after 9 months. I previously was stamina based 2H/1H but I’d like to try DW/2H. I never PVP and will mainly be questing. How would you suggest re-speccing and what split of Health / Stamina would you aim for after everything is considered.

Attributes aren’t really a concern of mine. I make sure I hit a certain health threshold than dump the rest into stamina.

I’m trying for an imperial DK With high DPS. I’m fairly new to the game so I see you went all stamina for the butcher….My question is: for someone just starting out (level 6) should I really put all points in stamina as I don’t have all the gear and buffs to make up my lagging health. Am I missing something? I’m not sure if folks are “creating” characters by re specking? How does one truly start out…from the beginning? Thanks

At level six you’re probably not going to have a “build” for some time. I’d just go into health until 20s than respec as the build progresses.

Deltia, great job with this build! Am using a similar setup modeled after what you’ve described and am having a blast! Way more fun than my previous magic-based setup. No more squishy! Well, not as squishy at least. 🙂 I need to start looking for some Ravager pieces next!

One thing I’m curious about though: how do you have the Concentration passive showing up in your stats? Isn’t that a light armor only passive?

Thanks for all of the detail you’ve provided with these builds! Am going to be trying out options from your Ignition sorc build, but for now am working on getting some unused skills leveled.

I notice milky asked this earlier, does anyone else find their buff timer for igneous doesn’t go up per heavy hit? Mine doesn’t appear to go up “one second per heavy hit” and just expires in X number of seconds regardless. The fiery-weapon-animation expires at the same time too.

Is there any way to confirm medium-weave hits are actually extending the igneous weapons timer? I’m super-new at EOS btw so sorry if I’ve missed something obvious.

Sorry not milky, Evanonian rather. And BzeeB mentioned it earlier too. I wouldn’t be too worried if it was just the addons not picking up the +1 second extends but the animation in the game itself seems to end at the same time.

How do you guys know you’re actually getting the +1 seconds to igneous at all? ??

I can get igneous weapons to extend now but only when I do a full heavy attack. 🙁 The buff timers from addons I’m using don’t register it but the flaming weapon animation does extend. Bit sad about the whole thing really.

Also makes me wonder if some other skill bonuses that you’d get from a heavy attack don’t get applied but the game unless it’s a full-length heavy…

Yeah, could partially be a lag issue for me???

Made a reddit post about it here too that people offered some really helpful responses to:
            http://www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/comments/34pdt3/medium_weaving_when_does_a_quick_heavy_attack/

People described latency issues when playing with others from far-flung countries (which would make sense given that I’m in NZ) – basically that holding LMB for longer is needed to score a legit heavy attack if you’re lagging. I’m also wondering whether FTC incorrectly reports heavy attacks for me because it figures out whether a heavy is a heavy just from what’s happening locally on my PC without actually engaging in what the server at the other end actually says is happening.

People have also suggested that the API used by addon programmers was nerfed a while back so addons now only use pre-set timers for buffs and don’t have access any messages (eg: extensions to duration) from in-game.

we all love your guides but i have 1 question that confuses me. I am not sure if that has been asked already cause i dont read books so pardon me if you answered it before. Sometimes, like in this build you are using 2 heavy armor pieces. But i cant find out why you are using Legs and Hands as Heavy Armor in this build. Don’t you have a higher armor difference if you are using Chest and Legs as heavy armor instead of hand and legs?

1: Is there any special reason for taking 1 Night Silence and 1 Night’s Mother dagger, wouldnt it be better to get the 2-set bonus?
2: The weapon enchant on your dagger #1 says: Power, is that the same as Glyph of Weapon Damage ? cause I cant find any Glyph of Power ingame.

Hey there, great guide as ever. I have a question about dragonknight builds. Iam only lvl 30 now and Ive been using the laceration or whatever it is 😀 Iam dunmer and I want to hear your thoughts about easiest build on dunmer dk for solo pve. I want the balance with effective and easy so I dont want it to be really hard but really effective or really easy but not effective at all. I know it is a difficult question but I hope you will find time for this 😀 I had no time experimenting with this so Iam going ask you :3 Thanks

Do you think I should aim for this build even thought I’m just level 21? I have read that for low levels is good to have 5 heavy armor and 2 Medium armor. What do you think would be some good pointers to do fine in low levels and then aim to the top. Thanks in advance.

    Hello Deltias,

First of all thank you very much for all that you have accomplished here 🙂
This trully keeps the game community alive and enhances it!

    I am 100% new to ESO and I am 100% lost 😀
I picked the Dragonknight class and picked Dunmer has a race.
I love dual wielding and meele stuff and smash everything in my way, and smash a little… I am a meele lover thats it.

But, I also like to manage a bow or something which I consider a very good option for PvP matches. I’ve played many games before and I always end up using a mix of meele and distance for PvP when I can. (guild wars 2 for example)

    So, my doubt is…
Shall I follow this build since level 1? (I am level 8 at the moment)
Do you advice me picking up other build and swap at the end?

I really want a good PvE vuild but honestly I love PvP and I will spend hours playing it.

What about the Dark Elf skills and taht stuff? Worth spending any points?

What’s up Deltia? Been using this build for a while.. I’m a Vet 8 DK.. Mainly wanting to focus on DW DPS for PVP. Sometimes I notice I’ll totaly wreck some people, but sometimes it leaves me feeling like “WTF happened” and it won’t look like I did anything.. I’m not sure, but I have noticed there’s a lot more people having success w/2H. Although I’m not totaly against going to 2H Id much rather remain a DW/Bow.. For the type of build im looking for should I be focusing more on my Crit% of my weapon Damage to murder the most people lol… Thanks bro, look forward to your reply.

For pvp sustainability is more important than both. Swap hun dings for whitestrakes and pump up your stam recovery. Magicka dk is most likely a better option with dodge roll nerf. Just my opinion though.

I was using 5 ravager, 5 hundings and skoria. (2 axes or 2 handed or bow hundings so I keep 5 or 4 piece set bonus of
    Hundings.
What do you think is the new best in slot gear for stamina dps builds?

    Hey deltia, me again,

I have tried playing Dk as you recommended (using Bow and dw) for stamina build. I did so, but i cant score high dps.
Im using hunging rage 5 p(medium), bastion for health (2) till i get molag kena second p. so 7 medium.
    bars looks like this:
dw: rapid strikes, breath, tornado, gdb, whip. ulti f. leap
bow: venom arrow, stone fist/eruption, acid arrows, evil hunter, hardned armor ulti – flaveless downbreaker.

I score more dps with dw than bow, then im orianted bow as a single dps, and dw as aoe dmg.
    what should I change?
    Thanks

      1.why r u using whip as a stam dps
2.why stonefist/ eruption as stam dps? interrupt and snare isn’t dps’ job
3.why acid arrow if ur already using tornado for aoe?
      4. why isn’t evil hunter double bar?
      5. where’s ur major weapon power buff? do u use weapon power potion?

        Thanks kfro.
        Tuan:
Why acid, Cuz i dont have snipe yet:/ im using scatter shot in in replacement of acid.
Why whip? I have magicka unused so why no to drain it a bit for additional dmg.
For major brutality, im using flying blade. Switching with whip.
Evil hunter is just for dungeons mostly.
Eruption is great skill for small aoe dmg and opponents miss opportunity. Stone fist is a cc. Dont have any other with bow and dw. So im using this one to stun.

A very common way a lot of stam dks do their damage is from wrecking blow since each attack gets the empowered buff (20% dmg to next target). Try that instead of bow. Also use executioner for low health enemy burns and use rally for the heal and the major brutality buff (20% more weapon dmg). Then use a earthen heart ability to get the minor brutality buff (5% more weapon dmg), preferably molten weapons of a sort. Try that should provide better results. 🙂

Hey Deltia, when you click on the champion point graphic, it sends you to a blank champion point sim page. You can’t see what specific skill you put the points into within the constellation. You can only see the total for each constellation from the graphic.

Let me say I love the build. I had no idea about minor and major buffs til I watched your first video on this. I almost have this exact build at vet 16. I have the agility. I’m thinking about going with Molag Kena on helm. Someone told me yesterday that Valkyn Skoria got Nerfed and it sucks now is that true?

More importantly… How do you have all your attribute points into stamina and your health is so high? What am I missing? I have many atrribute points into health to get it to like 14,000 without food and just under 20,000 I think with vet 15 blue food. I’m an Orc which had max health and stamina I think. I’ve looked this over many times and I cannot figure it out. I’m on PS4. Is it different? Am I missing something here? I want to sink all my points into stamina. I have around 30,000 stamina and 20,000 health and I can’t figure it out???

I have been grinding hard to get this build I went with Neir’neth shoulders and helm and I like how it works I also swapped out flying blade for breath as most bosses seem immune to fire damage? Maybe I have that wrong took me about a month but I have the robust agility sets. I also wanted to understand your thoughts going all divine as the rumor is there is a hidden bonus going all divine! Final question how would you tweak this build for PVP? I love your work congrats on the new edition to the family and enjoy your first Christmas as a dad! I don’t think any boss is immune to fire damage that I know of. I’ve switched to all divines and it seems be producing a lot more damage with Thief mundus stone. For PvP tank I just run my laceration with Blackrose or Elfbane for more damage, tri pots and engine guardian. Thanks for your comment 🙂

Thanks Deltia… I also left you a small donation in appreciation of all the time you have saved me. I use Lui extended add on and when I hit many bosses I get the message “target is immune” when I use breath or other fire based special attacks. That is where I gleaned that information it is good to know that this is not the case as Lui does not provide the same overlay that the outdated ftc does maybe it is time I go back to wykydd and ftc or advanced ui! As always thanks for the help you have saved me enormous amounts of time doing what you do!

I had a quick question if it’s alright…. out of the DragonKnight DPS builds; you have a build ‘Burning Butcher’ for update 2.2 and ‘Bloody Butcher’ for update 6. – Which 1 out of these 2 is the later/latest build?

I made a redguard stam DK dps (used 2 handed and bow 5 – medium 2 heavy) and was pretty damn OP pre vet 15. groups of players & 1v1’s had about a 50/50 success rate (which i was happy with). I could solo resources from level 35 onwards
(played scourge campaign UE server got emperor at vet 10) –
I had about 220 champion points at the time.
the aim of the build initially was to be an annoying b**** who was hard to kill & dealt some serious damage.

then i started to enjoy playing her – and still do so this is why im sad. 🙁 because the seccond i hit vet 15 i died the second something looked at me 🙁 ive switched 2 handed to dual wield mainly for the speed of attacks, its helped a bit… but wondering if u could suggest a fix?

Which stamina build do you prefer, the brutal butcher or the specter in terms of most fun to play and the best overall? I want to max out the accounts but it’s so time consuming that I only want the best of the best.

My all time favorite combat style is stamina NB, and NB DPS will always be near the top. That being said, DK is an absolute blast for different reasons. If you like to play sneaky, NB, tanky, DK.

Your Non-Vet PvP & Leveling build is awesome. I never imagined I would have so much fun using a bow. In PVP wars the bow and especially the AOE skills are so much fun and I finally get loads of kills. Now all I need to do is level my bow skills. Thank you for the guides.

    @Deltia…
I am working on leveling my DK, and enjoying the new burning butcher stam build. Wondering about Leveling, should I switch out the back bar bow for the 2H until I get maelstrom weapons? Thinking about running 2H with the following set-up:
1: Extended Chains – Gap Closer (Can change if needed, find it easier against casters)
2: Igneous Shield (or Weapons) – Switch depending on Solo or Group Play
    3: Executioner – Execute
    4: Rally – Heal/Buff
5: Flames of Oblivion – To keep buff from bar 1
    U: Standard – Obvious Reasons

My bar 1 is identical to your DW Bar, and I don’t have access yet to Caltrops or Vigor for a back bar build. Also, with Heavy Weapons trait, should I go Axe 2H for the additional bleed, or Sword for 5% damage?

Here’s a link to my set-up I have currently (or am shooting for): http://www.esohead.com/calculator/skills#1.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

The brutal butcher 2.2.9 is awesome. And thnaks for the exact patch listing.
Having said that, try listening closely to the video’s audio–every time you speak, there is a metallic overtone/high frequency echo of some sort. And no, it’s not my headphones (I have a studio).

    Hey Deltia,

Long time follower of your guides & videos and still loving the content you push out to this day.

I’m a PS4 player and recently made a new Imperial stam DK following the efficient levelling guide, worked like a charm.

But what build can we use to do our veteran levelling (for DKs), and still do pledges etc properly? The guides here point either at sub veteran pvp or end game builds.

Thanks for the input, appreciate it!

    Hey Deltia,

I got a VR3 Imperial DK running you brutal butcher build.
I am questing at Al’Akir Desert and i am really struggeling.
I can hardly do a group of 3 enemies, i tried to solo a Dolmen and failed many many many times then i stopped trying.
I switched the Bow-Bar to 1H/Shield with Green Dragon Blood, Burning Breath, Unstable Flame, Ransack and Volatile Armor. It helped a bit but still i suck XD

I wear 5 Heavy 2 Medium all Stamina enchanted and all atribute points in stamina but i got no set items.

Is it possible that the set bonuses make such a big difference?
Can you give me a tip how to do better?
Would really appreciate it cause i really enjoy EsO again but if i keep dying that may change 🙁

    Hey again,

    Thx for your reply 🙂
I think i explained it a bit wrong maybe because my english isn’t that good 😀

I used 7 pieces medium (all stam) but i switched to 5 heavy 2 medium same time i switched out the bow bar cause i thought it may give me more survivability what it did but it’s still not enough and it lowered my dmg of course :/

    Are the sets much difference?
I can’t craft the set pieces at the moment cause i need to get more analyses first what i am working on.
Or do i expect too much from a v3 DK?

First of all, thanks for all the work you put into this. Great guides, great videos!

So this weekend I watch some videos and re-made my Nord Dragonknight, retiring him and switching to Dark Elf. However I think I was watching the wrong video because I had it in my head that I should go dual-wield to start, and add 2-H at 15.

But now I see the leveling guide says Bow & 2H. I’m only level 8 but I would still rather not re-roll again. I spent maybe 3 points in Dual Wield. Should I just write those off and go to bow starting now? Maybe Thieves Guild will come with a free re-spec!

Hello Deltia, i really enjoy your video about the Burning Butcher, and i was just wondering : on your secondary bar, the one with the arc, wouldn’t that be better to put the poisoned arrow, as “finisher”, for the extra damage under the 50%, and this instead of Flame of Oblivion ?
I mean Flame of Oblivion is here for the Weapon and Spel crit, but we only use the bow for one skill, so no need for crit, is it ?

Hey Delita! (Is your name a hat tip to FF Tactics?) First i’d like to give you much respect and appreciation for all the clearcut, detailed and helpful info ( and your not charging for your guides). I’m rolling an Imp DK toon, now lvl 9. I haven’t played ESO since I played the BETA like 2-3 years ago and I just got back into it this week, have full DLC and ESO plus. Im decently well versed in MMO’s from EQ, City of Heroes, WoW, and SWTORO. I’ve always loved playing PvE ( some PvP ) and love love support roles (Tank and Heals). I was following your DK tank build guide, but I noticed I’m comments later that build may be out of date? And that it mostly applies to endgame with lots of CP. I suppose you’d recommend the butcher stam DK to level instead? Is there a way to maybe roll a hybrid between the tank/butcher to lvl my sword n board and two-handed (one bar for each?)? Or should I just roll butcher til endgame and just respec to whatever then? (Sorry I don’t know when to shut-up) thank you!

      April 10, 2016 at 10:28 PM

Sorry a couple more questions and I’ll leave you alone….also ESO seems to play a bit different than other MMOs at endgame. Meaning that it doesn’t seem that a dedicated tank/heals are ass neccesary and it’s better to roll DPS with good survivability instead? Also the true endgame content seems to revolve around PvP more than the PvE (also a lot of good skills/passives seen to require skills in the alliance war tree) where PvP is unavoidable if you want to get the most out of a toon. Are these statements true or is it not quite the way I’m seeing it?
      Again Thank you!

ESO does have dedicated roles too. Basically PvP is unavoidable unfortunately due to the abilities you need to get. However, it only takes about a day (4 hours) of PvPing to get these skills.

Yep Zach one of the few to guess right.

Yeah I’m collecting gear now for a new DK Tank build based on gaining ultimate. It’ll take me a few more days to gather it but it’ll be different.

Leveling as magicka is SO much easier than stamina. You just don’t have any self healing early and it’s painful. I’d go magicka then switch to stamina later on.

He Deltia, I read something about divine not stacking over 20%. Divines would have diminishing returns for anything past 20%. So if you had +41% divines your actually only receiving about 27%… Some say to only put divines on 3 of the SMALL armor peices (Shoulders, Belt, Gloves and Boots are “Small”) due to their small enchantment bonus.
What do you know about this?

Divines traits on gear does not have diminishing returns. I recommend all divines because the benefit outweighs extra stats. For the Warrior, you get 213 Weapon Damage with 7 Legendary Divine Traits.

    He Deltia,

I have been using your Burning Butcher for a while now and since Vr16 I made few changes but I have never gotten close to your health and Stamina combination. My Stamina is around 34k with tri stat food but my health is only near 15k with food. I am using the following:

    Vr16 Dunmer Dragonknight

    64 points Stamina.
5 Hundings Rage Vr16 purple with purple Stam Glyphs and Divine trait
2 Night Mother Gaze (head and shoulder) Vr 16 purple with purple Stam Glyphs and Divine trait
Night Mother Gace 2H Maul Vr 16 yellow with purple Disease Glyph and Sharpened trait
Night Mother Gaze Bow Vr 16 yellow with purple Disease Glyph and Precise trait
2 Leki’s Focus Rings Vr16 purple robust with yellow Weapon Damage Glyph
1 Leki’s Focus Necklace Vr16 purple robust with yellow Weapon Damage Glyph

Bar 1: Critical Rush, Rally, Evil Hunter, Wrecking blow, Executioner, Take Flight. I swap out Executioner for Unstable Flame depending on the situation.
Bar 2: Razor Caltrops, Retreating Maneuver, Igneous Shield, Lethal Arrow, Resolving Vigor, Shooting Star. I swap our Razor Caltrops for Scorched Earth and Lethal Arrow for Bombard depending on the situation.

With purple Vr10 triple stat food and buffs I have around 4k dmg and almost 60% crit with 34k stamina but I am lacking with my 15k health.

Are you using Health glyphs on your armor instead of Stamina? I don’t know how you are able to hit that much Stamina combined with that much health and then the dmg and crit rating. Could you exactly show what you are using. I am just wondering what I am doing wrong….

And are you going to release a new Stam Dragon Knight Vr16 build soon?

Are you at 501 CP? That makes a difference, plus I have max Undaunted another 2% stats. And all yellow enchants does add up. Yes I’ll be doing a new stamina DK as they are utterly powerhouses even more now.

Not yet at 501 CP but that and yellow Stamina enchants does not have any influence on max health right. I do not have max undaunted yet but 2% stat increase will not increase my health to near 20k.
Ill be waiting for your new powerhouse. I can do dungeons just have to self heal a frigging lot or might change 3 glyphs to health but lose stam that way..
