The online scene has centered around streamers, content creators, and YouTubers for a while. These online personalities are regarded as celebrities and have a huge influence on various trends and happenings around social media. While many have accumulated millions of fans, some have often found themselves embroiled in various controversies and allegations. These allegations also include potential scams and frauds.

This article will focus on five such streamers/content creators who were accused of scamming their fans.

Here Are 5 Streamers Who Were Accused Of Scamming

1) IShowSpeed

Back in October 2022, one of internet’s biggest stars – Darren “IShowSpeed” – found himself in a lot of backlash after promoting a seemingly shady crypto project called Paradox Metaverse. The controversy took place when he was in the UK in late 2022 and was invited to host a stream with the founders of Paradox.

During the stream, Darren promoted the crypto project. Soon afterward though, netizens and other creators figured out that the project was similar to a Ponzi scheme (affiliate marking strategy). Speed has since dissociated with the project and even issued an apology for his association with the Paradox team.

2) Wantep

Twitch streamer Wantep, who also moderates Mizkif’s streams, revealed that he promoted a cryptocurrency called “Chompy Coin” during a recent stream with Mizkif. Chompy Coin is named after Mizkif’s pet cat. This story is trending on social media today, January 23, 2025.

Wantep allegedly engaged in a “rug pull” scheme involving cryptocurrency. This involves artificially inflating the coin’s price and then quickly selling the streamer’s holdings, causing the coin’s value to plummet. This leaves investors with a significantly devalued or worthless asset. Wantep reportedly made a profit of $28,000 from this incident.

3) Jack Doherty

Jack Doherty, a Kick streamer, has been involved in several controversies, including allegations of a “pump and dump” scheme. During a live stream, he pretended to research investment opportunities but ended up promoting a coin he allegedly created himself.

The coin in question was called “McLaren/SOL on Raydium.” Doherty invested in it during his livestream, encouraging his viewers to do the same. This influx of investment caused the coin’s value to spike. However, Doherty abruptly ended the stream shortly after, which many viewers interpreted as confirmation of a rug pull, as he sold his holdings at a significant profit.

4) Logan Paul

Logan Paul, although not a streamer in the typical sense of the word, is the penultimate name on the list. He launched Crypto Zoo, a blockchain-based game featuring non-fungible tokens (NFTs) representing various virtual animals. The game faced significant backlash and accusations of a scam due to numerous issues.

YouTuber Stephen “Coffeezilla” made an elaborate investigation on the project and accused Paul and his team of never finishing the project, meaning the investors could not have their money back. Since then, Paul has pledged to return a part of the money to the investors, however, no concrete report of the refund has ever been provided.

5) Boogie2988

YouTuber and streamer Steven “Boogie2988” found himself embroiled in controversy in July 2023 when he was accused of promoting a cryptocurrency scam. He launched a coin named Faddy Coin on June 27, 2024, but by the following day, it had lost a staggering 90% of its value.

Following the controversy surrounding Faddy Coin, Boogie2988 faced significant backlash from the online community. He issued a public apology, expressing remorse for the losses incurred by his viewers. In his statement, he hinted at taking further action, suggesting potentially compensating affected investors.
