VTubers are extremely popular within the online community, and there have been controversial occasions involving them.
VTuber content has become one of the most talked about subjects within the content creation and streaming scenes. For those unfamiliar with VTubers, it’s essentially short for Virtual YouTubers. These creators usually depict themselves through distinct digital avatars mimicking their real-life movements and speech.
Despite their popularity, the VTubing scene hasn’t been completely bereft of controversies and dramas. This year (2024) alone, fans have witnessed multiple clashes and contentious moments. This article will focus on five such VTuber controversies.

1) Ironmouse’s YouTube Channel Got Deleted
In September 2024, Ironmouse revealed that her VOD (video on demand) channel on YouTube was facing imminent deletion. She revealed this happened because an individual had falsely copyright-claimed some of her videos. To raise a dispute, she had to send in her personal information. Being a VTuber meant that she couldn’t risk sending her information, fearing that the individual might dox her.
Fortunately for Ironmouse, YouTube heard her plea. She also stated that her agency (VShojo) had also spoken on her behalf to YouTube. Later in September, her VOD channel was reinstated.
2) Froot Opens Up On Her Ex-Partner
In September 2024, another VTuber drama unfolded when Froot, also known as “LichVtuber,” shared a detailed 90-page document on her X.com account, making serious allegations against her ex-husband/ex-partner. The document detailed how the individual had allegedly abused Froot since she was 19, insulted her, and coerced her into engaging in sexual activities she was uncomfortable with.
She also shared screenshots of messages, including chat exchanges where her ex-partner threatened suicide if she were to break up with him. Additionally, she revealed that she was belittled for experiencing symptoms of dyslexia.
3) VTuber Fefe Calls Out Twitch

In August 2024, VTuber Fefe, also known as CovfefeChan, took to her socials to call out Twitch and its management. According to her post, Twitch had banned her over seven times, and the streamer demanded an explanation. She also mentioned that her lawyers had been in contact with Twitch, but the platform refused to respond.
Some fans speculated that the reason behind the bans was Fefe’s use of a suggestive avatar, which displayed cleavage and possibly violated Twitch’s community guidelines. Nonetheless, her channel was later reinstated. She currently has 196K followers.
4) Yozora Mel Terminated From Hololive
In January 2024, a major VTuber with nearly 900K subscribers had their channel wiped out. Hololive, the VTuber agency, announced that Yozora Mel was removed from their roster, and her channel has been terminated.
According to the announcement, the termination was due to Mel unauthorizedly sharing private information with third parties. This breach of her contract agreement and terms of service led to her expulsion from the organization. The official notice read:
“It has been confirmed that Yozora Mel has been engaging in acts that violated her contract by leaking information that she acquired from the company to third parties. As a result, we have determined that it has become difficult to continue managing and supporting her and, with agreement from the talent, we have elected to make this decision.”
5) VTuber Dokibird’s Legal Information Leaked
In February 2024, VTuber Dokibird explained a rather complicated situation. She had made her re-debut that month but was forced to cut off her stream after a leak of legal information, allegedly from her former company, Nijisanji.
Among the information leaked was her medical information. Dokibird also revealed that her legal team communicated with Nijisanji regarding the matter. She said:
“I am currently talking to my lawyer and, thankfully, only my diagnosis and reason for hospital stay was reported, without further private info being disclosed.”
