Naruto Uzumaki is one of the most popular figures in the anime industry. Many fans accompanied Naruto on his journey to become the Hokage since their own childhoods. Although the beloved hero managed to get his happy ending at the end of Naruto: Shippuden, he met a terrible fate by the end of the sequel Boruto: Naruto Next Generations series. Since then, fans have been on the edge about the fate of their favorite character, leading some to question – Does Boruto kill Naruto?

To answer the question in brief – no, Boruto certainly did not kill his own father, Naruto Uzumaki. In fact, Naruto is not even dead. However, that’s not to say that his life isn’t in grave danger, especially since Kawaki sealed both Naruto and Hinata in the Daikokuten dimension. He did this to protect Naruto from the threat posed by Momoshiki as well as to ensure that the Seventh Hokage did not interfere in his plan of killing his brother, Boruto Uzumaki.

At the end of Boruto: Naruto Next Generations, Kawaki revealed his plan to his foster parents, Naruto and Hinata, of getting rid of Boruto in order to protect Naruto from the threat posed by Momoshiki, who resided in Boruto’s body.

To ensure that they do not interfere with his plan, Kawaki sealed both of them away in the Daikokuten dimension, claiming that he was prepared to face their wrath later on. In this dimension, time doesn’t flow, which meant that there was no immediate danger to Naruto and Hinata’s lives. In a way, Kawaki was preserving his foster parents inside the Daikokuten dimension.

This shocking turn of events certainly caught many fans off-guard. However, those who initially believed that Naruto would meet his end by Boruto Part 1, were certainly relieved to know that he was simply sealed away instead of being killed in battle.

In the current timeline of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex, about three years has passed, and Naruto is still sealed away in the Daikokuten dimension along with his wife, Hinata. His absence from the series certainly casts a dark shadow over the narrative.

Currently, its unclear as to when Naruto would make his return in the Boruto series. However, he will most certainly be in great peril once he is released from the Daikokuten dimension, especially due to the ongoing chaotic events of the Two Blue Vortex series and the fact that he is significantly weaker than before.

Why People Think Boruto Killed Naruto

After Kawaki sealed away Naruto and Hinata, he immediately went after Boruto and tried to kill him. After an unsuccessful attempt at assassinating Boruto, Kawaki was forced to run away after the entire village of Konoha started hunting him for harming the Seventh Hokage.

This is precisely the point of time when Eida decides to interfere and help Kawaki. Using the power of her Omnipotence, Eida switched everyone’s memory of Kawaki and his history with Boruto, thereby making everyone believe that Kawaki was the legitimate son of Naruto and that Boruto was the one who killed him.

As such, the people of Konoha, including Boruto’s friends, believed that Boruto was actually the one who harmed Naruto. With the entirety of Konoha now on the hunt for him, Boruto was driven to a corner. Fortunately, he ended up being rescued by Sasuke Uchiha, following which they both left the village. From thereon, Sasuke became a reliable mentor to Boruto and taught him everything he knew in about a year’s worth of time.

Why Did Kawaki Seal Naruto and Hinata?

At the end of Boruto Part 1, Kawaki sealed Naruto and Hinata for two reasons. One was to protect Naruto from the members of the Otsutsuki clan, especially since Naruto became weaker after losing the powers of Kurama. The other reason was to ensure that neither Naruto nor Hinata could interfere with his plan of wiping out all members of the Otsutsuki clan, Boruto Uzumaki.

In other words, Kawaki’s decision to seal away Naruto and Hinata was not born out of malice or hatred. Instead, it was due to a warped sense of love and devotion towards Naruto, who Kawaki viewed as his savior. In contrast to the emotional and physical abuse he suffered at the hands of Jigen, Naruto treating Kawaki as his own son and showering him with the love and affection of a parent resulted in Kawaki becoming incredibly attached to Naruto.

As such, after Naruto lost the powers of the Nine-Tailed Beast, Kawaki took it upon himself to keep his father out of harm’s way. In order to do that, he would need to wipe out every single Otsutsuki from existence. This includes killing Momoshiki Otsutsuki as well, who currently resides inside the body of Boruto Uzumaki.

Although he certainly harbors a certain amount of love for Boruto as a brother, Kawaki is prepared to go to extreme lengths to ensure Naruto’s safety, even if it means killing his son, Boruto Uzumaki. In his mind, Kawaki reassured himself that sealing away Naruto and Hinata was for their own good, especially since there was a high chance of Momoshiki taking over Boruto and killing them one day.

Will Naruto Return to Boruto: Two Blue Vortex?

Although things may seem bleak at the moment, Naruto’s return is imminent. While there’s no actual way of telling when it will happen, we can assume that he will likely be “unsealed” after the fated final showdown between Boruto and Kawaki.

In that case, Naruto’s return will likely occur sometime in the Two Blue Vortex series. This also means that to unseal Naruto, Kawaki needs to be taken down. This does not necessarily indicate that Boruto needs to kill Kawaki to free his parents. Rather, he must defeat and bring his brother back to his senses.

Naruto’s Relevance in the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex

While the focus of the Boruto series’ narrative has moved on from Naruto Uzumaki, his influence on the overarching narrative is undeniable. In fact, Naruto’s absence shaped the events of Two Blue Vortex in the first place.

Therefore, fans can rest assured that in spite of his absence, Naruto’s relevance to the narrative will never diminish. Moreover, the endgame of the Two Blue Vortex series will likely be Naruto and Hinata’s unsealing, an event which fans cannot wait to witness.

Conclusion

Naruto Uzumaki’s journey from an orphaned outcast to the Seventh Hokage is special to many people worldwide. The focus of the narrative in the Boruto series shifted to the next generation of shinobi. Regardless, Naruto’s presence remains a driving force in the narrative.
