When matched with Muzan for a battle, the main antagonist of the show, Yoriichi was able to not only keep up, but he fought so valiantly that it was the first time that Muzan was terrified of losing. Moreover, he was able to bring that fear to the most powerful demon and even did some irreparable damage to the Demon King.
Yoriichi was also humble and kind, and his sense of morals was very high as a warrior. He never sought fame or wealth and only wanted to make sure he could remove the face of every demon from his world and protect humanity.
2. The Creator of the Sun Breathing Style
During Yoriichi’s battle with Muzan, he instinctively ended up mastering the Sun Breathing Style. Unlike others who have trained for years to develop and work on different breathing styles, Yoriichi was able to perfect it during a battle itself.
The Sun Breathing Style efficiently targets an opponent’s weak points and closely connects to the ritual dance called Hinokami Kagura, which the Kamado family passes down through generations. This technique mimics the movement of the sun, granting its wielder immense power, precision, and impact.
In the future, it became the foundation for all other styles, including Water, Flame, Wind, Thunder, and Stone Breathing. Yoriichi was able to reach its 13th form, which is a combination of the 12 forms the Sun breathing style has.
3. The Only Marked Slayer to Live Past 25
Yoriichi Tsugikuni had the demon slayer mark. This mark allowed the user to awaken their powers, and it enhanced their abilities to another level. It means that the Demon Slayer has reached their peak potential. However, along with this great power, there also came a curse. Anyone who would Awaken a demon slayer mark would not live past the age of 25.
Yoriichi was the only exception, as he was born with the mark. Since it had never happened before, it was like he was destined for greatness. He was the only one to whom the curse did not affect, and he lived till he was old with his powers still intact. It was as if the heavens had plans for him to be the strongest, unparalleled demon slayer of all time.
4. Yoriichi is related to the strongest Upper Moon demon
The feats Yoriichi Tsugikuni had achieved in his life, generated jealousy from someone close to him. It was his elder twin brother, Michikatsu. Since Michikatsu lacked the Demon Slayer Mark, he was treated as a second priority in his family and was constantly reminded that he could never match his brother’s power. This difference in strength made Michikastu grow jealous of his younger sibling, and a dark cloud grew over their relationship.
Yoriichi looked up to his older twin brother, but those feelings were never reciprocated as Michikatsu’s heart no longer had any compassion or love towards his younger brother.
When Muzan gave him an option, Michikatsu gave up his humanity and chose to become a demon to feel more powerful than his brother. This act saddened Yoriichi and disturbed him. Yet, till the end, he never stopped loving his brother.
During their last encounter, Yoriichi had already reached old age. Therefore, Michikatsu won by default as Yoriichi died of natural causes. This is one of the saddest events in the all-powerful Yoriichi’s life.
5. His Tragic Personal Life
Yoriichi was once married to the love of his life, Uta. Regardless of him being a powerful demon slayer, he only wanted to live a simple and peaceful life. Uta and Yoriichi found each other and lived peacefully. Uta also had gotten pregnant with Yoriichi’s baby.
Unfortunately, tragedy struck in Yoriichi Tsugikuni’s life when one day, when Uta was ready to give birth, he went to search for a midwife. When he came back, he was horrified to find that a demon had killed Uta and his unborn child.
After this, his life completely changed, he became full of sorrow and grieved for his family every day. Yoriichi never remarried. This incident always reminded him of the cost he had to pay for choosing to become a Demon Slayer, and this event reinforced his determination to wipe out demons, ensuring that no one else would have to endure such cruelty.
6. The Man Who Almost Killed Muzan
Yoriichi is known to be a one-man army. He was the only one who singlehandedly came close to killing Muzan. The damage that he did to the Demon King could never be cured.

Kamado’s family ensured that Sun Breathing was never truly forgotten. His legacy could also be the fear that ended up growing strong roots in Muzan’s heart. They even created a training Doll (Yoriichi Type Zero) that looked just like him. The makers needed to add 6 arms to the model as two of them were not enough to replicate the swift movements that Yoriichi performed.

In a final battle with Kokushibo, Yoriichi Tsugikuni nearly defeated him in a single strike, proving that his skill had not faded over time. Tragically, Yoriichi died standing up, just moments before he could finish off Kokushibo. His unwavering strength and determination were so overwhelming that even in death, he remained a terrifying presence to his enemies. Kokushibo, despite having become a powerful demon, admitted that he never surpassed his brother.
