Rockstar Games returns to a familiar setting in GTA 6. Here are 6 Florida memes and myths we might see when the game releases.
The first trailer for GTA 6 contained plenty of Florida memes that netizens must be familiar with. Not only did the nostalgic Vice City setting win everybody’s heart, but the virtual world appeared as chaotic as ever. The game’s release date is still pretty far away, but that doesn’t stop us from speculating on what our eyes may catch once the game is released.
Nearly all internet users are aware of all the “Florida memes” by now. Those who remain caught up with memes around the world recognize Florida, and more specifically, Miami, as a place where the most unexpected incidents may occur.
On top of the memes, there are also myths and cryptids in almost every city that GTA has been set in. Rockstar Games is sure to make good use of these myths and include them in GTA 6 as Easter Eggs for players to find. What could these memes and myths be? Let’s sit and speculate.
NOTE: There is no official confirmation on any of these events taking place. The writer is merely speculating.
1. A Bunch of Reptile Friends
The first reveal trailer for GTA 6 got the gaming community abuzz, especially regarding the involvement of wildlife in the game. The animals seem more involved than ever. With the slightly increased integration of wildlife into GTA Online as well, we couldn’t help but wonder whether the animals in the game will be more involved.
The Alligators in the new GTA 6 trailer had a similar on-screen time to that of Jason, presumably one of the two playable protagonists. These chunky reptiles can be seen entering stores on their own and visiting private pools for a swim. None of this is purely fictional. In fact, Florida has seen such incidents in the past. So, fans would probably be more than happy to come across some Gators randomly surprising NPCs by showing up in places they were not supposed to be.
2. Random Police Chases
Nothing makes Grand Theft Auto feel more lively than the police chasing random NPCs. In Vice City, you could find these on-foot chases more often than the games that came after. GTA 5 eliminated this to a great extent by making the police officers much more aggressive, who would rather ram or shoot NPCs on sight.
The trailer put forward another Florida meme where a law enforcer was seen chasing down an unclothed man across a gas station. Since it is a meme, fans watching the GTA 6 trailer were already familiar with it. But what would make it even better is if we saw such encounters while playing the game? And like in Vice City, stopping those escaping the law might actually reward you.
3. Road Encounters To Keep Things Interesting
One incident in Florida that spread quickly on the internet was citizens on motorbikes, driving around in groups. The cops, unfortunately, couldn’t stop them right away, but Rockstar Games probably found that moment iconic enough to put it in the GTA 6 trailer.
This is something that we may also catch while driving around Vice City, and the rest of the map. Imagine a group of NPCs driving as recklessly as the player in the game. That is something worth stopping for.
Moreover, there was a particular scene in the trailer where a lady was “twerking” on top of a driving car. This was also inspired by real-life events. So, it may not be rare to see that happening in the game as well.
4. Skunk Ape
After Bigfoot in GTA 5, we may get the Skunk Ape in GTA 6. He can be classified as the Floridan cousin of the former. There are a few distinctions, obviously. For example, the Skunk Ape is smaller in size and is usually described as a man-sized ape. He is also said to dwell in the swampy regions of Florida, hence the terrible odor that he emits.
This is a cryptid that goes back to 1818, with the sightings coming from European settlers in the area. It has received several names in the past, like the Esti Capcaki, which translates to a “Hairy Giant.” Will we see this myth in GTA 6 as an Easter Egg? Hopefully yes!
5. A Very Popular Shark
The unfortunate war times of the modern era gave birth to several urban legends that still live to this day. One of them was the long and strong Hammerhead shark called Old Hitler. It was allegedly spotted along the coast of Florida starting in 1942. The Hammerhead was about 20 feet long.
While this is the same size as the longest Great Hammerhead Shark ever recorded, Old Hitler, can be differentiated by the shadowy dark color and the many scars it has. It is also claimed that it has an “unfortunate” scar on its head, giving it the infamous name. Hopefully, we can see it in the game. The developers can add it as a random spawn for when players try to leave the bounds via water, just like how a shark stopped us from leaving Los Santos in GTA 5.
6. A Bear or a Cat?
Florida has alleged sightings of a cat native to it. This furry friend is claimed to have black and white striped fur, long claws, and yellow eyes to ward away its hunters and predators. As far as the sightings suggest, the creature appears harmless.
While it could definitely be a case of misidentification, it would be cool to explore the forests in search of a cute, hybrid kitty. We hope developers are able to make use of this myth in the world of GTA 6.
