These games prove that, when they were released, they were years ahead of their time in terms of gameplay, art direction, and even graphics. 1. ICO
The game that inspired Dark Souls, The Last of Us, and many more, ICO, is a game that risked attempting something new and unique, and it paid off well. It took many risks, such as open-ended storytelling that trusted players to use their imagination to fill in the gaps. In addition, the game introduced the level design that loops in itself via shortcuts, which gave clear inspiration to the Souls series.

2. Devil May Cry 3
Arguably one of the greatest action games of all time, Devil May Cry 3 is what made the DMC series legendary. 3. Resident Evil 4
The original Resident Evil 4, while it has some minor mechanical issues, is still an amazing game. While the remake was spectacular in its own right, it couldn’t capture the essence of the original Resident Evil 4, instead evolving into its own thing. This gives the original game its own place in the hall of fame. Additionally, the aesthetic, music, and even the combat of the game feel good to play in 2025.
Furthermore, some players even argue that the original is better than the remake, proving that this game still holds up well in 2025.
4. God of War 2
Hailed as the best God of War game by many, God of War is a game that pushed the PlayStation 2 to its absolute limits. With great graphics that could easily be mistaken for a PS3 game, wild setpieces, and amazing gameplay, it is no wonder that so many players celebrate this game. Additionally, as so many players still compare the Norse saga God of War games to this one, it easily proves that God of War 2 still holds up well to this day.
5. Tekken 5
Widely considered to be the greatest Tekken game of all time, Tekken 5 is the most groundbreaking entry into the franchise. This is particularly to do with the graphics and gorgeous soundtrack, alongside refining the newly introduced 3D system. For these reasons, Tekken 5 ended up becoming the most sold Tekken game of all time.
Additionally, you have players complaining about Tekken 8 online, comparing it to Tekken 5 and saying that it is still the best Tekken game. While these complaints are mostly nostalgia, it proves that Tekken 5 is a gem of a game that holds up to this day.
