In this list, we’ll explore some of the deserving video game series remasters that players would love to get their hands on.

Video game companies around the world have been using remasters to boost their earnings. These often do not involve as substantial an investment as creating a new game does. Similarly, the costs associated with remastering a game are usually much less compared to a full-blown remake. Many of these remasters rely on the nostalgia factor of long-time fans to become a success for their respective studios. However, remasters also update older games to be playable on modern systems. From slightly updated visual fidelity to improved controls, remasters can easily improve on their original titles.
However, in a sea of remasters, there are still some game series that deserve the remaster route but haven’t gotten one yet. In this piece, we explore the five video game series remasters that we need.
Top 5 Video Games Series Remaster We Deserve
Here is a list of series that should get the remaster treatment sooner rather than later.
- Chrono Trigger
- Amnesia
- God of War original trilogy
- Prince of Persia: Sands of Time trilogy
- Splinter Cell
Let’s take a look at these video game series in greater detail.
1. Chrono Trigger

Originally released in 1995 for the SNES, Chrono Trigger is a role-playing game series. Players will have to explore a vast world that includes forests, dungeons, and cities. They can also talk to NPCs and complete puzzles and challenges to get access to a range of supplies and items. The combat system involved an active time battle system, where your character can perform actions when their personal timers counted down to zero. Also, the game featured other highly intriguing mechanics, including time travel.
Even though Chrono Trigger eventually made its way to other platforms, such as Windows, the PS1, Android, and iOS, it never received a complete remaster. On the other hand, Square Enix did remaster the sequel to this game, dubbed Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition. However, for some reason, the developers didn’t do the same for the first game in the series, and it remains unplayable on modern consoles.
2. Amnesia

Next in our list of the desperately needed video game series remasters is Amnesia, a survival horror series that began in 2010. The first game in this celebrated series, Amnesia: The Dark Descent, received critical acclaim. The success was such that the game had three sequels: Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, Amnesia: Rebirth, and Amnesia: The Bunker.
While the last two games in this series are relatively new, the first two games desperately need a remaster. The visuals might appear dated on most modern systems, ruining some of the immersion for players.
The lack of an official remaster from Frictional Games has even triggered a fan-made remaster of Amnesia: The Dark Descent. So, it is high time the developers released an updated version of the game that runs smoothly across modern PCs and consoles.
3. God of War Original Trilogy

While there are rumors that the original God of War trilogy games are being remastered, nothing is confirmed for now. However, remastering the first three games in the series makes perfect sense, especially after the series’ revival through God of War (2016) and God of War Ragnarok.
The original God of War, God of War 2, and God of War 3 were released exclusively on the PS2 and PS3. Sony may want to expand their player base by ensuring that the remastered versions are available on PC as well. Playing through these games will help you to understand Kratos’s backstory, as the newer games only hinted at what the son of Zeus did in the past.

4. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time Trilogy

Prince of Persia is a franchise that first came into being in 1989. However, it was the Sands of Time trilogy that began in 2003 that brought the series into the limelight. The first game in the trilogy was dubbed Sands of Time. The sequels were named Prince of Persia: Warrior Within and Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones.
Every one of the three games was highly popular with fans. The mixture of high-octane action and puzzle-solving clicked with gamers across the world. Even though a remake of Sands of Time is slated for release in 2026, we feel that Warrior Within and The Two Thrones also deserve updates. If not full-blown remakes, Ubisoft can remaster these two titles for modern systems.
5. Splinter Cell

Splinter Cell was one of the earliest video game series that let you get in the shoes of a secret agent. These games revolutionized how games approached stealth. You play as Sam Fischer, part of a black-ops division in the NSA. Throughout every mission, Sam can approach his target in different ways, some stealthier than others. In every game, light and shadow play a huge role when it comes to enemies detecting you. Also, you can employ a range of different gadgets to complete missions.
Ubisoft has revealed that it is working on a remake of the first game in the series, Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow. However, at this point, every game in the series deserves at least a remaster. Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Splinter Cell: Double Agent, and Splinter Cell: Conviction are all games in the series that have started to show their age graphically. Also, most of these are unavailable on the modern consoles.
