5 Best Silent Hill 2 Remake Endings

The Silent Hill 2 Remake has numerous endings. Fans continuously debate on what ending is the best and canon. Here are our picks.

Silent Hill 2 Remake is a stunning re-imagination of the already perfect original. It improves upon almost every aspect and provides an even better survival–horror experience. However, the endings in both games remain almost the same, with the remake getting two additional endings over the original.

Fans are divided over which ending is canon, and here are my top 5 endings in Silent Hill 2 Remake.

5) UFO Ending

This is pretty much a joke ending and something not to be taken seriously. It has also been changed when compared to the original game, and for the better. Basically, the James from the remake gets abducted by the James from the original game.

It is not only funny but also a great reference to the old Silent Hill 2. There is no real explanation as to how this ending makes sense. It is just meant to be taken as a gag and nothing more than that. A joke can be a great ending, too, if executed properly, and that is exactly what the UFO ending has managed to do.

4) Rebirth Ending

Another great ending in Silent Hill 2 which shows players that James is just unable to live without Mary. Knowing that he killed her, James still tries to resurrect Mary by communicating with the Old Gods of Silent Hill. Some might think that at the end of Rebirth, James might have become unstable.

Or maybe Silent Hill does possess the power to reawaken dead people. That is left to speculation, and you are free to choose whichever explanation you like. But the fact remains that the Rebirth ending is one weird finale to the game, which leaves everyone puzzled.

3) Maria Ending

Maria Ending

Maria’s ending is obtained mostly by interacting with Maria during your playthrough. It requires completing a few more little things, but it is mostly dependent on your interactions. In this ending, James moves on from Mary and chooses to live his life with Maria. The weird part about the ending is how Maria is implied to get the same sickness as Mary.

And James tells her to do something about the cough at the end. This means that James is stuck in a loop—a loop of killing the one he decides to spend his life with. It gets even weirder when you remember the fact that Maria was never real. She was just a figment of James’ imagination. Taking that point into consideration, the Maria ending stops making any sense but turns out to be the most eerie ending.

2) In Water Ending

This ending is widely accepted among the Silent Hill 2 community as the canon ending to the game. It involves James taking his own life as he cannot live with the guilt of killing Mary anymore. It is not just the guilt either—he cannot continue his life without Mary. And so, the game ends with James driving into Toluca Lake with Mary’s dead body inside the car.

Why is this ending accepted as canon for the game? Well, most players believe that James deserved this because he killed his own wife. Well, it is true to some extent, but in my opinion, taking your own life is never the answer.

1) Leave Ending

This is undoubtedly the best ending in Silent Hill 2 Remake. James not only accepts his guilt of killing Mary, but he also moves on in his life and adopts Laura. Going through the horrors of Silent Hill was enough torture for him, and raising Laura will give him some form of redemption.

Even if it isn’t redemption that he seeks, taking Laura into his care allows him to start a new chapter in his life. It makes moving on from Mary much easier for him. Additionally, Mary wanted to adopt Laura, too, which makes this ending somewhat of a happy ending when compared to others.
