Ada Lovelace replaced Ampere in 2022, and since then, the upgrades—apart from the 90-class GPUs—seem nonexistent. Ada Lovelace and Blackwell are built on the same TSMC node, and their power efficiency is identical, with a slight decrease in the Blackwell lineup.

That said, Blackwell cards do offer newer features, such as DLSS MFG (multi-frame generation), which the Lovelace lineup does not support. However, this can be mitigated by lossless scaling (2x–4x). Below are a few of the best RTX 40 Series GPUs that offer excellent value for money and are great choices for gaming.

1. RTX 4060

If you’re in the used market and looking for a budget-friendly, capable 8GB VRAM GPU for esports and occasional AAA gaming, the RTX 4060 is the ideal choice. You get all the DLSS tech here, including Ray Reconstruction, the transformer model, and frame generation, but not the multivariate.

Specifications

  • CUDA Cores: 3,072
  • Memory: 8GB GDDR6 (128-bit bus)
  • Power: 115W TDP
  • Recommended AIB model: ASUS Dual RTX 4060 OC (compact dual-fan design, solid cooling)

2. RTX 4060 Ti 16GB

If you’re looking for an equally capable GPU as the RTX 5060 Ti, the 4060 Ti 16GB makes a great alternative. The performance difference between these two GPUs is nominal, and you would be better off settling for the 4060 Ti rather than paying the premium for the 5060 Ti.

Specifications

  • CUDA Cores: 4,608
  • Memory: 16GB GDDR6 (128-bit bus)
  • Power: 160W TDP
  • Recommended AIB model: Gigabyte RTX 4060 Ti WindForce OC (excellent cooling capabilities)

3. RTX 4070

If you’re looking for a capable 12GB VRAM GPU, especially one that significantly outperforms the 4060 Ti, then the RTX 4070 is a great buy. Considering used pricing, which is typically lower than the 5060 Ti’s MSRP, it’s indeed a great deal, and you will likely find one under warranty as well. The performance delta between the 4070 and the 5060 Ti is around 15%, but the 5060 Ti has more VRAM (16GB model).

Specifications

  • CUDA Cores: 5,888
  • Memory: 12GB GDDR6X (192-bit bus)
  • Power: 200W TDP
  • Recommended AIB model: MSI RTX 4070 Gaming X Trio (excellent cooling, quiet operation)

4. RTX 4070 Ti Super

The 4070 Ti Super is the most interesting product to come from the Ada Lovelace stack. For starters, the GPU is significantly faster than the RTX 5070 and features 16GB of VRAM, eliminating the 12GB limitation of the 5070. That said, you can get it at a lower price than the RTX 5070, and potentially under warranty in the best case.

Specifications

  • CUDA Cores: 8,448
  • Memory: 16GB GDDR6X (256-bit bus)
  • Power: 285W TDP
  • Recommended AIB model: ASUS TUF Gaming RTX 4070 Ti Super OC (great cooler and dual-BIOS)

5. RTX 4080 Super

The 4080 Super was one of the best GPUs available at the time. Now that it has been decommissioned by Nvidia and replaced by the weaker 5070 Ti, you can find it at around the $700 price point. This is somewhat disappointing, as there are new GPUs available with similar performance and the same VRAM. That said, it’s up to you whether you want to buy it. In terms of power efficiency, it’s significantly better than the 5070 Ti.

Specifications

  • CUDA Cores: 10,240
  • Memory: 16GB GDDR6X (256-bit bus)
  • Power: 320W TDP
  • Performance: High-end 4K gaming with r
  • Recommended AIB model: ASUS ROG Strix RTX 4080 Super OC (premium cooling, highest performance)

Verdict

All of the Ada Lovelace GPUs mentioned here are incredible buys, especially if they are still under warranty. In that case, the performance they provide is exactly what you would expect. If you are getting a used RTX 40 Series card at a significantly lower price than a new Blackwell card, then opting for the Ada Lovelace generation is highly recommended.
