Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is easily one of the most graphically impressive turn-based RPGs out there. Developed by Sandfall Interactive, Clair Obscur is a turn-based RPG in the same vein as Persona or the recently released Metaphor ReFantazio. However, its presentation is quite different from what you would expect from a classic turn-based game. The game is built using Unreal Engine 5, which explains the mix of stylized art style and photorealism within its visual presentation.

Furthermore, instead of relying on a baked-in lighting solution, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 uses ray tracing for global illumination. Due to its RT implementation, the game certainly looks incredible.

However, the visuals come at the cost of higher system requirements, even for a current-gen title. Thankfully, based on the game’s official specifications list, it seems to be quite scalable. Here’s everything you need to know about Clair Obscur Expedition 33’s PC system requirements, file size, and more.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 is built using Unreal Engine 5.1. Much like any other Unreal Engine 5 game, Clair Obscur is incredibly demanding in terms of VRAM and CPU resources. However, since it’s not an open-world game, Clair Obscur’s CPU requirements are relatively on the lower side compared to other recent UE5.1 games.

That said, the game does require plenty of VRAM as well as GPU horsepower to support its ambitious visuals. The minimum GPU requirement is a GTX 1070 Ti or RX Vega 56 equivalent. Both these GPUs are mid-range 8 GB cards that will get you up to 30 fps at 1080p resolution, with the Low settings preset in Clair Obscur Expedition 33.

As for the game’s recommended GPU specifications, it’s an RTX 3070 or RX 6800 XT equivalent. Suffice it to say, that you will need a beefy GPU to play Sandfall Interactive’s upcoming RPG. That said, here’s a look at the minimum and recommended system requirements for Clair Obscur Expedition 33:

Minimum

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10
  • Processor: Intel Core i7-8700K / AMD Ryzen 5 1600X
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Ti 8GB / AMD Radeon RX Vega 56 8GB / Intel Arc A580 8GB

According to the game’s official system requirements, Clair Obscur Expedition 33 requires roughly 55 GB of storage space. Furthermore, given it’s a current-gen UE5 title, an SSD is mandatory for the game. Despite the game’s ambitious visuals and RPG roots, its file size is quite small, at least when compared to other UE5 games. For reference, Black Myth: Wukong, another recent UE5 title, weighs in at roughly 130 GB in terms of its file size.

Unreal Engine 5 games are usually within the 50–100 GB mark. Given the game’s small file size, it can be speculated that Sandfall Interactive has spent some time on optimization and compression, which is quite rare in the Triple-A landscape.
