Supergiant Games dropped a big update for Hades 2 on February 19, 2025. If you’re in Early Access, there’s a lot to check out. A new Olympian, a tough boss fight, and plenty of gameplay tweaks are here. Let’s dive into The Warsong Update and see why it’s worth jumping back in!

A Big Addition to the Surface Route

One of the biggest changes in this update is the final boss battle for the Surface route. If you’ve been making your way through Melinoe’s quest, you now have a major confrontation waiting for you at the summit of Mount Olympus. Supergiant Games is keeping the boss’s identity under wraps, so you have to experience the fight yourself to see who’s standing in your way.

Ares Joins the Fight

A new Olympian has entered the fray, and it’s none other than Ares, the God of War. If you enjoyed his Boons in the first Hades, you’re in for a treat. Ares offers some powerful new abilities for Melinoë, including:

  • Boosting her attack power.
  • Creating spinning blades after dashes or spell casts.
  • Inflicting a damage-over-time effect with Wound.

These Boons can change up your combat strategy significantly, so if you’re looking for more aggressive builds, Ares is your go-to.

Meet Gale the Polecat

Animal Familiars have been a fun addition to Hades 2, and now there’s another one to bond with. Gale the Polecat brings extra movement speed and a better dodge chance, making battles feel smoother and more fluid. If you like a fast-paced playstyle, Gale might be your new favorite companion.

Major Changes to Boons and Weapons

Supergiant Games has also tweaked some of the existing Boons, removing certain ones and introducing new options. If you’ve built strategies around specific abilities, you might need to adjust. Additionally, three Nocturnal weapons—Witch’s Staff, Argent Skull, and Black Coat—have been adjusted. Notably, Black Coat now enhances Omega Attack damage and allows Melinoë to Dash while channeling it, making Bonk Builds more effective than ever.

Visual and Audio Enhancements

This update isn’t just about combat—there are plenty of aesthetic changes too. The Altar of Ashes has received new and improved artwork, the UI has been cleaned up, and over 2,000 new voice lines have been added. There’s even a singing minigame at the Crossroads, adding another layer of charm to the experience.

What’s Next for Hades 2?

Supergiant Games has confirmed that a third major update is already in the works, though there’s no word yet on when Hades 2 will leave Early Access.

“…we’re not finished yet, and have already made plans for our third Major Update, which we intend to deliver some months from now.”

The first game stayed in early development for nearly two years, so if the sequel follows a similar path, a full release might be expected in 2026. Until then, the developers are listening to player feedback and making adjustments to create the best possible version of the game.

If you need a reason to dive back into Hades 2, The Warsong Update delivers. Ares joins the fight, bringing his own deadly Boons. There’s a fierce new boss, fresh upgrades, and even an adorable Familiar to help you out. Whether you’re mastering Ares’ power or tackling the Surface route’s final test, there’s plenty to sink your teeth into. And with another update on the way, the Underworld’s not done with you yet!
