Assassin’s Creed Shadows is the upcoming newest game in Ubisoft’s Assassin’s Creed franchise. An Assassin’s Creed game set in Japan has been long awaited by fans and now, it is nearly here. The game is scheduled for release on March 20, 2025, on all platforms and as the release draws nearer, excitement has been increasing.
With that said, here are 5 things that fans want to see in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
1) A Reinvigorating Return to Stealth
Since Assassin’s Creed Origins, the AC games have focused more on action and RPG elements than the franchise’s stealth-based roots. Assassin’s Creed Mirage in 2023 reinvigorated the stealth aspect of the franchise, and Shadows appears to be carrying that along.
It seems that the gameplay of the shinobi, Naoe, will be almost entirely focused on stealth. This is because you can utilize new mechanics such as your visibility levels in light and shadow. As such, it would be best for the game to have more options available in pursuing your objectives stealthily than ever before.
2) A Duality of Playstyles
Assassin’s Creed Shadows features two playable characters with distinctly different playstyles. The shinobi, Naoe, is silent, quick on her feet, and has a playstyle focused on stealth. Meanwhile, the samurai, Yasuke, is a large, hulking figure who is much more head-on during confrontations.
The game gives you the option to choose one of the two characters to play during any mission. This freedom will certainly lead to more excitement during the game. This freedom to decide how to play the game and the distinct variety offered are some major selling points and leaning into these is recommended for the game.
3) Exploring the Feudal Era of Japan
An Assassin’s Creed game set in feudal Japan has been anticipated by the fans for over a decade. So, for fans of the franchise, AC Shadows has given them the opportunity that they have waited for so long.
Furthermore, the option to play as a samurai or a ninja in feudal Japan is too interesting to pass up. Therefore, Shadows would do well to make these options as enticing as possible.
4) The Return of the Templars
Due to the timeframe of the last few games in the series, the Assassins and Templars have not made a proper appearance in the series since Assassin’s Creed Syndicate. However, with Shadows being set in the 16th century, the Templars may finally make their official reappearance under the Templar name.
As the main antagonistic force of the series, this is a development that is sure to excite many fans of the game.
5) A More Streamlined Story
The story of the Assassin’s Creed games has gotten more convoluted over time, and while this is not a big deal, the problem comes with the modern-day storyline. The story of modern times continues to get bloated more and more with each game and most players simply push through it to reach the ‘fun’ part.
Therefore, with Shadows, Ubisoft has the opportunity to simplify the modern-day plotline. Additionally, they can make it more accessible to casual players, thus raising the enjoyability for all players.
