As Marvel Rivals comfortably settles into the gaming zeitgeist, players have slowly mastered its mechanics, maps, and heroes. With the game’s meta now seemingly set in stone, most players rely on the same few heroes, picking them in every map and every game. Whether they do so because they’re comfortable with the character or because the character is overpowered is irrelevant. With the same few heroes running riot on every map, the matches become monotonous.

To keep matches fresh and prevent the abuse of overpowered characters, Marvel Rivals introduces the Hero Ban system in the higher ranks. This ban, much as its name suggests, allows teams to ban specific heroes, keeping each match fresh. If you’re just making your way into the game’s higher ranks, this is a system you need to know about. In this guide, we shall go over the Hero Ban system in Marvel Rivals.

The Hero Ban System Explained

Marvel Rivals’ Hero Ban system allows a team to ban any two heroes of their choice in a competitive match. This system is currently only available in the competitive mode for diamond ranks and above.

When the match starts, each team has the choice to ban any two heroes of their choice. This means the players can ban up to four heroes in any competitive match. If both teams ban the same hero, both bans are used up for the same hero, leading to three heroes banned in the match. As it stands, you can ban anywhere between 2 to 4 heroes in any given competitive match.

Once the bans are confirmed, the banned heroes are removed from the hero pool and cannot be used in the competitive match. The ability to ban opens up new possibilities in competitive play. It allows you to ban overpowered heroes that you may struggle against. It also allows you to target-ban players. For instance, if you played against a team that utilizes a character really well and often and then match up against them again later, you can ban that character to hamper their strategy and make them easier to defeat. The bans are a great way to force the other team to adapt.
