Other than the responsibility for Super Earth and the feeling of Democracy, here’s why Helldivers 2 is still so popular till now.
Helldivers 2 has been out for almost 3 months now, but the game still has a stable flow of helldivers fighting for Super Earth. Why is it that a hoard shooter has lasted this long in the era of hero shooters and FPS games? Is it the cause of Democracy, or is it the cathartic feeling of bombing aliens with a laser, the power of a small sun? Here are 5 reasons why Helldivers 2 is still popular. Even after Sony’s small error of banning several countries restricting PSN accounts.
1. Gameplay
The gameplay of Helldivers 2 has good enough gunplay and more destruction. The aliens being blown into bits, your own fellow Helldivers blowing up or getting crushed by Drop pods, is a thing to witness during its high-tension gameplay. The battle for Super Earth has been a long struggle since the launch of the game, and it still goes on.
The mechanics of initiating and diving, while trying not to get blown by your own friends, make it super fun. Plus, the density of enemies on harder levels is much higher, and you will immerse yourself in a war against the species that are bent on taking you down. But, don’t worry, there is always another Helldiver to replace your fight for Democracy!
2. Community
The community in online games is especially toxic, and Helldivers 2 is no exception. However, the toxic ones are in the minority as the fight is against the aliens, and not each other. In PvP games, communities become toxic as you depend on your team, as well as the other team, to make mistakes that will win you games. This mentality often breeds toxicity.
However, the element of PvP is not present, and you’re all fighting for Super Earth. One mission: eliminate those aliens and complete your objectives. You might meet a griefer or two occasionally, but the community is normally welcoming to players. Especially when the flow of new players is still consistent till now.
3. Cross play
The Crossplay feature is a lifesaver for people playing on consoles and PCs. While it might seem like a feature that should be there for every co-op game, a game like Helldivers 2 needs it. The game is simply more fun with friends than playing solo.
The comedic and epic moments that are brought forward by the battles against the aliens are what bring a good player experience. This is one of the main reasons why people still play the game, as consoles are a better way of playing certain games. As you are much more comfortable sitting on a couch or a sofa. Rather than a chair.
4. Developer Feedback
The developers of Helldivers 2 are often very interactive with their community. While it might be due to the nature of the game, they never fail to add a few easter eggs here and there after every update. Seemingly, the developers also build updates based on community feedback. Right down to the cosmetics.
So, it is cool to see that, even in this era where gamers seem to be represented through buying power and not player experience, the developers of Helldivers 2 are doing more than decent to help their players enjoy more of their game.
5. Democracy
If you have fairly enjoyed the game a bit, and still enjoy it occasionally, you know freedom costs nothing. Not even your life. Helldivers 2 really pushes hard on the narrative. From the gameplay, to the home screen, to the cosmetics, and the update notes. They are very fun to read.
The fight against Aliens has brought us to Super Earth in the latest update, and the ultimate results have recently been released. While the Helldivers try their hardest. Sometimes democracies can fall when there is an advanced species of aliens raining down right outside your doorstep.
