Gardevoir ex Deck Guide and Deck List - Pokemon TCG

Gardevoir ex Deck Guide for Pokemon TCG

In Pokemon TCG, the Gardevoir ex Deck is based on the Gardevoir ex Pokemon card. This deck emphasizes Pokemon, and a variety of evolution cards to aid in your deck. Gardevoir ex deck aims to quickly fill your bench with Ralts, evolve them to Kirila and Gardevoir, and feed energy and damage. This can be a bit more complex than the likes of Charizard ex or Roaring Moon ex, but has many paths to victory.

We will go through a Gardevoir ex deck list, a guide on how to play it, and the crucial cards. Let’s first show you the deck list so you understand the premise behind the Pokemon TCG: Gardevoir ex Deck Guide.

Key Cards in Gardevoir ex

While Gardevoir ex is the centerpiece of the deck, you will need to use and understand Kirlia, Artazon, Iono, and Fog Crystal. So, here are the most important cards in the new Paradox Rift deck and how to use them.

Below are the most essential key cards in the Gardevoir ex Deck:

Gardevoir Ex

Gardevoir ex - Pokemon TCG

Gardevoir ex Features in Pokemon TCG:

  • Pokémon: ex
  • Evolves from: Kirlia
  • Type: Psychic
  • HP: 310
  • Ability: Psychic Embrace As often as you like during your turn, you may attach a Basic Psychic Energy card from your discard pile to 1 of your Psychic Pokémon. If you attached Energy to a Pokémon in this way, put 2 damage counters on that Pokémon. You can’t use this Ability on a Pokémon that would be Knocked Out.
  • Attack: Miracle Force (190 damage) This Pokemon recovers from all special conditions.
  • Pokémon ex rule: When your Pokémon ex is Knocked Out, your opponent takes 2 Prize cards.
  • Weakness ×2 Darkness
  • Resistance: -30 Fighting
  • Retreat Cost: 2 basic energy
  • Set: Scarlet & Violet 86/198 Double Rare

The main energy acceleration tool of the deck is Gardevoir ex.  This Stage 2 Pokemon has the unique ability Psychic Embrace, which allows you to attach as much psychic energy from your discard as you like.  However, each energy attached will cause the target to take 20 damage.  This is a powerful way to accelerate massive amounts of energy and free up options for discarding.

Typically, you want Gardevoir Ex to remain on your bench using Psychic Embrace. However, if evolved, early in the game this Pokemon can take out enemies with Miracle Force for 190 damage.  The downside is, that once this Pokemon is in the active spot, it will take two energies to retreat.  Consider evolving one bench Pokemon to Gardevoir ex specifically for energy acceleration.

Kirlia

Kirlia - Pokemon TCG

Kirlia Features in Pokemon TCG:

  • Pokémon: Stage 1
  • Evolves From: Ralts
  • Type: Psychic
  • HP: 80
  • Ability: Refinement You must discard a card from your hand in order to use this Ability. Once during your turn, you may draw 2 cards.
  • Attack: Slap 30 damage
  • Weakness ×2 Metal
  • Resistance: None
  • Retreat Cost: 2 basic energy
  • Set: Silver Tempest SWSH12 68/195

For drawing cards, Stage 1 Kirlia is your best option.  This version of Kirlia comes from Silver Tempest and is a powerful way to keep your hand full of cards.  Unlike Radiant Greninja, this version of Kirlia can discard any card to draw 2 cards.  Moreover, you can use the Refinement ability first, then evolve to Gardevoir ex and use Psychic Embrace both in the same turn. This combo allows you to discard energy or other cards freely to fill your hand.

Iono

Iono - Pokemon TCG

Iono Features in Pokemon TCG:

  • Trainer: Supporter
  • Each player shuffles their hand and puts it on the bottom of their deck. If either player puts any cards on the bottom of their deck in this way, each player draws a card for each of their remaining Prize cards.
  • Set: Paldea Evolved 185/193 Uncommon

When it comes to disrupting the opposition’s hand, Iono is a great Supporter Trainer to use.  Iono helps you draw cards if you are lacking a Kirlia, Ralts, or Radiant Greninja. However, its true strength comes when the opposition has fewer prize cards than you, or you need to disrupt their hand.  You can also use this when you need a fresh hand but don’t give the opposition more cards if possible.

Another good use of Iono is when the opposing players Ultra Balls.  Assuming this card is an evolution, they are likely to keep it in their hands.  An example would be Charizard EX on turn one.  Though your hand may be good, you can negate their Ultra Ball usage by using Iono and resetting their hand.

Fog Crystal

Fog Crystal - Pokemon TCG

Fog Crystal Features in Pokemon TCG:

  • Trainer: Item
  • Search your deck for a Psychic Energy card or a Basic Psychic Pokémon, reveal it, and put it into your hand. Then, shuffle your deck.
  • Set: Chilling Reign 140/198 Uncommon

The most critical element of the Gardevoir ex is loading your bench quickly with Ralts, then evolutions.  Fog Crystal helps locate basic Pokemon, including Radiant Greninja and Zacian V.  Moreover, this card has versatility, allowing you to select either a basic Psychic Pokemon or an energy.

You want to have Zacian V on your bench if possible.  You can then accelerate energy to this card with Gardevoir ex Psychic Embrace.  Once loaded with energy, this card does damage based on how much energy is attached.  Essentially, it gives you the potential for a large knockout, early or mid-game. If you don’t like Fog Crystal, consider the Battle VIP Pass as a good alternative.

Artazon

Artazon - Pokemon TCG

Artazon Features in Pokemon TCG:

  • Trainer: Stadium
  • Once during each player’s turn, that player may search their deck for a Basic Pokémon that doesn’t have a Rule Box and put it onto their Bench. Then, that player shuffles their deck. (Pokémon ex, Pokémon V, etc. have Rule Boxes.)
  • Set: Paldea Evolved171/193 Uncommon

Considering getting basic Pokemon essential to this deck, the Artazon stadium card is a must-have.  This allows you to quickly find and bring out Ralts and or copies.  You want to have a variety of cards, like Gardevoir ex and Kilia as well. This way you can have drawing power alongside energy acceleration.  Additional options for this card are PokeStop.  Moreover, look out for Path to the Peak.  This card will shut down the deck, and that’s why we suggest 4 stadiums so you can knock out that card if played.

How to Play Gardevoir ex

Your main goal is to quickly fill up your bench with Ralts basic Psychic Pokemon. You then want to obtain Stage 1 Kirlia and Stage 2 Gardevoir ex via Ultra Ball or through drawing cards. From this position, you evolve one Ralts into Kirila and another into Gardevoir ex. With this combination, you can discard cards to draw and put energy from the discard pile on a Pokemon. This gives you a powerful way to accelerate energy by discarding energy intentionally.

From here, your next goal is to bench Zacian V. Zacian V does more damage based on the energy attached. You should start loading it up for bigger knockouts later in the game. Keep the majority of your Gardevoir and Kirlia on the bench for ability usage vs. damage. Next, use Mimikyu when facing a constant barrage of Ex or V Pokemon. This will shut them down and force a Boss’s Orders, Escape Rope, etc. This strategy will buy you time to fill out your bench.

When your bench is filled out, start working on knocking out targets with Gardevoir (non-ex). The benefit of using the basic non-ex cards is, that they only take 1 prize card if knocked out. This way, you can load them up with energy via Gardevoir ex ability, then attack without fear of losing two or three prize cards. Put in Gardevoir Ex when you need 190 damage, and quickly retreat or Switch Cart to put back on the bench. While a complex strategy, getting a bench, and evolutions is your priority.
