Is Might Guy dead in Boruto? Discover the fate of Konoha’s prideful Green Beast and his role in the sequel series.

Might Guy’s influence on the Naruto franchise and the anime world in general, is undeniable. To this day, fans remember him as one of the best teachers in the world of anime, which says a lot, considering the wide roster of anime mentors that exist today. Apart from his student, Rock Lee, he’s a shining example of the notion that hard work can surpass natural talent.
Creating such an impactful and inspirational character was undoubtedly one of the most impressive things Masashi Kishimoto did with Naruto, only for the Boruto series to come along and completely undo it all. Given that the new generation of shinobi took the central stage in the sequel series, many even started wondering — did the Boruto series kill Might Guy off?
Fortunately, Boruto didn’t desecrate the Naruto series’ legacy by killing Might Guy off. But the truth is, with how diminished his presence is in the show, Guy might as well be dead from a storytelling perspective.
Might Guy’s Fate After the Fourth Great Ninja War

To address the most important query once again: no, Might Guy is not dead in Boruto. Well, at least not in the literal sense. His earth-shattering fight against Madara Uchiha in the Fourth Great Ninja War left him permanently crippled. He had burned out his body by opening the Eight Gate of Death, which almost sealed his fate as well. Fortunately, Naruto’s Sage of the Six Paths powers saved his life, but by that point, the damage to his body was irreversible.
Thus, Might Guy — the unstoppable taijutsu god we all knew and loved — was effectively gone. After the war, he became bound to a wheelchair, with his former strength now being a part of history books. However, Guy surviving the war after opening all Eight Gates was a miracle in itself.
As such, many fans chose to find solace in the fact that their beloved character was still alive, while others saw it as the series slowly sidelining one of its most impactful and popular characters to the background.
Might Guy’s Role in Boruto

Might Guy’s role or significance in Boruto: Naruto Next Generations isn’t much to speak of. Quite frankly, his presence in the show is a joke — in a literal sense. He was reduced to a mere comic relief, as he only showed up for random moments where he either overreacted to something or had minor interactions with his longtime friend/rival, Kakashi Hatake.
Fans have been complaining about his insignificant role in Boruto for quite some time. They claimed that the plot required him to be sidelined, so that the new generation could shine. In fact, one of the biggest criticisms of Boruto is how it handles legendary characters like Kakashi, Sasuke, and sometimes even Naruto himself. So, Guy’s treatment in the show isn’t really a surprise to anyone anymore. But then again, his case is arguably worse than the others.
Unlike Kakashi or Sasuke, who still have a role to play in the series, Guy is kind of just there, with even his sporadic appearances feeling like fan service. Sure, there’s not much he could do except impart wisdom and inspire the new generation of shinobi, but he doesn’t even get to do that for the most part.
Did Boruto Waste Might Guy’s Character?

As much as we would like to tell ourselves otherwise or sugarcoat the truth, there’s really no other option than to look at the harsh reality — Boruto completely wasted Might Guy’s character by pushing him further into irrelevancy. After the events of the war, it became painfully obvious to everyone — now that he’s crippled for life, Guy was indeed going to be pushed to the sidelines. However, Boruto took things a bit further by making his character completely irrelevant.
At the very least, Boruto could have depicted him as something more than just a retired war hero. Alongside Iruka, he could have become a prominent mentor to the new generation, guiding and inspiring other taijutsu specialists.
After all, this is a man who went toe-to-toe against the Ghost of the Uchiha and even came close to beating him all by himself. This climactic battle did leave him disabled for life, but surely there must have been other ways to have him contribute to the story more in Boruto.
If Kishimoto was always going to reduce the iconic Might Guy to this level, he might as well have let him die a hero’s death against Madara. Understandably, the time had come to shift the focus from the old generation to the new generation of shinobi, but there’s a way to balance both generations, which is something Boruto fails to do.
How Boruto Could Have Done Justice to Might Guy’s Character

One way to make Guy more prominent in Boruto without taking the spotlight away from the younger generation was to have him mentor Rock Lee’s son, Metal Lee. After all, Guy’s relationship with Rock Lee was one of the most memorable aspects of Naruto. Why not continue the legacy with Metal Lee?
The anime could have also dedicated a filler episode to Guy, which could have explored his psychological struggle with his disability. After all, the war took from him his ability to fight, which is something that defined his entire life. So, having even a single episode focus on Guy’s mental struggles could have added more depth to his character, especially since he still somehow maintains his upbeat personality on the outside.
It’s a bit unrealistic to imagine the Boruto series giving him one final opportunity to fight again. However, neither of the aforementioned scenarios happened either, so it’s clear that Kishimoto doesn’t exactly plan on revisiting the character in any capacity. Instead, we can only hope to see him again in a few more nostalgia-driven cameos in the future.
Conclusion
To wrap things up, Might Guy is not dead in Boruto, but then again, he might have been better off dying a hero’s death at Madara’s hands. That way, his character could have at least met a fitting end in battle, instead of being disrespected and wasted in Boruto. In the end, we can at least find solace in the fact that he’s still alive — and sometimes, that’s all we anime fans need.
