2025 is going to be a memorable year for RPG fans, with countless exciting titles lined up for release. Check out the best ones right here.
If you’re a RPG fan, 2025 is set to be a year to remember. This is because there are tons of new and unique RPGs to look out for. Some of these are sequels to highly successful titles, like Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. Meanwhile, others are completely new titles from acclaimed developers, like Avowed. Nevertheless, there are lots of options to choose from for all types of fans.
So, in this article, we’ve compiled a list of the best RPGs you should save your money for.
Best Upcoming RPGs in 2025 You Should Look Forward To
1. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II
Kingdom Come: Deliverance is probably one of the most unique and immersive RPGs ever made. The game is basically a medieval simulator where you experience the life of a blacksmith’s son who goes on to become a knight in 15th-century Bohemia. Now, the epic journey will be continued with Kingdom Come: Deliverance II, one of the most highly anticipated RPGs of 2025.
You can play the game from 11 February 2025 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The map for KCD 2 is expected to be twice as large as the first game, with two different sections — the Bohemian Paradise and Kuttenberg. The former is mostly wilderness with scenic vistas, whereas the latter includes a massive city and its surrounding regions. Kingdom Come: Deliverance II will also take quite a while to beat. The game has five hours of cutscenes, and the base game is around 80 to 100 hours long.
2. Avowed
You’ll be able to play Obsidian’s upcoming RPG Avowed from February 18, 2025, on Windows PCs and Xbox Series X|S consoles. Obsidian are masters of storytelling, and fans expect them to return to form with this game, following the somewhat mixed reception of The Outer Worlds. Some have been comparing it to Skyrim, but it’s unlikely to be too similar to it.
First of all, this game will be exclusively played from a first-person perspective, much like Cyberpunk 2077. You should also note that Avowed is set in the same world as the Pillars of Eternity games. Obsidian is renowned for classics like KOTOR II, Neverwinter Nights 2, and Fallout: New Vegas. They’ve also made some underrated gems like Alpha Protocol and Tyranny. So, there’s a lot riding on Avowed, and the hype is at an all-time high.
3. Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii
With every new release, the Yakuza series seems to get more whackier. Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii is a spin-off title of the Like a Dragon series. As expected, the game is entirely themed around being a pirate, and the protagonist this time is Goro Majima, who will be leading his own pirate crew. Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio has already given us a sneak peek of what the game will look like, and it seems to be following the same beat ’em up format with some twists.
Like a true pirate, you get to use cutlasses and pistols. You can even manage your own pirate ship to sail the seas. If you were disappointed by Skull and Bones and want a better pirate game, you might want to try this. Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii will be launching on February 21, 2025, for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
4. Monster Hunter Wilds
Monster Hunter Wilds is the successor to 2018’s highly successful Monster Hunter: World, and it’s coming out on February 28, 2025 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The Monster Hunter series features action-RPG games where you play as a Hunter who tracks and fights monsters, either capturing or slaying them. You can craft gear, cook food, and get resupplied in your hunter village. Meanwhile, you can hunt for monsters in multiple different open-world biomes.
A major attraction is the four-player co-op, although you can even use AI teammates instead. Monsters in the world will interact with each other, making the open-world biomes feel living and immersive.
5. Fable
The Fable series is being revitalized with a fresh reboot, and although it doesn’t have an exact release date, you can expect it to launch in 2025 for PCs and Xbox Series X|S. Not much is known about this new title, apart from a cinematic official trailer that received a lot of flak for its character designs. The video currently has a like-dislike ratio of 14,000-27,000, so fans are still quite conflicted about it.
What sets apart the Fable series is the iconic alignment system, the contrast between the dark storyline and the cartoonish graphics, and the things you do in the side. For instance, in the original Fable games, you could buy out an entire town and rent all the houses, get married, and even have children. At the moment, we don’t know if we’ll be able to do any of these in the new Fable or even if the player character is customizable.
6. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
After going through a troubled development cycle, the much-awaited successor to 2004’s iconic vampire action-RPG is set to launch in 2025. Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 is expected to release in the first half of the upcoming year on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game had been continuously delayed, starting from 2019, and changed hands multiple times.
It was originally being developed by Hardsuit Labs, and the project had roped in Brian Mitsoda, the original writer of VTMB, as well as legendary game designer Chris Avellone. Rik Schaffer also returned as the main composer for this sequel, and he even scored a main theme for the new game.
At the moment, all three of them have left, and the game is being developed by The Chinese Room. The story and gameplay seem to have been altered as well, as revealed by the gameplay trailers.
7. Borderlands 4
2K’s iconic looter-shooter series with RPG mechanics is set to get a new title in 2025, which you can play on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. Borderlands 4 has only revealed a short teaser trailer, but it seems like we’re getting to see a new planet. So, this will be the first time that the game takes us away from Pandora. As usual, the game will introduce four new Vault Hunters, and Gearbox has also hinted at enhanced RPG mechanics.
