Baldur’s Gate 3 features a massive RPG world for players to explore, and there is plenty of treasure to collect. There are many basic chests spread all across the map. However, some of them require a bit more effort to open and redeem. Selune’s Gilded Chest in the Owlbear Nest is sealed with powerful magic, meaning you will have to put in some effort if you want the valuable loot stored inside.
In this article, we will break down what you need to do to unlock the Selune’s Gilded Chest in the Owlbear Nest in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Unlock Selune’s Gilded Chest in Baldur’s Gate 3
Since the chest is locked with magic, you cannot use your lockpick to unlock Selune’s Gilded Chest. To unlock the chest, you need to make your way to the statue opposite to where the chest is located. You can then quicksave and walk further behind the statue. Here, you will be able to find a Selunite Prayer Sheet. To pick this sheet up, all of your party members will have to pass a passive Perception check. If any of your members fail this check, you can reload your quick save to try again.
Once everyone succeeds in the Perception check, you can collect the Selunite Prayer Sheet. You can then head back to the chest. Now, you can open your inventory and read the Prayer Sheet by examining it. However, do not use Shadowheart as Shar and Selune are rivals. This disables Shadowheart, a follower of Shar, from accessing the chest. You can use any other character and read the sheet in front of the statue to unlock Selune’s Gilded Chest.
After opening the chest, you will have to convince Selune to allow you to take the contents of the Chest. This requires Intimadation, Persuasion, or Insight. While you can still acquire the items from the chest upon failing, Selune will disapprove of you taking the contents. Looting the chest will grant you:
- Idol of Selune
- Selunite Rite
- Moondrop Amulet
Other Methods to Unlock Selune’s Gilded Chest
You can unlock Selune’s Gilded Chest in Baldur’s Gate 3 through other means as well. This includes breaking the chest open with brute force. However, you should not use fire to break open the chest. This is because fire can damage the contents within the chest. You can also have a character learn the Knock spell and use that to unlock the chest. Finally, if you have a Selune-following Cleric in your party, the chest will open right in front of them without any trouble.
