The display of the Legion Go is part of the reason why the device has a cult following. The 8-inch 120Hz IPS LCD on the Legion Go S is a step up when it comes to the overall design. It supports up to 1920 by 1200 resolution, which can get very bright, much more than the competition. The small bezels make the display look much better than what the specs indicate.

The only issue with the display is that, reportedly, it may run into problems as games don’t support the 1920×1200 resolution natively. Thus, you may have to do some tweaks. That said, games also look great when running at a lower 720p resolution.

Lenovo Legion Go S Performance

Performance is one of the major points when considering any handheld. The Lenovo Legion Go S comes with an AMD Ryzen Z2 Go chip, 32 GB of RAM, and 1TB SSD storage. The Ryzen Z2 Go APU is built on the Zen3+ and RDNA 2 technology, with a 4-core, 8-thread configuration, with a base clock speed of 3.0GHz and 4.3GHz max boost clock speed.

The included RDNA 2 AMD Radeon Graphics is more energy-efficient since the Legion Go S comes with a longer battery life and a cheaper price. The device reportedly performs slower on heavier games compared to other handhelds and requires resolution to be turned down at higher frames.

The Legion Go S runs cooler and quieter due to running a more efficient chip. The ColdFront tech used by Lenovo keeps the Legion Go S cool and quiet even under heavy load.

Battery Life

The Legion Go S has a 55.5WHr battery. While the battery size is not remarkable, reportedly, it can run for up to 1 hour and 30 minutes on native settings and 120Hz. Among handhelds in this price range, it has a very standard battery life.

The device has support for rapid charging. It comes with a 65W USB-C charger. It can charge the device up to 90% in under an hour.

Design and Comfort

The Lenovo Legion Go S has considerably better ergonomics than its competitors and its predecessor, the Legion Go. It has flat-face buttons that are clicky and shallow, more grippy corners, and better button placement.

The L2 and R2 triggers on it have trigger locks that let the user set their respective actuation points. For playing FPS games, the trigger can be set to a shorter travel distance, and for racing games, it can be set to a longer travel distance.

Two programmable back buttons are placed behind the handheld where the middle fingers rest, which makes them more intuitive to use. The Hall effect joysticks provide a smooth and accurate feel.

The Legion Go S has a small touchpad located under the right joystick. While the size of the mousepad might leave a lot to be desired, reportedly it works better than it looks.

Overall, the Lenovo Legion Go S is a feature-rich, ergonomic portable. It has a good 120Hz 8-inch display and an easy-to-use launcher. The primary disadvantages of this handheld are its low performance and unoptimized Windows 11. However, if you are in the market for a small ergonomic gaming handheld, this is a good option.
