However, this is a versatile feature that almost any genre can make use of, whether it’s a high-fantasy RPG, a modern-day action-adventure title, or even a tactical shooter. Now, if you’re subscribed to PS Plus, you’ll get access to a wide variety of open-world titles that are sure to appease all types of gamers.
In light of that, we’ve created a comprehensive list of open-world titles that PS Plus subscribers can enjoy in 2025. These range from games with historical settings like Ghost of Tsushima, superhero games like Spider-Man 2, and even military-themed shooters like Ghost Recon: Wildlands. Open-World Titles on PS Plus You Should Check Out in 2025
1. Ghost of Tsushima: Director’s Cut
If you’re looking for an open-world action-adventure game on PS Plus with a historic setting, Ghost of Tsushima is what you should look out for. This stunning title transports you to medieval Japan, during the Mongol invasion of the island of Tsushima. Ghost of Tsushima isn’t historically accurate, and the depiction of bushido throughout the story is hardly believable. However, the story is quite intense, and the cinematography will definitely remind you of a Kurosawa film.
Moreover, the game has some of the most beautiful sceneries ever presented in an open-world video game. The developers did an excellent job in showcasing the sharp contrast between the chaos of war and the serenity of nature. Ghost of Tsushima doesn’t disappoint in terms of gameplay either. The combat is more fluid than any Assassin’s Creed title, and in no point does the game feel repetitive.
2. Gravity Rush 2
There are several open-world games where you have access to superpowers, but Gravity Rush stands out from most of them. In this franchise, your character has access to gravity-altering powers. Simply put, you can manipulate the gravity around you to fall upwards or sideways instead of going straight down, defying the laws of physics. This way, you can technically fly or perform absurd stunts and of course, solve some ingenious puzzles.
Gravity Rush 2 improves upon the gameplay of the original title by introducing two new gravity styles. These styles are called Lunar and Jupiter. The former makes you lighter, increases your speed, and lets you jump higher. Meanwhile, the latter makes you heavy and is useful for combat.
3. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Wildlands
If you thought tactical shooters can’t feature open-world environments, think again. The Ghost Recon series is widely recognized for its engaging first and third-person shooters with some mild milsim aspects and some futuristic elements. Wildlands pushed the franchise to a new horizon with the introduction of an open-world map.
This game takes place in Bolivia, where you control a team of Ghosts. These are elite Tier 1 operators who are dropped behind enemy lines to take down dangerous terrorists or even stop wars. In this game, you’ll have to dismantle a ruthless and inhuman cartel with covert guerilla operations. The order in which you take down this organization is entirely up to you, and there’s a lot of customization in terms of weapons, outfits, and even equipment.
4. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
There’s no doubt that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the best superhero video games of all time. Insomniac has already won the hearts of both Spider-Man fans as well as open-world game fans with the predecessors—Marvel’s Spider-Man and Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. With Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, several aspects of the previous games were improved. So, you can play as Peter and Miles, and there’s even a small sequence where you can control Venom.
The symbiote plays a major role in the story, and the richly detailed New York map has been expanded further. This sequel adds some areas of Queens and Brooklyn, and the existing Manhattan Island gets a huge revamp courtesy of Kraven the Hunter and his mercenary army.
5. Infamous: Second Son
Here’s another superhero open-world game for PS Plus that’s part of a well-liked series. Infamous: Second Son continues where the original series left off as a standalone sequel. It introduces a new protagonist, one who can absorb the powers of other Conduits. Unlike Cole, you’re not restricted to electric powers. Instead, you can make use of smoke, neon, concrete, and even video.
There’s a morality system, much like the original Infamous games, which decides your endings. There are several choices you can make throughout the storyline, and your overall gameplay style decides the outcomes. You can explore the richly detailed city of Seattle and also complete several side activities.
6. Days Gone
Days Gone is a refreshing take on a post-apocalyptic zombie survival setting. You have a richly detailed open world to explore, and the narrative is set through the POV of a former biker. As such, your motorbike plays a major role in the game, and it can be used for both combat and exploration.
This genre is quite saturated, with decent competition from the likes of State of Decay 2 and The Last of Us. However, Days Gone has left its mark with its unique narrative, a different take on the zombies, and an intelligent AI. One of the most unique features is that there are two types of infected that you have to fend off, and you can often make these groups fight each other.
7. Shadow of the Colossus
The Shadow of the Colossus we’re talking about is the 2018 re-master and not the original 2005 title. This is the one you can play on PS Plus, and it’s one of the most unforgettable open-world experiences you’ll ever have. You can traverse the world, called the Forbidden Land, on foot or horseback. As the title suggests, you need to take down 16 different colossi, who are spread throughout this world.
Unlike most of the other games here, the Forbidden Land in Shadow of the Colossus is emptier. However, this isn’t a drawback, as it’s intentional and the game relies on minimalism. Since you’re returned to a central point every time you slay a colossus, travel is a big aspect of the gameplay.
8. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
With CDPR’s announcement of The Witcher 4, there has been some newfound excitement for this beloved RPG series. Now, if you want to experience Sapkowski’s unique high fantasy setting in an open-world video game, The Witcher 3 is your best bet. There’s no doubt that it has one of the most engaging narratives in a modern-day RPG. It also has a stunning, believable, open world, with one of the best depictions of a medieval high fantasy city.
The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt concludes Geralt’s story in a cathartic manner. It also features the trademark branching narrative structure of the franchise. Combat, customization, and exploration are all quite rewarding, and the massive free graphical upgrade that CDPR added makes it seem quite modern in 2025.
