Everything you need to know about the Volbaino in The First Berserker Khazan, including tips on how to easily defeat it and more.

Volbaino is one of the early-game bosses in The First Berserker and one that can prove to be quite a roadblock. While the Volbaino isn’t technically more challenging than the Viper or even the Blade Phantom, it does dish out tremendous amounts of damage, which makes it a force to be reckoned with. Furthermore, Volbaino also inflicts Fire elemental status with its attacks and has access to quite a large assortment of area-of-effect (AOE) attacks. All this combined, makes the Volbaino a genuinely difficult boss, even if you’re experienced with souls-likes. Thankfully, the Volbaino does have quite a few weaknesses that you can exploit to get an upper hand on the boss.
Here’s everything you need to know about the Volbaino in The First Berserker Khazan, and how you can easily defeat it.
How To Unlock Volbaino in The First Berserker Khazan?

The Volbaino is a main story boss and one that is mandatory to progress through the game’s campaign. The boss unlocks at the end of Mission 4 and serves as the final boss of the quest. Volbaino is essentially a giant humanoid ox-like creature that wields a hammer and a chisel. According to Elamein, Volbaino used to be a friendly figure among the denizens of Phrague Village. However, once the Dragonkin invaded the village, Volbaino was taken prisoner and endlessly tortured. The torment and pain of being tortured turned the creature into a frenzied beast. And hence, it has come to Khazan, i.e., the players, to put a stop to the beast’s rampage.
In terms of its movesets, Volbaino is quite similar to the Viper, where it mostly has swipe attacks, which it combos into either jump or slash attacks. However, unlike the Viper, Volbaino’s usual suite of attacks includes multi-hit combos. The combos range from 3-hit jump attacks to 7-hit slash attack combos. Furthermore, Volbaino also regularly performs burst attacks, which can deal massive amounts of damage. In addition to all this, once the boss’s health drops 10%, it imbues the chisel in flames.
From this point onward, every attack and combo chain of the Volbaino deals Fire damage as well. Although Fire isn’t nearly as lethal as Poison, it still can deal a ton of passive damage, especially if you have low Vigor (HP).
How To Easily Defeat the Volbaino

The Volbaino is admittedly quite intimidating, and rightfully so. After all, it’s the final boss of what is essentially the early-game section of The First Berserker Khazan. However, as is the case with most bosses in The First Berserker, or any souls-like game for that matter, the Volbaino has plenty of weaknesses that you can exploit. Firstly, the boss is extremely easy to stagger, which is going to come in incredibly handy for the strategy we’re going to employ. Furthermore, the arena where you fight Volbaino offers plenty of room to out-maneuver the boss’s AOE attacks. In addition to that, most of Volbaino’s attacks are quite easy to parry, even the burst combos.
The primary strategy here will be to parry Volbaino’s attacks until the boss comes to a rest. Once the boss is stationary, hit it with a full combo or Spirit attacks to whittle down its Fortitude gauge. Once the Volbaino starts to engulf the floor in flames, unlock from the boss and move to the upper platform. Repeat this process a couple of times to defeat the Volbaino in no time.
Tips To Defeat the Volbaino

Here are some tips that should help you easily defeat the Volbaino:
- For the Volbaino boss fight, we highly recommend using either the Dual Wield or the Greatsword. This is due to two major factors. Firstly, since we’re going to be staying close to the boss, the Spear’s range isn’t going to be of any use. Secondly, both Dual Wield and Greatsword offer incredibly high stagger potential with their combos.
- Always start the battle with at least 4 Spirit charges. If you don’t have any spare Spirit charges, you can acquire a few via the Training Arena or by simply killing mobs close to the boss’ Nexus.
- All of Volbaino’s attacks have a long wind-up animation. As such, you don’t want to spam the block button; instead, press it in short intervals to easily parry most of the Volbaino’s attacks. For the burst attack, wait till you see a slight white outline around the burst counter glyph, and then press Circle or B.
- Parrying and countering Volbaino’s attacks will easily break its stagger gauge and offer you a free opportunity to dish out damage even before the boss imbues the chisel in flames. We highly recommend stocking up on Vitality Spheres to help recover stamina during the boss fight.
- When you see the Volbaino smashing the chisel on the ground, it’s your cue to unlock the camera and move to the upper platform. Again, when the boss tries to engulf the upper platform in flames, immediately unlock the camera and run to the lower platform.
- You can carry a few Fire Resistance potions to aid you against the boss. However, those aren’t really necessary. You can get rid of the Fire/Burning status by dodging a few times.
