Twitch streamer Shroud paused his Fragathon event indefinitely due to the Los Angeles wildfires that broke out on January 8, 2025.
Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek started a month-long charity event he dubbed the “Fragathon” in honor of his late father. The event that started on January 4, 2025, is now on hold due to wildfires in Los Angeles. The streamer said the event will resume as soon as possible.
On January 8, 2025, more than 70,000 people evacuated Los Angeles due to an abrupt wildfire. Over 1,000 buildings were destroyed, primarily in the Pacific Palisades neighbourhood. Mayor Karen Bass directed Los Angeles citizens affected by the incident to an emergency shelter.
Shroud had a LAN party setup at his house so other streamers could participate in the Fragathon event. The streamer also has a large support crew to track donations and manage the event. Shroud will pause the event until further notice to ensure participants and crew members are safe.
Shroud Pauses the Fragathon Event Indefinitely
Shroud revealed that he does not have power at his house. To ensure the production crew and guests stay safe, he paused the event indefinitely. The streamer said:
“Putting a quick pause on the Fragathon stream. We lost power and the storm is still really bad. With road closures and fires, we need to ensure everyone stays safe including production and guests. Sorry gamers, we’ll be back as soon as we can!”
The event raised over $100,000 in five days for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The streamer did not say when the event will return or if he will extend its duration because of the unforeseen incident.
What Is the Fragathon Event?
Shroud posted a video on X on January 4, 2025, saying he is hosting a special subathon. When most streamers host subathons, they extend the timer of their stream when they receive a donation or subscription. In Shroud’s event, each elimination that the streamer or a participating member gets contributes a dollar to charity.
He said in his announcement:
“I am inviting all my friends to come by and donate frags in person at a LAN center I am building in my house. There’s also going to be IRL events and challenges that will add to the counter when we are not gaming.”
The streamer said that 100% of the proceeds from fans during the event will also go to charity. When the community reaches certain milestones, the $1 multiplier can go up, but the streamer did not explain the system in detail yet. The streamer played Marvel Rivals, and his friend Timothy “Syncedez” Putro covered for him when he was sleeping during the first week of the event.
