In Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii, one of the core aspects of gameplay is sailing the high seas. Along the way, you will also have to battle scores of scallywags and scoundrels alike.

Obviously, a ship can’t be steered by one man alone. And so it is that a crew of loyal supporters becomes necessary. Here is everything you need to know about your crew.

It is unclear how many crew members you will start off the game with. Some of the crew, however, are confirmed to be with you from the beginning. These  are Noah Rich, his father Jason, Masaru the ship’s cook, and Noah’s pet tiger Goro.

There are various ways to recruit new crew members. One of these is to complete tasks given to you by them to earn their loyalty. Some crewmates will require specific conditions like defeating someone at the Pirates’ Coliseum.

There are multiple ways to change your crew members. Whenever you are about to set sail from somewhere, you will have the option to change your crew. On the open seas, there are various safe zones where you will also have the option to change your crew.

Simply head to these safe zones and bring up the ‘prepare to sail’ menu. Here you are given the option to tailor your crew as you want. Additionally, at the Madlantis Pirates’ Coliseum, you will be able to adjust your crewmates before engaging in any battles.

Your crew mainly helps out in two ways. They can either help the Goromaru in firing and moving or assist you when you board the enemy ship in an all-out brawl.

This crew is split into two parts: the Cannon Squad and the Boarding Squad.

The Cannon Squad

The Cannon Squad are the people who operate the weapons aboard the ship. You can assign different people for the weapons on the starboard and port sides and on the two machine guns. Additionally, the Cannon Squad are also the ones who will repair your ship when it is damaged.

Each crewmate has stats assigned to their ability with the cannons or with repairing the ship. The higher the stat, the better they are at that job. The Cannon Squad also has the First Mate. The crewmate assigned as the First Mate will have a special ability that varies from one crewmate to another.

The Boarding Squad

The Boarding Squad, on the other hand, are the people who will join you in boarding an enemy’s ship during battle. Each crewmate has a different attack and defence stat alongside their cannon and repair stats. When part of the Boarding Squad, only the attack and defence stats will be taken into account.

The Boarding Squad is split into five squads. Four of the squads are combat squads, while the fifth is a support squad. You can assign 3 members to the support squad, and they will give you access to special Support Abilities which you can activate for an advantage during battle.

Each combat squad has a Squad Leader assigned to it. The Squad Leader, much like the First Mate, has a special ability unique to them. A crewmate has two special abilities that activate based on whether they are a Squad Leader or the First Mate.
