Palworld, the base-building survival crafting game by Pocket Pair, allows players to explore the world of Palpagos Island. However, they must befriend and battle mysterious Pokemon-like creatures called ‘Pals” on the island. Upon capture, these Pals are used for various purposes, ranging from performing mundane tasks at your base to serving as a mount for traversing the island.

Additionally, they have the crucial role of protecting your base from various threats such as enemy factions and wild Pals. Assigning the right Pals to guard your base is essential. Here are some of the best Pals that can defend your base effectively in Palworld.

1) Astegon

Astegon is considered one of the best base-defending Pals. This flying Dark/Dragon element Pal has high health, attack, and defense stats. It can deal drastic AoE damage by combining its Dark and Dragon attacks.

Astegon’s flying ability makes it more deadly when facing multiple melee-based enemies. When Firefist Breathstorm, the exclusive skill of Astegon, combined with Dark Laser and Dragon Meteor, becomes a nightmare for the raiding foes. 

2) Anubis

Anubis, a ground element Pal, is an all-rounder in Palworld. This melee combat expert fits the close combat gap left by Astegon. Anubis is an expert in combat, mining, crafting, and defense, making it one of the most reliable Pals in the entire game.

When approached by a number of enemies in close combat, Anubis annihilates them with its high-damage special AoE attacks such as Spinning Roundhouse and Ground Smash. No invader can escape from this ground element Pal, as its Forceful Charge can pursue and finish them off. 

3) Jormuntide Ignis

Jormuntide Ignis is a flying Dragon/Fire element Pal, possessing a massive attack power. This Pal has some best AoE attacks in both Dragon and Fire elements, which annihilates multiple enemies at close range. Jormuntide Ignis can also perform lightning strikes with its Tri-Lightning skill.

Its Fire Ball and Dragon Meteor can wipe out nearby enemies within no time. To get a Jormuntide Ignis, players first breed Nitewing with a Helzephyr, which produces Jormuntide. Then breed Jormuntide with a Blazehowl to get the Jormuntide Ignis.

4) Mossanda

Mossanda is a panda-like Grass element Pal. This mid-game Pal can serve as a tank during battles, allowing other Pals to launch attacks on targets. With some extraordinary AoE attacks, such as Solar Blast, this aggressive panda-like Pal crushes multiple enemies at close distance.

Similar to Anubis, Mossanda’s Spine Vine chases retreating enemies and makes sure no invaders escape alive. Additionally, it can perform Stone Cannon, a ground-based attack that digs and throws boulders at enemies.

5) Depresso

Depresso is an early-game Dark element Pal, which is found during nighttime at the Plateau Of the Beginning. As a nocturnal Pal, it continues to work both day and night without getting tired. The nocturnal nature of the Pal makes it vigilant and alerts ally Pals when there is any threat. 

Although not powerful like the previous Pals, Depresso is a reliable base defender, especially during the early game. Its mastery in Handiwork, allows the Pal to manage the defense structures efficiently.
