YouTube streamer Darren “iShowSpeed” Watkins Jr. reportedly donated $10,000 to help Los Angeles’ wildfire victims. The city is experiencing a wildfire that forced over 70,000 citizens to evacuate or head to emergency shelters. Multiple content creators had to pause their content after being affected by the ongoing crisis.

The wildfire broke out on January 8, 2025, and damaged or destroyed over 9,000 structures. News outlets reported at least 10 fire-related deaths, and the Los Angeles Sheriff said that the death toll is expected to rise.

iShowSpeed, who recently hosted a Red Dead Redemption 2 marathon, contributed $10,000 to the Los Angeles County Wildfire Fund. The fund was launched in 1915 to help citizens amidst wildfires. Other charity organizations like the Red Cross, World Central Kitchen, and California Fire Foundation are also collecting donations to help the victims.

Is iShowSpeed Affected by the Wildfire?

iShowSpeed lives in Cincinnati, Ohio. The streamer’s state was not affected by the wildfire, but many other content creators had to relocate or pause their content amidst the disaster.

Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek, who lives in Los Angeles, launched a subathon for charity on January 4, 2025, but he had to put the event on hold. The streamer had planned to host LAN parties with other creators and had a production crew on standby. He paused the event indefinitely to ensure his crew and guests’ safety. After the wildfires started, he said:

“Putting a quick pause on the Fragathon stream. We lost power and the storm is still really bad. With road closures and fires, we need to ensure everyone stays safe including production and guests. Sorry gamers, we’ll be back as soon as we can!”

Lily “LilyPichu” Ki also lives in Los Angeles and had to evacuate her house. She said in a tweet:

“The fire is insane. I’ve evacuated and could only grab my dogs and passport. This is truly frightening and I hope everyone stays safe out there.”

Other Content Creators Affected by the Fire

Streamers Maxwell “plaqueboymax” Elliot Dent and Cameron “cuffem” Jordan are also in Los Angeles. Plaqueboymax refused to evacuate his house during a livestream, while Cuffem was looking for someone to help him evacuate.

While iShowSpeed donated money for the wildfires, other streamers stepped in to help themselves. Political commentator Hasan Piker had to help fellow streamers Will Neff and Caroline Kwan evacuate their houses. He later updated that he was safe and outside the evacuation area.
