Within three months of 2025, we have already seen some contenders for the GOTY Award. Here are the five contenders for the 2025 Game of The Year award.

From Metaphor: ReFantazio to Astro Bot, 2024 was a massive year for gaming blockbusters. With many great hits, The Game Awards 2024 garnered much attention, ultimately announcing Astro Bot as the GOTY winner.
Similarly, 2025 is absolutely stacked with some of the most anticipated games and sequels. While the arrival of Grand Theft Auto VI and Elden Ring: Nightreign is still far off, we already have some solid contenders for this year’s GOTY award; some have already been released. Here are the new games of 2025 with the potential to be this year’s Game of the Year.
1) Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2

Originally started from a fundraiser, the Kingdom Come franchise is a medieval-based RPG that focuses on Henry’s adventure through the lands. The sequel to its story garnered more attention than its predecessor and is a critical success among fans and critics.
Henry serves as the royal guard in the Kingdom of Bohemia. However, everything around him changes when raiders attack him and the nobleman he protects, Hans Capon.
In a generation where optimization is a myth, KCD2 breaks the cycle and performs well even on low-end PCs. Additionally, its story and ever-evolving world make every step of the game refreshing. With exciting mini-games, a branching story where your actions reflect your surroundings, and energetic characters you can romance, Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a must-play.
2) Split Fiction

Split Fiction is the latest game by the legendary game director Josef Fares, the creator of 2022 GOTY winner It Takes Two. Like his previous games, Split Fiction pushes the boundaries of innovation and delivers experimental ideas that are usually rejected before even reaching the editing phase. The concept of the story is simple. It follows two co-authors who ultimately get stuck inside their creative ideas and have to find a way out to stop a certain individual from stealing their ideas.
From exploring high mountain ranges to transforming into sausages in unique level designs, Split Fiction includes easter eggs, showing love to many genre-defining games. All in all, the game has something for everyone in store.
3) Monster Hunter Wilds

What’s better than to hunt some monsters in the wild with your friends? Monster Hunter Wilds is the latest and the fastest-selling entry in its series, developed by Capcom.
Unlike the other game in the series, it leans toward ease of access for new players with its 15-hour-long campaign and watered-down difficulty. Inheriting iconic monsters and weapons from the previous series, Wilds is just as energetic as ever. Additionally, the revamped multiplayer system makes it easier to connect with friends.
It defines what a solid action game should look like. The immersiveness, soundtrack, and work on monsters’ designs are as impressive as in their previous games. Considering how loyal the game’s fanbase is, Monster Hunter Wilds is another solid contender for this year’s GOTY with its recent mainstream breakthrough.
4) Indiana Jones and The Great Circle

Indiana Jones and The Great Circle marks the return of fan-favorite archeologist, Indy, and this time in a AAA-scale game. Although it was released in December 2024, the game wasn’t eligible to appear in the awards as per its release date.
This year it’s time for Indiana Jones to shine. Known for its exceptional adventure elements and sandbox open world, the game remains loyal to its movie’s humor and storytelling tone.
From the developers of the critically acclaimed Wolfenstein Series, Indiana Jones and The Great Circle was a hit at launch. A love letter to the original trilogy and its fanbase, the game encapsulates the essence of Indiana Jones perfectly.
5) Grand Theft Auto: VI

Everyone knows how criminally anticipated GTA 6 is. From the leaks that forced Rockstar Games to launch its trailer, the game has accumulated massive anticipation since.
Rockstar is known to regularly tackle their previous games with their new launch; the difference between Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 was surreal. Given Grand Theft Auto’s fan-following, winning the Game of The Year award will be effortless for them. If it stays on track, it is scheduled to be released in Fall 2025, and dare I say, it will be a groundbreaking release if it lives up to the hype.
