While some special editions take a simplistic route, there are standout models that go above and beyond, showcasing intricate designs and thematic artistry that truly celebrate the worlds and characters players love.
Let’s take a look at what we think are five of the best game-themed PS controllers of all time.

1. PS3: Uncharted 3 Special Controller
Let’s start our list of the best Game-Themed PS controllers with older models. The PlayStation 3 generation brought players many memorable titles, but Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception stood out as a defining moment for action-adventure gaming.
The PS3 Uncharted 3 Special Edition Controller inspired by the game was equally iconic. Its design features a rugged, worn map aesthetic that makes you feel you are holding a map while playing the game and exploring uncharted (pun intended) territories. It just perfectly encapsulates the spirit of treasure hunting and adventure that the series is known for.
2. PS4: Aku Aku Controller
One of the most unique and cool-looking controllers I have seen in my years of gaming is the PS4 Aku Aku Controller. Fans of the Crash Bandicoot series will probably wish they had this collector’s edition console and controller. Not only does it have an earthy aesthetic, but it’s also textured like you’re holding a rock-shaped controller. According to sources, this controller was a giveaway from the Micromania website, a gaming store in France.
3. PS5: DualSense Astro Bot Controller
Sony’s Astro Bot was more than just a tech demo for the PS5. It became a love letter to PlayStation history. And with that comes a Limited-Edition Astro-Bot DualSense controller for PS5. The controller has a blue and white color combination with cute LED-like eyes on the faceplate. The buttons and the side part of the game-themed PS5 controller also have that glossy matte finish. It’s a nice design without going too overboard with the theme.
4. PS5: DualSense God of War: Ragnarok Controller
Speaking of simplicity, the Limited-Edition God of War: Ragnarok DualSense controller also follows this trend. It’s simple: a two-tone color design of Blue and White. You can also see what seems to be a bear and a wolf on the faceplate that represent Kratos and Atreus. It doesn’t go too overboard with the design, so most people who see it won’t probably notice that it’s a limited-edition item until they stop and look closely.
It’s a stark contrast to the PS3 God of War Ascension controller that goes over the top with the design.
5. PS5: DualSense Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Controller
The Limited-Edition Spider-Man 2 DualSense controller is arguably one of the most simple yet creative out of the official Sony game-themed PS5 controllers. The concept is just a symbiote taking over a red-colored controller. The striking design splits the controller into red and black halves, representing Peter Parker’s classic suit and the symbiote’s dark influence. This visually stunning controller combines sleek aesthetics with a powerful nod to the game’s central conflict.
