When Did GTA 5 Come Out?

GTA 5 came out in 2013, more than a decade ago at this point. Considered one of the best video games of all time (a tag we wholeheartedly concur with), it is second on the best-selling video games of all time. Its reported sales figure and all-time revenue are over 205 million copies and $8.5 billion, respectively.

And more than ten years down the line, GTA 5 still manages to attract players consistently, largely thanks to GTA Online. The game’s current 24-hour concurrent player peak on Steam is 194,705 at the time of writing, comfortably sitting at the seventh spot in the top 10.

GTA 5 PS, Xbox, PC Release Dates

GTA 5 was released on September 17, 2013, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One ports arrived on November 18, 2014. The game finally launched on PC on April 14, 2015. The current-gen consoles received GTA 5 on March 15, 2022.

The wait it took for the game to arrive on PC will likely instigate some players in the community to invest in a console before GTA 6 arrives. The next title in the series is scheduled to arrive sometime in Fall 2025. Whatever we know for now regarding the game arrived in the form of GTA 6 Trailer 1 in 2023.

2024 largely saw not a peep or a squeak from Rockstar Games. The community spent the time poring over each frame of the first trailer and other directly unrelated posts from official accounts and devs. The rumor mill churned out the moon theory to guess when the next trailer would arrive and the 27 theory to speculate Trailer 2 would drop on December 27, 2024.

Irrespective of when the next trailer launches and whether the game gets delayed or releases on schedule, GTA 6 has a long list of expectations to live up to. With each passing year, what we expect of the most anticipated video game title in recent memory increases manifold. Given the impact of GTA 5 and its longevity, Rockstar Games has a mountain to climb with GTA 6, and one that we suspect they will do nevertheless.
