The RTX 4090 was the fastest GPU on the planet; it got replaced by the 5090 in 2025, which makes it the second fastest GPU on the planet. Apart from DLSS MFG support, everything else, tech-wise, is the same. At least what you would need and use while gaming. That said, the GPU has 24GB GDDR6X memory on a 384-bit bus and has 16.3K CUDA cores, which makes it immensely powerful. Below are the 5 ray tracing games you can look forward to.

1. Control Ultimate Edition

Control from Remedy was extremely intensive when it launched back in 2020. The 2080 Ti struggles to max out at 1440p, necessitating upscaling and settings adjustments, or even plain raster, due to its lack of Frame Generation capabilities. Fast forward to 4090, with the massive increase in compute and RT performance, at 1440p, you do not require any sort of upscaling when you max this game out. Overall, the experience will be highly addictive.

2. Minecraft RTX

The C++ version of Minecraft incorporates NVIDIA’s RTX technology, bringing next-gen lighting and ambient occlusion to the game. Alternatively, using the Java version, you can also try modded Minecraft with PTGI shaders, alongside Faithful 64 Texture packs as an option.

3. Bright Memory: Infinite

If you are looking for a hack-and-slash game that blends guns, swords, and abilities, this game is for you. As for optimization, even with max settings and RTX on, you can expect the VRAM usage to be around 9GB and the frame rate to be around 200+ with DLSS 3 Frame Generation. You can manually swap to DLSS 4 via DLSS Swapper; it’s totally up to you. Doing that will increase the image quality, as well as the FG image output quality.

4. Returnal

Returnal is a time-loop rogue-like shooter that plays out entirely inside your mind, showcasing combat on an alien planet. If you die, you respawn, but the map and the environment change. It’s a high-action, rogue-like game that thrills people who want maximum FPS and gorgeous visuals at the same time. At 1440p, max settings, with quality upscaling, you can expect 150+ FPS.

5. Portal With RTX

Portal with RTX can be ridiculously intensive even on the 4090, as the game looks jaw-dropping in terms of visual enhancements. Even with your 4090, using upscaling (performance) and DLSS Frame Generation is highly recommended at 1440p. Native resolution seems to struggle.

Verdict

Apart from Portal with RTX, almost all games will run flawlessly on your 4090. Control Ultimate Edition and Bright Memory: Infinite will run at native 1440p, while the rest require DLSS and FG.
