GoldenEye 007 received a cult classic title, and Alien: Isolation, based on Ridley Scott’s iconic Alien franchise, is getting a sequel soon. Additionally, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is arriving this December 9 2024, which is great news for Indy fans around the world.

Turning them into video games could take the immersion to the next level. You could play as just another person living in that fictional world, or you could experience the story through the eyes of your favorite characters.
In this article, we’ll talk about four series that deserve a video game adaptation.

4 Popular Series That Could Be Amazing Video Games
Shōgun
Let’s start with one of the most popular historical drama series, Shōgun. Based on James Clavell’s 1975 bestselling novel, this series is ripe for an RPG or historical simulation game. It is definitely one of the popular series that deserves a video game adaptation.
We could imagine it would have similar gameplay as Koei Tecmo’s Dynasty Warriors but more grounded in reality. Players could play as John Blackthorne, the English sailor being shipwrecked in Feudal Japan. He ends up getting entangled with the heated political wars in the region.
Depending on how the story goes, you could switch perspectives to the other characters. This gives you a peak of their minds and motivations. When done right, the game might even add more depth to the overall story and its characters.
If you’re interested in the series, Shōgun can be streamed on Disney+ or you can read the novel if you’re a bookworm.
Cobra Kai
The story follows the Karate Kid storyline but from the perspective of Johnny as he attempts to reopen the iconic Cobra Kai karate dojo. The plot practically begs a Beat ‘Em Up style video game adaptation. Imagine a brawler-type combat system with a bit of RPG elements, that’s focused on Dojo Wars.
For context, Dojo Wars refers to a period where martial arts schools would fight against each other for superiority. You can probably see where we’re going here—the series’ Cobra Kai karate dojo, going against other dojos from the series.
They can even turn it into multiplayer where you can join various dojos and fight each other. It’s an interesting concept that might be tricky to execute. But if done correctly, could add to the hype surrounding martial arts video games. Needless to say, this is one of the popular series that deserves a video game adaptation someday.
Cobra Kai can be streamed on Netflix and currently has 6 seasons.
The Hunger Games
Hunger Games is one of the most popular film series. Surprisingly, there hasn’t been any official Hunger Games video game since the Facebook game, Hunger Games Adventures, shut down in 2027.
Game developers are already doing this hundreds of times. But the dystopian setting and high-stakes arena battles are good ideas for a survival battle royale game. Players could participate as tributes. They could choose their specialization, unique talents, and skills. Aside from fighting each other, the game could add PVE challenges and AI-controlled enemies that would make it harder for them to survive.
There haven’t been many battle royale games gaining success as big as PUBG and Call of Duty in a while. Maybe it’s time for a new challenger to step into the market. For now, the Minecraft Hunger Games is as close as we’ll ever get to an adaptation of the iconic book and film series.
You can stream The Hunger Games on Netflix.
Dandadan
We can never have enough anime video games, and Dandadan is one of the popular series that deserves a video game adaptation. The story follows high schoolers Momo Ayase and Ken Takakura as they encounter and combat spirits based on Japanese urban myths and aliens.
The gameplay could work similar to Naruto Ultimate Ninja’s story mode where you can switch between characters when fighting enemies. The story also showed how each of the character’s powers can complement one another. This means there is potential for combos that you can master to gain an advantage in combat.
Dandadan draws inspiration from various Japanese urban myths. This means the game may feature a journal system that shows information about the entities encountered in the game. The catalog would grow as you make progress and encounter more enemies. This is a good way to learn more about the culture of Japan and the folklore that inspires the manga and anime series.
You can watch Dandadan on Netflix. If you’re into reading manga, it has over 17 volumes.
