Alongside remake culture, remasters have also become more prominent within the gaming industry. Developers are quick to port their games to the next generation of consoles, with a few adjustments here and there. However, some developers make fantastic remasters that are absolutely worth the price by adding various new features.
In this list, we will be mentioning 5 of the best game remasters that focus solely on quality.
1. Crisis Core Reunion: Final Fantasy VII
Crisis Core Reunion ports the original Crisis Core for the PSP to modern-generation consoles. While Square Enix could’ve just bumped up the resolution and ported it as it is, they went the extra mile. Not only did they make new character models and textures for the characters, but they also revamped the combat system and improved it. Additionally, they added new gameplay mechanics, such as the Buster Sword proficiency, to further enhance the experience.
While they also added new English voice-overs, they left fans split as the old ones were deemed too iconic to replace.
2. ICO & Shadow of the Colossus Collection
Bluepoint Games originally remastered both of Team ICO’s cult classic hits for the PlayStation 3. They added refined textures to these games and gave them a much-needed locked 30 fps experience. Additionally, they also added various other features to enhance the gameplay, such as adding a slow-mo when Wander lands the final blow on a Colossus.
After this remaster, Bluepoint decided to remake Shadow of the Colossus from the ground up for the PlayStation 4.
3. Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin
FromSoftware released their first-ever remaster by porting Dark Souls 2 to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Safe to say, they enhanced the game in every way possible with this remaster. They completely revamped the enemy placements, providing a fresh gameplay experience to veterans of the series. Additionally, graphics, framerate, and the lighting were enhanced as befits the next generation of gaming.
The revamped enemy placements also extend to the DLC areas of Dark Souls 2. In addition, FromSoftware also added a completely new NPC and ending to the mix, making this one of the best remasters out there.
4. Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
Insomniac’s Spider-Man is arguably the best Spider-Man game of all time. The remaster of this game does everything in its power to make it even better, and it works. From ray tracing to enhanced visuals and a completely revamped character model for Peter Parker, the remaster of this game provides a lot of value. Additionally, this also counts as a complete edition of the game, so it includes all the DLC that was released as well.
5. The Witcher 3 Complete Edition
While CD Projekt Red didn’t explicitly call this game a remaster, it certainly is one. They enhanced The Witcher 3 in almost every way possible. From enhanced graphics, ray tracing support, better loading times, and a revamped combat system, the game has it all. Additionally, they also added a new side quest based on the Netflix Witcher series, which can easily take over an hour to complete.
The best thing about this remaster is the added support for mods by the developers, giving fans free rein to do anything they want with this game. Many fans have made their own quests and areas using this, further extending the game’s lifespan.
