Updated: Those builds were created during Early Access of Enshrouded for Patch #3 and will be updated upon full release and following patches. During Early Access, Keen Games Studio often introduces new updates and adjustments to skills and gameplay mechanics to prepare Enshrouded for full release. The Patch #3 added a new craftsperson, a new quest, and, most importantly, a new dungeon. The new dungeon, the Hollows, comes with new legendary gear, puzzles, enemies, and trophies you can hang in your house. There are four hollows, each with higher-level enemies and difficulty with the Kindlewaste dungeon scaling to level 25, with level 30 gear. This is now the best legendary gear in the game, and our builds will be changed to reflect this.

Assassin Build Guide

The Assassin build in Enshrouded is a versatile weapon user who focuses on sneak, opportunity damage, and backstabbing. What makes the Assassin unique is using both melee and ranged weapons while emphasizing flanking and surprise attacking the enemy. This build is for those players who enjoy sneak and stealth kills at range or melee.

Before progressing with our Best Enshrouded Assassin Build, your character creation will not impact gameplay. There are no racial passives, ability scores, or attributes to consider. Thus, we advise you to select a character whose appearance resonates with you.

Assassin Build Features & Mechanics

Weapon Choices

The Assassin build in Enshrouded uses both melee weapons and a range bow for damage. The primary reason is, that you can gain backstab from range or in melee, and with skills, amplify this damage significantly. Additionally, melee weapons feature a skill Battle Heal that gives you a burst heal for critically striking with a melee weapon. Thus, you can use the melee and range method for destroying enemies based on the situation or preferred playstyle.

Initially, use a Double Jump attack for damage while wielding a mace and shield. Mace is chosen because at tend game they are great weapons with improved critical hit damage. For a bow, you want increased critical strike chance and critical hit damage. Lastly, keep a Wand on you in case you need to attack at range and run out of arrows.

Arrows

The Hunter Craftsperson unlocks the ability to craft arrows and special arrows. When you first start, Wooden Arrows are your best option which can be crafted in your manual crafting menu using Twigs. As you explore more areas, and unlock more metals and materials, the Hunter provides better arrows. These typically do more damage or add small amounts of poison damage.

Exploding Arrows come much later in the game but ultimately do the most damage and area multi-kills. These arrows are correlated to the Assassin skill line. Thus, you want to take those skills at level 20 or beyond when you’ve unlocked most of the crafting materials and production furniture.

Below is a list of our favorite arrows in Enshrouded:

• Wooden Arrows – Beginner craftable arrow using the manual crafting section. These are considered basic and do piercing damage.
• Iron Poison Arrow – Iron arrows laced with poison add damage over time element to the arrow.  Materials needed to craft are the copper arrow and poison sack.
• Stun Arrow – Deals no damage, but stuns targets depending on size.  Materials needed to craft Twigs, Goo, Alchemical Base, and Bug Dust.
• Exploding Arrows – 41 damage that explodes on impact with fire.  Materials needed to craft Flint Arrow, Feather, and Black Powder.

Backstab & Opportunity

To trigger backstab damage in Enshrouded, you must be directly behind an enemy. A small popup will display in a light blue outline to the right of the health bar when triggered. This does additional damage based on your attributes, gear, and stats, and will be significant at the end game. You can trigger backstab damage through melee or range attacks and always want to start attacking from the back.

Opportunity attack in Enshrouded is attacking an unsuspecting enemy. Essentially, you want to start combat crouched, ideally behind a bush. While this isn’t always possible, you can increase damage using both of these features and burst damage enemies with an opening shock at range or melee. Therefore, take the time to sneak around and find the optimal stealth attack!

Sneak Attack

To do a sneak attack in Enshrouded, you must unlock the skill in the yellow skill try, sneak behind an enemy, and press the interact button undetected. Moreover, this is a melee-based skill and will do over 1,000% more damage than a simple melee attack. While difficult to execute, look for windows to sneak behind enemies. The NPCs in Enshrouded have a distinct walking path that can be memorized. Sneak behind them when they turn around and press the interact key [E] to trigger this powerful sneak attack.

Best Assassin Attributes & Combat Stats

The best attributes and stats for the Enshrouded Assassin build are Dexterity, Strength, and Constitution. Dexterity determines your ranged bow damage, while strength determines your melee damage. Additionally, the Constitution attribute determines health but also influences your healing with the Battle Heal skill. Thus, having a large health pool (over 1,000) will help keep your survivability high.

The secondary priority for your Assassin build in the Enshrouded game is Backstab damage, Sneak Attack damage, and Ambush damage. These can “stack” on top of each other providing some of the highest bursts in the game. Thus, having a balanced stat and attribute distribution will keep your damage and survivability high. Lastly, your Flame Altar level will increase your attribute bonus. This is a priority for improving your Enshrouded Assassin build power level. 

Skill Selections

In Enshrouded, you earn skill points from leveling and completing Elixir Wells. We have broken down the skill sections based on level range and listed the best skills to select at every level for this build. While your skill points totals may change depending on your overall level, and Elixir Well completions, save up skill points if you cannot afford one at your current level. Below is what our skill points were at various levels in Enshrouded:

• Level 10 – 36 Skill Points
• Level 20 – 72 Skill Points
• Level 25 – 114 Skill Points

The maximum level in Enshrouded is 25, with some enemies in further regions being level 30. The general skill selections below are geared towards combat performance specifically, and we will list and explain the most critical of all the skills. Moreover, look to the utility skill section if you prefer more utility, crafting, and less combat emphasis. Lastly, you can always respec your skill points with Runes at the Flame Altar so feel free to experiment. However, we feel the below selections are the best overall for combat power and enjoyment for the best Assassin build in Enshrouded.

Level 1-10 Skills

Below is a list, in order, of the skills for the Best Assassin Build for Enshrouded from levels 1 to 10:

• Strength (Athlete): Increases Melee damage by 5%.
• Endurance (Survivor): Increases stamina by 10.
• Runner (Survivor): Sprinting speed increased by 10%, and stamina consumption decreased by 10%.
• Double Jump (Survivor): Allows jumping a second time while airborne.
• Jump Attack (Athlete): When equipped with a melee weapon, you can perform a jump attack, which deals 50% more weapon damage in a small blast radius.
• Constitution (Tank): Increases Health by 50.
• Shiny Plates (Tank): Physical Armor gains 10% more armor points.
• Evasion Attack (Tank): When equipped with a melee weapon, you can perform an evade attack which dashes towards the enemy and deals more weapon damage with (LMB).
• Battle Heal (Tank): When dealing critical damage with a melee weapon, you will heal 5% of your maximum health.
• Arcane Deflection (Battlemage): On a successful parry, gain 20 mana.
• Blink (Healer): Replaces the Dodge Roll Ability With a Short Range teleport.
• Sneak Attack (Core): The sneak attack deals massive 10x damage to unaware enemies. To Trigger it, sneak up on an enemy and press (E).
• Backstab Damage (Core): Increased the Damage you deal from behind by 25%.
• Endurance (Survivor): Increases stamina by 10.
• Wanderlust (Survivor): Stamina consumption for sprinting on dirt roads is reduced from 90% to 80%. Stamina consumption for sprinting on stone roads is reduced from 75% to 50%.

Level 11-20 Skills

• Swiftshot Sustenance (Survivor): 30% chance to spawn a stamina orb when defeating an enemy with a bow.
• Backstab Mastery (Survivor): All damage done from the back is increased by 30%.
• Arachnoid (Survivor): Stamina consumption while climbing is reduced by 50%.
• Dexterity (Survivor): Increases ranged damage by 5%.
• Dessert Stomach (Survivor): You gain one additional food slot.
• Constitution (Warrior): Increases Health by 50.
• The Warrior’s Path (Warrior): When attacking with a melee weapon, the damage is increased by 10%.

• Sniper (Assassin):  when attacking with a ranged weapon your critical hit chance is increased by 10%.
• Vitality Surge (Assassin): Dealing a critical strike with a ranged weapon restores 5 stamina.

• Shell Shock (Assassin): Infused your ranged explosives with mana, they now stun enemies for 1 second.

• Updraft (Assassin): Pressing the jump button while gliding will give you a small height boost. This skill can be used once per flight at the cost of 120 mana.

• Battle Heal – This skill triggers healing while critically striking with a melee weapon. This helps you survive while in melee and keeps you aggressive doing damage.
• Blink – The Blink skill is the best for mobility, allowing you to create large distances with a dodge. Additionally, Evasion Attack lets you charge into combat with extra damage.
• Sneak Attack – One must take a sneak attack to be a true assassin and do extra damage!
• Dessert Stomach – This skill allows for one extra consumable slot, allowing you to have multiple high-stat bonuses and health regeneration.
• Shell Shock – For crowd control with arrows, Shell shock and explosive arrows can control an entire battlefield. This skill allows you to stop using stun arrows only, and do damage while stunning enemies.
• Chain Reaction – This skill triggers secondary explosions, and when paired with Shell Shock can produce area-based damage and stuns.

Utility Skills

Below are recommended utility skills for this Assassin Build, if you wish to sacrifice some combat performance:

• Mason (Core) – The pickaxe deals 30% more damage against stone objects including resource veins.
• Miner (Core) – When you mine resources, you have a 10% chance to get additional resources.
• Lumberjack (Core) – Felling axes do 30% more damage against wooden objects including trees.
• Relentless Flame (Survivor) – maximum shroud time increased by 5 minutes allowing you to explore for longer.
• Inner Fires (Survivor) – maximum Shroud time increased by 2 minutes, allowing you to explore for longer.

Assassin Gameplay & Tips

The best tip to play the Assassin is to start combat off from stealth and opening with a sneak or backstab. Your positioning and starting combat off with a burst attack are critical. Below are some other gameplay tips when playing the best Assassin build in Enshrouded game:

• Survival – use a combination of potions, and recovery food with battle-heal melee attacks for survival.
• Damage – attempt to trigger a sneak attack and potentially one-shot enemies. However, if this isn’t possible start combat from range using stun or explosive arrows to keep enemies away from you.
• Melee vs. Range – you should use melee when sneaking is possible or need to heal passively with one-handed attacks. Range is best when multiple enemies threaten you and you need to create space. Always aim for the head with range if possible.

Alternative Gear Sets

Depending on your preferred playstyle, use the Blacksmith NPC for melee-focused gear, and the Hunter for Range bow builds. Here’s what we recommend based on your level:

• Level 5 (Fur Armor Set) – Crafted by the Blacksmith and a starter gear set until you unlock the Hunter. Materials needed to craft are torn cloth, animal fur, string, and metal scraps.
• Level 8 (Rising Fighter Set) – First set with melee damage bonuses. Materials needed to craft are Bonemeal, Torn Cloth, String, Metal Scraps, and Resin.
• Level 8 (Scout Set) – First set with ranged damage bonuses. Materials needed to craft are String, Dried Fur, Bones, and Resin.
• Level 13 (Adventurer Set) – High damage set emphasizing melee damage. Materials needed to craft Amber, Torn Cloth, Indigo Plant, Linen, and Dried Fur.
• Level 13 (Ranger Set) – High damage set emphasizing ranged damage. Materials needed to craft Linen, Dried Fur, Bones, Copper Bar, Charcoal, and Amber.
• Level 18 (Mercenary Set) – Upgraded damage set. Materials needed to craft Line, Mint Mushroom Meat, Torn Cloth, Fossilized Bone, and Leather.

The Assassin build will be able to consume four consumable foods rather than three due to Dessert Stomach skill. This allows you to increase Dexterity (bow), Strength (melee), Constitution (health), and recovery. Below are the best consumables for the Assassin build in Enshrouded game:

• Meat Wrap (Crafted) – +5 Constitution, and +1 Intelligence.  Materials needed to craft are Water, Red Mushroom, Raw Sand Digger Meat, and Flour.
• Open Sandwich (Crafted) – +4 Strength and +2 Constitution. Materials needed to craft are Saffron, Grilled Wolf Meat, and Flat Bread.
• Stir-Fried Vegetables (Crafted) – +5 to Dexterity. Materials needed to craft are Corncob, Forest Beet, Tomato, Bell Pepper, and Spice.
• Fruit Bowl (Crafted) – +6 Health regeneration, and +3 Stamina regeneration. Materials needed to craft are Honey, Strawberry, Purple Berries, and Yucca Fruit
• Elixir (Looted) – +30% Damage Multiplier, -1 minute in the shroud. This gives additional damage and stacks with Pray of the Flame Scrolls.

Healing

In addition, make sure to carry berries (blueberries or strawberries) for health regeneration, water for stamina regeneration, and bandages for healing. As you advance, you can unlock the Alchemist and craft healing potions. This will help you early with survival, then start optimizing for damage with consumables.
