1) Armin Arlert (Attack on Titan)
Armin is the fifteenth commander of the Survey Corps. He is also a childhood friend of Eren Yeager and Mikasa Ackerman, making him one of the two deuteragonists of the series. His appearance and his personality reflect him to be weak. Where he lacks in raw strength, he makes it up by being intelligent and good at making battle strategies, making him one of humanity’s most valuable assets.
He will never stop to think for a second before putting himself in a dangerous situation to protect others. Armin constantly faces his fears despite his anxiety and self-doubt. Also, he uses his emotional intelligence to connect with other members and inspire them, recognizing the importance of hope and choosing his words wisely.
The best example of Armin being courageous was during the Battle of Shiganshina, where he risked his life to give Eren an opening to go ahead and defeat the Colossal Titan. This act of bravery and his strong loyalty to fight for humanity were more than enough to cover up for the lack of physical strength.
2) Happy (Fairy Tail)
Happy is a member of the Fairy Tail guild, wherein he is shown to be with Natsu’s team. Despite his small build, Happy is extremely loyal to his teammates and has knowledge about the world of magic. He has been with Natsu since his birth and is his closest companion.
Most of the time he finds himself in a difficult situation where he has to fight, yet Happy has never hesitated to stand by his friends. Happy’s cheerful personality and optimistic outlook on life provide a source of hope for his friends during difficult times. His presence lifts their spirits and reminds them of the importance of friendship.
During the Edolas arc, his friends were captured by Erza Knightwalker. Happy and Carla congratulated them as they believed two of them had led the Mages into the trap. This is the first time we see Happy get really angry while declaring that he is nobody’s puppet and is a member of the Fairy Tail guild. In this whole arc, Happy has taken the lead and given his best to save his friends and be courageous.
3) Sogeking (One Piece)
Usopp’s alter ego is Sogeking. It is the perfect example of someone who overcomes their fear and fights for justice. While Usopp may not be the strongest member of the Straw Hat Crew, as Sogeking he would find the courage to stand up and fight in the face of overwhelming odds.
When the story initially introduces Usopp, he displays cowardice and dreams of becoming a brave warrior. He used lies to boast about achieving huge things, serving as comic relief. After joining Luffy’s crew, his life changed. After the time skips, we see him getting more courageous and confident in himself and his fighting abilities.
During the Enies Lobby arc, he proves his bravery by burning the World Government’s flag and declaring war to save Nico Robin. He may not have the raw strength of Luffy or Zoro, but his determination to fight for his friends proves his courage.
4) Yuki Sohma (Fruits Basket)
Yuki is the rat of the Chinese Zodiac. He is one of the deuteragonists in the series. For his classmates, Yuki is seen as a perfect being and is given the status of Prince. He too displays a very kind and charming personality. Despite his perfect boy persona, Yuki has faced psychological and emotional trauma from his family.
He has severe self-esteem issues, as Akito made sure she would break him as a person. Akito also ensured that he would never be able to open up to anyone else. Yuki has never been physically strong enough to fight back against this torture. He works hard to break free from the curse of the Sohma family and build meaningful relationships. His journey of self-acceptance and his ability to stand up to his family’s oppression make him one of the bravest characters in Fruits Basket.
5) Iggy (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders)
Iggy was a dog found in the streets of New York. He was a stand user, wielding The Fool. Initially, he was shown to be particularly unpleasant and selfish and does not show any sign of interest in helping the Heroes. After his fight against Pet Shop, we get to know a different side of him.
Iggy risks his life to protect a child from the deadly bird Stand user. Even though he’s just a dog, his determination to fight against a superior opponent who is stronger than him makes him a brave anime character. This fight took a lot from Iggy as he lost one of his paws. Finally, when he had enough, Iggy decided to take Dio seriously. His final act of courageous selflessness is him sacrificing himself to save Polnareff against Vanilla Ice.
When Iggy was alive, he took great pride in himself and strongly believed his Stand was as powerful as Jotaro Kujo’s Star Platinum. When he sacrificed himself to save Polnareff, others acknowledged his courage and strength.
6) Konohamaru Sarutobi (Naruto)
Konohamaru is from the Sarutobi clan. He is the grandson of the third Hokage and dreams of becoming a Hokage himself and idolizes Naruto Uzumaki. Despite being weaker than many of the shinobi around him, he never hesitated to take on dangerous missions. Throughout his life, he learned that there are no shortcuts to achieving one’s goal and started working hard. He becomes a strong genin and continues to strive for greatness.
His most notable moment of bravery comes when he faces Pain’s invasion of Konoha. Even though he knew he was no match for Pain, Konohamaru used his Rasengan to defeat one of the Six Paths, proving his courage and determination.
7) Mumen Rider (One Punch Man)
Mumen Rider is the definition of bravery without strength. As a C-Class hero in One Punch Man, he lacks the overwhelming power of heroes like Saitama or Genos. However, his unwavering sense of justice pushes him to fight against impossible odds. He is an average man altogether with no superpowers to back him up. Mumen Rider chooses to help others anyway, as he cannot ignore any crime taking place in front of him. Even though he has been insulted by Tank Top Hero and others, Mumen does not stop giving his best.
His most inspiring moment is when he stands up to the Deep Sea King, knowing full well that he has no chance of winning. Despite being brutally defeated, his refusal to back down embodies true heroism.
8) Reigen Arataka (Mob Psycho)
Reigen Arataka, Mob’s self-proclaimed mentor, is a con artist with no psychic abilities, yet he constantly finds himself in dangerous situations. Despite his lack of supernatural powers, he fearlessly faces powerful espers, using his quick thinking and charisma to outmaneuver them.
Reigen’s bravery is most evident when he stands up for Mob, even when facing threats beyond his comprehension. His ability to stay composed and protect his apprentice without any real strength makes him one of the most courageous characters in anime.
9) Leorio Paradinight (Hunter x Hunter)
Leorio is a rookie hunter. Initially, the story portrays his character as someone who pursues money and materialistic items. Later on, when he becomes friends with Kurapika, he says that it is his dream to become a doctor and give free healthcare. He is currently a medical student, studying to become a doctor. He became a hunter to earn enough funds to achieve his dream. It was a tough journey for him as Leorio had to face a multitude of strong villains who came in the way of him and his friends. Even when the odds of winning were overwhelmingly low, he stuck around to support his friends.
Leorio does not possess the most power among the main Hunter x Hunter cast, especially compared to Gon, Killua, and Kurapika. However, his bravery and determination make him stand out. Whether it’s standing up to dangerous criminals or charging headfirst into a fight, Leorio never backs down. His most memorable moment of courage is when he punches Ging Freecss in front of an entire audience, displaying his bold and unyielding nature.
10) Gobta (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime)
Gobta is a Hobgoblin originally from the goblin village. His village was saved by Rimuru, the protagonist of the series. He learned martial arts under Hakurou and lives in the capital city of the Jura-Tempest Federation. While other goblins had a change in appearance after evolving, Gobta does not have any drastic changes. Most of them see him to be some sort of an airhead; it is when faced with a challenge that we get to see that Gobta is intelligent.
He is promoted from being the Goblin Riders’ vice-captain to the role of a captain. Gobta grows into a reliable warrior, proving his courage in battle. He never hesitates to face stronger opponents, even when the odds are against him. Gobta starts his journey as a weak character who slowly works on himself as he is well aware of his drawbacks. Also, when he has to fight for Rimuru or his friends, Gobta has never backed down.
