Twitch temporarily banned Hasan “HasanAbi” Piker’s account after he made controversial comments about United States Senator Rick Scott. The streamer was reacting to a statement by U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Mike Johnson on February 28, 2025. Johnson stated that the U.S. government wants to crack down on Medicare and Medicaid health insurance fraud.

HasanAbi claimed that if Republicans cared about Medicare fraud or Medicaid fraud, they would “kill Rick Scott.” The streamer said that Scott wouldn’t have become a prominent member of the Republican Party or the former governor of Florida if the U.S. government wanted to address fraud. Hasan was likely referring to Scott’s 14 convictions in 1997 for over $1.7 billion in fraud.

The streamer apologized for his comments on X and YouTube and said he should have chosen his words better. The ban is temporary, but the streamer did not reveal when he will return to Twitch.

HasanAbi’s Controversial Statements About Rick Scott

During a recent livestream, HasanAbi was criticizing the U.S. government’s actions. He said:

“If Republicans cared about medicare fraud or Medicaid fraud, you would kill Rick Scott! Okay? You wouldn’t make Rick Scott, former governor of Florida, Rick Scott, you wouldn’t make him a prominent part of the Republican Party.”

Clips from his stream went viral, with many internet users condemning Hasan’s comments on an elected U.S. official. Twitch banned the streamer on March 3, 2025. He apologized to his viewers on X, saying:

“im sorry! ill choose my words carefully next time & say “if mike johnson cares abt medicare fraud (since he wants to cut 800m from medicaid/medicare) he’d call for MAX PUNISHMENT for current fl gop senator/former gov rick scott- who has done the most medicare fraud in us history!”

A US Senator Previously Called Out Hasan

This is not the first time that Hasan has called out a government official. His comments on the Israel-Palestine conflict attracted a congressional letter to Twitch and Amazon in 2024. U.S. Senator Ritchie Torres sent the letter stating:

“Hasan Piker, who has described Orthodox Jews as “inbred” and a Jewish man as a “bloodthirsty pig,” is the antisemitic voice of a systemically antisemitic platform led by Dan Clancy. The time has come to hold Hasan Piker and Dan Clancy accountable.”

The streamer did not apologize for his pro-Palestinian sentiments and allegedly called Torres a “psychopath.” Torres responded to the streamer, saying:

“Hasan Piker calls me an “insane” and “vicious” “monster” and “psychopath” because I exposed him for justifying the insane and vicious monsters and psychopaths who barbarically r*ped Israeli women on October 7th.”

HasanAbi actively supports Palestine and has raised over $1 million for humanitarian causes. Some internet users and content creators like Zack “Asmongold” Hoyt and Ethan Klein criticize Hasan’s pro-Palestinian sentiments and his criticism of the Israeli government.
