Where Winds Meet introduces an interesting mechanic called the Disguise System. This lets you become the master of disguise, which you can use on a variety of quests. With the right impersonation, you can easily infiltrate areas you otherwise can’t access normally. Additionally, this mechanic is required to complete missions given by Lady Wuyzn in Kaifeng.

However, disguising oneself as another person is easier said than done. There are NPCs that you can’t impersonate until you meet the required rank for the skill. This is why you need to be familiar with this system so you can use it efficiently.

That said, here is a guide on the Disguise system in Where Winds Meet.

You unlock the Disguise Skill after completing the Disguise: Veil of Love side quest in Where Winds Meet. You can start the quest by heading to the city of Kaifeng. Once there, check your map and head to the green book marker. It’s somewhere east of the city.

Alternatively, you can use the nearest fast travel waypoints in the area. Your destination is Wuyan’s Shop. Head inside and speak to Wuyan. On your first meetup, she will ask you where people get Trapped by the Heart or Trapped by the look when in love. This will kickstart your first disguise quest.

Complete Disguise Quest

Your goal is to impersonate Wuyan’s sister and break up with her beloved Qiao Sanlang. Apparently, her sister doesn’t have the heart to do it herself. So it’s now your responsibility to do it on her behalf. However, before anything else, you need to retrieve an item from Qiao Sanlang. To do this, enter Wind Sense and hover over the target NPC. Select the item you need.

For this quest, you will fail when doing this without a disguise. You then have to talk with Wuyan, and she will help you master the art of disguise. To start the transformation, you first need a portrait of the NPC you want to impersonate. Fortunately, there will be a quest marker you can follow for this. Simply head to the marker leading to Fang Wenxiu’s shop. You then have to draw a portrait of Wuyan’s sister.

Draw the Person You Need to Impersonate

To start drawing your target, get close to them but not too close. The game will tell you if you are too close or too far. Switch to drawing mode and follow the on-screen prompts to finish the setup. When you’re ready, aim at your target and select Start Painting. Once the painting is complete, choose Head to Disguise to finalize the drawing. Once you have the image, you need to make your way back to Wuyan.

Disguise Yourself

Interacting with Wuyan again with the painting will finally let you proceed to the disguise system in Where Winds Met. She will tell you that you are now ready for your impersonation mission. You’ll character model will then change to your target NPC.

Once you’re ready, head back to Qiao Sanlang. Use Wind Sense and ask him for the second time about the item you need to acquire. If you are disguised, you are guaranteed to convince him to give you the item. You will then have to tell him to forget about you.

After your interaction, check out the item in your inventory and use it. Follow the quest markers to complete the side quest.
