The Gathering of Heroes is one of the most crucial quests in the second chapter of Where Winds Meet. It continues right after New Guest in Kaifeng, and leads you to the treasure named the Gold-Making Vessel. It’s also one of the most memorable quests in the game, with some really cool setpieces, a short stealth segment, combat sequences, and more.
Here’s a comprehensive walkthrough on the Gathering of Heroes quest in Where Winds Meet.
How To Complete Gathering Of Heroes In Where Winds Meet
The Gathering of Heroes quest is divided into six parts:
- Meet Big Zhao and Little Fu (sneak into Velvet Shade)
- Enter the Revelry Hall
- The Ember of Gold’s proposal and the Gold-Making Vessel
- Chaos at the Revelry Hall
- The Prefect’s deal
- Meet the Know-it-all
Here’s a step-by-step breakdown of the Gathering of Heroes quest:
Meet Big Zhao And Little Fu (Sneak Into Velvet Shade)
At the start of the quest, you will need to make your way to the Temporal Pavilion, where you will meet Big Zhao and Little Fu. Following a small cutscene, Big Zhao will propose his plan to infiltrate the Revelry Hall. Essentially, Big Zhao plans to use a boat to make his way to the Revelry Hall and the Velvet Shade. After another transition cutscene, you will reach the Revelry Hall.
However, you cannot enter the Velvet Shade just yet. You will need a disguise to do so.
Enter The Revelry Hall
After arriving at the Revelry Hall, you will witness the Ember of Gold’s arrival. After a short while, Big Zhao will ask you to follow him to a secluded place with a chest full of clothes. You need to change your disguise here in order to enter the Velvet Shade without drawing too much attention. Before entering the Velvet Shade, you will be stopped by a disciple who will question you about Zhao’s covered face.
Here, you need to choose the Ringworm infection prompt to proceed safely to the Velvet Shade. After passing through the gate to the Velvet Shade, you will witness another cutscene.
The Ember Of Gold’s Proposal And The Gold-Making Vessel
Inside the Shade, Big Zhao tells a disciple that Big Feng sent both of you to meet the Ember of Gold. After that, another cutscene finally reveals the Ember of Gold’s treasure, the Gold-Making Vessel. The Ember of Gold proposes to give the vessel to the Great Song Dynasty to help with the empire’s financial woes. Furthermore, he also asks the gathered heroes to test the vessel.
After a short while, Lord Shi interrupts the gathering and reminds them that the vessel is a national treasure. And as such, it should only be examined by the court’s officials. He places his hand on the vessel, which results in a shower of gold coins.
Chaos At The Revelry Hall
After the cutscene, you will witness a chaotic brawl, during which the Dao Lord will seize the Gold-Making Vessel. This ultimately leads to a combat sequence where you need to defend the Gold-Making Vessel. The fight goes on for a short while before Big Zhao steps in to diffuse the tensions. Furthermore, shortly after this, the Prefect of Kaifeng will arrive.
The Prefect’s Deal
After arriving at the Velvet Shade, the Prefect demands to see the Gold-Making Vessel. However, unbeknownst to you, the vessel has been swapped with a chamber pot. As such, the Prefect accuses you of theft. Although Big Zhao vouches for you, the Prefect doesn’t believe your innocence. Instead, he offers you a choice: either find the real thief in seven days or die by consuming a Soulbreaker Pill.
You’re also given three choices: either to surrender, resist, or take the pill (and the offer). Regardless of your choice, you’re forced to take the Soulbreaker Pill.
Meet The Know-It-All
Next, you need to investigate for clues on the theft of the vessel. You start the investigation by eavesdropping on Big Zhao and the Prefect of Kaifeng. Your investigation leads you to a ruin where you will find a broken mask. After talking to Big Zhao about the mask, he will propose meeting with the “know-it-all of Kaifeng.” Next, you need to go to the Entertainment District to meet Master Pu.
Furthermore, after investigating the mask, Master Pu suggests finding the Ferryman in the Forsaken Quarter. After talking to the Ferryman, you will receive the ticket to enter the Nine Mortal Ways. This concludes the Gathering of Heroes quest in Where Winds Meet.
