Homes in Oblivion Remastered serve as spaces to store your items safely, with a bed to sleep in and level up. “House” is a loose term and refers to a space that can be owned by the player, with permanent storage to hold extra items.
If you place your excess items in unowned storage containers, they will disappear after three days, making houses a necessity. There are several houses you can own across Cyrodiil, with each of the major towns having one. Here are five of the best houses to serve as reflections of your journey.

The Aleswell Inn offers a free room to new players after completing the simple ‘Zero Visibility’ quest by talking to the invisible innkeeper, Diram Serethi. While the inn isn’t flashy and wandering guests may violate your privacy, the room offers two features an adventurer dearly needs after starting the game: permanent storage and a bed to sleep in for leveling up.

Located in Skingrad, Rosethorn Hall is the most expensive home you can buy in Oblivion Remastered. You can buy it from Shum gro-Yarug, and purchase upgrades from Gunder at the local general store. The Servant Quarters upgrade will introduce a dedicated housekeeper, Eyja, who can serve you food and drink once the kitchen has been upgraded.

Deepscorn Hollow is the perfect lair for Dark Brotherhood, Thieves Guild, or Vampire characters. This eerie underground sanctuary can be claimed by swimming into it and upgraded by speaking to Rowley Eardwulf at the Wawnet Inn. The Purgeblood Crystal Formations in the Font of Renewal provide a renewable supply of Purgeblood Salts, which can be used for alchemy in addition to curing Vampirism.

Battlehorn Castle is a fortress in every sense. After defeating an invading group of marauders, you inherit this towering stronghold by speaking to one of the defenders. With upgrades, you’ll have two men-at-arms, plus a commander who can accompany you. It includes a forge that boosts your Armory skill, a training area with a sparring partner, and a trophy room to show off your defeated adversaries.

Besides the incredibly useful enchanting and spell-making upgrades, the tower also features an Atronach Altar to create an Atronach bodyguard for you.
