This action-RPG game, developed using Unreal Engine 5, is based on the IP of Mabinogi Heroes. The story of Vindictus Defying Fate revolves around those who resist fate and create their own in a fantasy world. A major part of the game is combat, which will help you advance further. Countering your foes and laying them to dust is important, but strategy plays a crucial part. In this article, we will look at how to effectively engage in combat in Vindictus Defying Fate.

Combat Tips for Vindictus Defying Fate

Just Action

Just Action plays a crucial role in effectively staggering an enemy when they try to inflict damage on you. If you input a dodge or guard stance at the exact moment the monster attacks, you will successfully perform a counterattack. This will stagger the enemy, throwing them off balance and giving you time to inflict some damage of your own. There are two different ways to do this:

  • Just Guard: Successfully guarding at the moment of attack will leave the enemy vulnerable to your onslaught of attacks.
  • Just Evade: Evading the enemy’s attack will leave their defense open. Depending on their action, they will either have their weapon stuck in the ground or take time to recover from their attack phase.

Down System

A majority of the monsters come with a down gauge. This meter indicates how many attacks they can withstand before becoming vulnerable. Once their gauge reaches the maximum limit, they become defenseless and vulnerable to your attacks for a short duration. This is the best time to take advantage and inflict as much damage as you can. Compared to boss monsters, the normal and elite monsters will remain in this vulnerable state for a longer period. So, each attack on a boss counts.

Finishing Action

Interacting with a monster in this state will lead to a certain special effect. If timed correctly with the right attack, you will be able to inflict a special move that, through a sequence of actions, sends the enemy flying to the ground. You can execute this attack on both normal and boss monsters, with each version featuring a different animation.

Boss Monster Special Attacks

Boss monsters are the most terrifying beasts in the game. They are out to end your reign and halt your progress. Combat with them proves a bit trickier in comparison to normal monsters. These bosses can inflict damage that you cannot guard against or dodge. So, it is important to be cautious and time your attacks. Let us look at the two different types of warnings they display:

Unblockable Attacks

These are attacks that you cannot guard against. Such attacks are highlighted with a yellow light. Once you see the boss approaching with an attack and a yellow light glowing near their weapon, make sure not to guard. You can, however, try to dodge it by rolling to the side.

Unguardable and Unavoidable Attacks

These are the attacks you should be most afraid of. There is no escape. You can try to block, parry, guard, or dodge, but your efforts will prove futile. You will know such an attack is coming when a red light shines near the boss’s weapon. This red warning effect indicates that the boss is preparing a major attack, and there is no other option but to take it head-on.
