Throne and Liberty is the newest MMORPG from NCSOFT that released for all platforms on Oct 1, 2024. As with traditional MMOs, Throne and Liberty has a massive amount of character and skill customization. This allows for a wide variety of playstyles and the ability to adjust your skills based off your desired output. Skill Specializations is one of these systems and below we give you all the information about them and how to use them.

What are Skill Specializations in Throne and Liberty

Skill Specializations is a system in Throne and Liberty that allows you to adjust skills and how they function to optimize your build to its highest potential. These Skill Specializations can buff range, damage, crowd control, add debuff, or even change how a skill works entirely.

What are Skill Specializations - Throne and Liberty

Skill Specialization will unlock once your character reaches level 25. Once you have unlocked Skill Specializations, you will start earning Skill Specialization Points. These points are used to unlock different aspects of a skill that can buff or adjust how a skill functions. For example, some specializations increase range or the damage, some switch a fire-based skill to lightning, and some change a skill to allow area-of-effect damage.

What are the effects of the Skill Specialization System in Throne and Liberty?

Every skill specialization for each weapon skill in Throne and Liberty is unique, and finding the best ones to use for your build will take careful consideration and reading of the tooltips. Some skill specializations can synergize really well with the effect of another skill, so that if you use them in the right combination you will get extra damage or an extra effect. Consequently, this may effect your skill rotation, so be mindful of this and skill cooldowns.

Additionally, skill specializations can even synergize across different weapons, if you’re paying close attention. For example, the Dagger skill Inject Venom normal applies a poison debuff to your enemy. However, unlocking a skill specialization for it can change the effect to lightning damage and can place the Weaken debuff on the enemy. This synergizes well with other skills from the Staff weapon, which use elemental effects and lightning spells, as well.

How to Use the Skill Specialization Menu in Throne and Liberty

You can easily open up your Skill Specialization menu at anytime in Throne and Liberty by pressing the ‘K’ key. You will see two tabs in the upper left-hand corner, one for Weapon Skills and the other for Skill Specialization. Although the tab names may seem confusing, the Skill Specialization is actually where you can make adjustments to the effects of your weapon skills.

Furthermore, within the Skill Specialization tab, on the left-hand side of the screen you can choose from any weapon you have used, and not just those you currently have equipped.

How to Unlock Skill Specializations

Once you reach level 25, you will unlock Skill Specializations and start earning Specialization Points to use the upgrade system. This system allows for unrivaled amounts of customizations and adjustments for your skills.

0nce inside the menu, you will see your list of skills and upon selecting one, multiple adjustments that you can unlock. The amount of specializations varies per skill as well as the cost and what they can change. In order to reset your spent Skill Specialization points select the icon next to your total Specialization Points.

Quick Fire


  • Gale (7) – On hit, applied Gale for 6s to the target. Explodes on 10th stack, inflicting 150% + 30 damage to enemies within a 3m radius area.
  • Min Chain Fire (10) – The minimum attack count changes to 4 stacks
  • Damage (5) – Damage increases by 20%, and Cooldown increases by 3s. The damage is amplified by 30% against other players.
  • Cooldown (5) – On a critical hit, the Cooldown decreases by 10%

Nimble Leap


  • Whirlpool (7) – Creates a 3m radius of Whirlpool Area for 3 seconds. While in Whirlpool status, Move Speed increases by 20%, and add 1 more stack when Whirlpool is applied.
  • Consecutive Use (5) – Can charge up to 2 times.
  • Cooldown Resets (10) – Quick Fire cooldown resets when used.
  • Immune (5) – Become immune to Stun, Collision, Bind, and Sleep for 0.5 seconds upon use.

Mortal Mark


  • Chain Effects (5) – If the target with Mark is defeated, Mortal Mark gets transferred to every enemy within 5m of the target. The Mark transfers up to 2 times, and transferred Mark doesn’t accumulate damage.
  • Detonation Mark (7) – Change to Charge to Detonation Mark. Its Bonus Damage is removed, and accumulated damage increases by 40%.
  • Stamina Stagnation (5) – Marked target’s Stamina Regen decreases by 100%.

Recoil Shot


  • Gale (5) – On hit, applies 2 Gale stacks for 6s to the target. Explodes on 10th stack, inflicting 150% + 30 damage to enemies within 3m radius.
  • Wave Shot (5) – Change to Wave Shot when Push reaches 3 stacks. If Wave Shot is activated, consumes all Repulsive Force stacks to deal 400% of Base Damage + 12 damage and applies Collision: Push with an 90% chance.
  • Off-Hand Weapon Attack (5) – Recoil Shot Off-Hand Weapon Attack Chance increases by 30%.

Multi-Shot


  • Rapid Shot (5) – Changes to Rapid Shot skill. Upon the change, Cooldown decreases by 6s. Collision and Move Speed reduction are removed.
  • Collision Shot (5) – Changes to Collision Shot. Cooldown Increases by 9s. Attack range decreases to 30 degrees, and the range of Collision: Push greatly increases.

Selfless Diffusion


  • Removes CC (7) – Removes Bind, Move Speed Reduction effect on you, as well as Stun and Sleep that other players applied. Stun and Sleep caused by environment or monsters cannot be removed.
  • Health Concentration Recovery (5) – Recovers 100% of damage received for the first 1s. For 1s, you can pass through other targets, and Mobility skill’s distance increases by 25%, Move Speed increases by 30%, Melee, Ranged and Magic Evasion increases by 300.
  • Aggression (3) – Aggression generated decreases by 30% for 6s.

Mother Nature’s Protest


  • Gale Arrow (7) – Changes to Activate/Deactivate format. Can activate Gale Attribute.

Merciless Barrage


  • Annihilation Barrage Shot (10) – Change to Annihilation Barrage Shot. Attack every enemy within a 6m radius without Casting Time.
  • Wild Barrage (5) – Change to Wild Barrage. Attack every enemy within a 30-degree cone shaped area.

Wind Snatcher

Weak Point Shot


  • Expand Conditions (7) – Weak Point Shot activates upon hitting a target affected by Stun, Bind, Sleep or Collision.
  • Cooldown (5) – Cooldown decreases by 20%.

Dagger Skill Specializations

Reusing the Skill within 9s will trigger a stabbing attack with both hands, where each stab inflicts 110% + 4 damage, then dealing an additional 240% + 9 damage. Applied Weaken: Thunderclouds to every target within a 3m radium of the target.
    • Thunderclouds lasts for 6s, decreases Melee, Ranged, and Magic Endurance by 6 per stack. Stacks up to 20 times.
  • Resource Cost (3) – Mana Cost decreased by 25%
  • Cooldown (5) – Cooldown decreased by 3s.

Brutal Incision


  • Thunderclouds Bombing (7) – Deals 180% of Base Damage + 37 damage, and removes the target’s Thunderclouds effect. The damage is amplified by 15% against monsters. When the target’s remaining Health is 50% or less, Critical Hit Chance increases by 600. If the target is affected by Weaken: Thunderclouds, they take 36% + 7 Bonus Damage and the damage is boosted by 100% per stack. Critical Damage increases by 20%.
  • Damage (5) – Damage dealt to a Poisoned target increases by 15%.
  • Cooldown (7) – Attacking a target with 20 Thunderclouds stacks decreases the Cooldown by 30%.

Vampiric Strike


  • Additional Hit (7) – Additionally deals damage equal to 39% of Damage + 2.
  • Boost Effects (5) – Increases Vampiric draining by 15%.

Umbral Spirit


  • Thunder Spirit (7) – Deals 35% of Base Damage + 4 Bonus Damage to the target if your attack was a Melee Critical Hit for 6s. If the target is affected by Wet or Thunderclouds, inflict 28% of Base Damage + 3 to 2 random enemies within a 5m radius of the target.
  • Damage (5) – Additional damage increases by 30% for Poison attacks.
  • Duration (5) – Duration increased by 1.5s.

Knife Throwing


  • Lightning Throw (7) – Throws 5 daggers to the designated direction up to 4.8 times the normal Attack Range. Each dagger deals 60% of Base damage. Decreases Ranged, Melee, and Magic Endurance by 10. If the target has Wet or Thunderclouds, a random enemy within a 5m radius will receive the same damage.
  • Cooldown (3) – Cooldown decreased by 3s.

Camouflage Cloak


  • Immune to CC (7) – When using the skill, immunity against Weaken, Stun, Petrification, Sleep, Silence, Terror, Bind, and Collision is added for 3s. Any already applied CC is not removed.
  • Cooldown (3) – Cooldown decreased by 10%.
  • Duration (5) – Duration increases by 2s.

Fatal Stigma


  • Area Damage (5) – Deals the same damage to targets within a 3m radius from the target.
  • Cooldown Resets (3) – If the target dies while Branded, the skill Cooldown resets. Even if the target dies from Fatal Stigma, Cooldown resets.

  • Resistance (3) – Increases All CC Resistances by 200 while using the Skill.

  • Bonus Damage (3) – Deals bonus damage equal to 18.9% of Base Damage + 6 to the Bound target.

Willbreaker


  • Damage Area Change (5) – Deals 100% of Base Damage to all enemies within a 3m radius and applies Weaken that decreases Melee, Ranged, and Magic Defense by 600 for 6s.
  • Evasion (5) – Upon hit, the target’s Magic, Melee, and Ranged decreased by 300.
  • Aggression (3) – On hit, maxes out target Aggression.

  • Charging Slash (5) – Wrath Attack. Rushes to the designated target, dealing damage equal to 280% of Base Damage + 74.   • Effects Chance (7) – The Stun Chance is increased by 15%

Blood Devotion


  • Devoted Sanctuary (5) – Takes 40% of the damage intended for the party member within a 15m radius area for 6s. Only 100% of damage taken applied.

  • Damage (5) – Attacking a target with Gale status that you applied will consume a Gale stack, inflicting additional damage per stack, which is equal to 25% of Base Damage + 12.
  • Collision (5) – Attacking while Whirlpool is active has a 80% chance to apply Collision: Push. If the target is already affected by a Collision effect, deals 450% of Base Damage + 182 damage to an enemy within 5m radius.
  • Cooldown (7) – Attacking the target with Target stacks consumes 1 Target stack, and the remaining Cooldown decreases by 6% per stack.

Ensnaring Arrow


  • Cooldown Resets (5) – Killing a target that’s at least 10m away from you has a 35% chance to reset the Ensnaring Arrow cooldown.
  • Effect Duration (5) – Attacking the target with Target stacks that you applied consumes 1 Target stack, increasing the durations of Bind and Oppress by 0.2s.
  • Hit Rate (5) – Skill Hit Rate increases by 20%.

Decisive Sniping


  • Collection Time (5) – The max collecting time increases, and Max Damage increases by an additional 33%.
  • Damage (7) – Boost damage against enemies with Stun, Sleep, Bind, Collision, or Oppress by 25%.
  • Collection Time (3) – While affected by Whirlpool, maximum collection status increases by 20%.

Strafing


  • Gale (5) – On hit, applies 2 Gale stacks for 6 seconds to the target. Explodes on 10th stack, inflicting 150% + 45 damage to enemies within a 3m radius area.
  • Able to Move (5) – Moves 4m in the designated direction and attacks on the first use.
  • Consecutive Use (10) – Increases additional use count to 2.

Nature’s Blessing


  • Vitality (7) – While Nature’s Blessing and Healing Touch are active on a friendly target, the target continuously heal 130% of Base Damage + 30 per sec, Increases Health Regen by 100, and then additionally boosts it 50.
  • Cooldown (5) -Cooldown decreases by 3s when Weaken is removed.
  • Whirlpool (3) – Creates a 5m radius of Whirlpool area on the current location for 6s. While in Whirlpool status, Move Speed increases by 20%, and adds 1 additional stack when Whirlpool is applied.

Brutal Arrow


  • Gale Area (5) – Creates a Gale area which inflicts damage on the drop location for 5s. Applied Gale for 6s to the target upon attacks. Explodes on 10th stack, inflicting 150% + 45 damage to enemies within the 3m radius area.
  • Range (5) – Attack range increases by 2m.

Arrow Vortex


  • Tornado (10) – Creates a 4m radius Tornado that moves to the designated direction. The Gale deals 100% of Base Damage + 15 to enemies in range, and applied Gale for 6s, which causes Collision: Push with a 70% chance to float targets in the air for 2s. You can attack the enemy multiple times while in the area, but the Collision Effect does not stack. The Gale cannot climb steep hills.
  • Whirlpool (5) – Creates a 8m radius of Whirlpool area on the current location for 6s when throwing a projectile. While in Whirlpool status, Move Speed increases by 20%, and adds 1 additional stack when Whirlpool is applied.

Healing Touch


  • Duration (3) – Applying Flash Wave to a party member with Healing Touch that you applied increases Healing Touch duration by 6s.
  • Additional Health Recovery (7) – When the effect ends, recovers Health by 100% of Base Damage + 10 per stack.
  • Resource Cost (7) – Healing Touch’s Mana Cost decreases by 30%.

Deadly Marker


  • Target (5) – Applied an additional Marker against a target with Deadly Marker.
  • Hit (5) – Party members who attack enemies with Deadly Marker gain additional Accuracy by 150.

Purifying Touch


  • Additional Removal (5) – Has a 50% chance to remove another debuff.
  • Cooldown (5) – Cooldown decreases by 30%.
  • Healing Touch (5) – Applies 1 Healing Touch to the target upon removal.

Flash Arrow


  • Flash Wave (10) – The skill effect is enhanced based on the collection time. Throw a large arrow to the designated direction to deal 360% of Base Damage + 310 to 720% + 620 to every enemy within the range. Allies within the area receives a healing over time that is equal to 48% of Base Damage + 42 to 96% + 84 for 6s.
  • Range (7) – Flash Arrow range increases by 2m. Flash Wave width increase by 4m.
  • Blind (5) – An attack has a 80% chance to apply Weaken, which decreases Accuracy 300 for 6s.
  • Effect Duration (5) – Flash Arrow’s Stun duration increases by 1s. Flash Wave’s continuous recovery duration increases by 3s.

  • Limit Break (10) – Resets the cooldown of the recently used skill. This is only available when a resettable skill exists, and it is not affected by Skill cooldown stat and Skill cooldown reduction.(Non Applicable Skills – Immortal Pride, Devasting Smash, Frost Smokescreen, Judgement Lightning, Strafing, and Arrow Vortex)
    • Using one of the following skills within 5s since the Cooldown reset, the effect is enhanced onces.
      • Decisive Sniping – The damage increases proportional to the charging time: 150% of Base Damage to 450% per second for 3s.
      • Flash Wave – The damage and continuous healing increase by 20%.
      • Healing Touch – After the effect is applied, heals 115% of Base Damage + 125 per Healing Touch stack. Also, the remaining cooldown time of Limit Break decreases by 10s.
      • Purifying Touch – Removes every debuff from a target. After the removal, the remaining cooldown time of Limit Break decreases by 10s.
  • Cooldown (7) – Cooldown decreases by 15s.

  • Range (5): Applies the same damage to a 3m radius from the target.
  • Projectile Speed (3) – Projective speed increases by 200%.
  • Instant Activation (5) – The Casting Time becomes removed.

Inferno Wave


  • Frenzied Lightning Wave (7) – A Lightning Skill that deals 269% + 62 damage to all enemies within a 3m radius area from the target. If the target is Wet or has Frost applied by you, the damage transfers to other enemies within 5m radius area once.
  • Cooldown (3) – Cooldown decreases by 3s.
  • Consecutive Use (5) – Can use up to 2 times with a 50% chance.
  • Burning (3) – If burning is applied through Inferno Wave, 3 more Burning stacks are added.

Frost Smokescreen


  • Burning Smokescreen (5) – A Fire skill that creates a 4m wide zone that lasts for 5s and teleports you 8m in the desired direction. Applies Weaken, decreasing Move Speed by 14%, to enemies in range. Applies Weaken: Burning every second. Can be used up to 2 times.
  • Use the Designated Location (5) – Cast time is added, and changes to use the skill on the spot instead of teleporting.
  • Bonus Damage (3) – Deals an additional damage equal to 50% of Base Damage per second to the area.

Chain Lightning


  • Chain Thunder (10) – Creates a 3m radius zone that lasts for 3s. Deals damage to every enemy within the area 48% of Base Damage + 3 per sec. The damage is amplified by 40% against monsters.
  • Guaranteed Damage Transfer (5) – Using Chain Lightning on an enemy not affected by Wet or Frost status also transfers the damage.
  • Chain Damage (3) – The Chain Lightning damage is not mitigated upon transfer.

Inner Peace


  • Thunder Blessing (5) – Creates a 5m radius zone where lightning hits 5 times per second. Deals 60% of Base Damage to random enemies within range.
  • Immune to CC (3) – Instead of using Inner Peace, become immune to the following effects when they are applied: Stun, Petrification, Bind, Silence, or Sleep.

  • Ice Spear Bombardment (3) – An Ice Skill that hurls 8 Ice Spears, and each spear deals damage equal to 70% of Base Damage + 7 with an 80% chance to Weaken the target, which decreases Move Speed by 51% for 3s. Frost is applied.
  • Bind (5) – When Weaken which decreases Move Speed is applied, it instead Binds the target.
  • Damage (5) – Damage boosts by 40%.

Icebound Tomb


  • Remove Freeze (3) – If the target is affected by Petrification: Freeze, use skill one more time to remove Freeze.

High Focus


  • Expand Targets (7) – The effect decreases, and the target changes to all party members in range.
  • Base Damage Boost (5) – Increases Max Damage by 45. If Expand Targets is activated, Max Damage increases by 15.
  • Victorious Energy (5) – Magic, Melee, and Range Hit increases by 250. Also, Magic, Melee, and Ranged Evasion increases by 250 for 12s.

Judgment Lightning


  • Guaranteed Consecutive Use (5) – Cast Time is added, and Judgement Lightning can be used without any casting time.

Weakens the target with a 70% chance to decrease Magic, Melee, and Ranged Hit by 250 for 6s. Shield Strike’s Melee Heavy Attack Chance increases by 20 per 1% of Shield Block Chance. On counterattacking with Counter Barrier, Shield Strike cooldown decrease by 1.3s. The target’s Aggression greatly increases.
  • Aggression (3) – The Damaged target’s aggression greatly increases.
  • Critical Hit (5) – When Weaken is applied to a target, has a 70% chance to apply a Critical Hit decrease of 250 for 6s.

Counter Barrier


  • Concentrated Barrier (7) – For 6s, on evading an attack, using Shield Block, or blocking with a Defense Skill within 1.35 times the Attack Range (4.5 times for Magic and Ranged) performs a counterattack that deals damage equal to 250% of Damage Reduction to the attacker. The counterattack damage is not affected by Critical Hit and Heavy Attack Chance. When hit, store received damage up to 100% of Max Health, and when reused within 6s, inflict 15% of stored damage + 200% of base damage to all enemies within Attack Range, and the effect is removed. For 3s after the effect is removed, Shield Block Chance increases by 13%.
  • Cooldown (5) – Upon a successful counterattack, Shield Strike cooldown decreases by 0.5s.
  • Additional Damage Boost (5) – While Counter Barrier lasts, the Base Damage increases by 5%.

Strategic Rush


  • Range (5) – Width of Strategic Rush increased by 150%.
  • Effects Target (3) – Strategic Rush can now target up to 8 targets.

Magic, Melee, and Ranged Heavy Attack Chance increase by 30 for 2s. The targets’ aggression greatly increases.
