Everything you need to know about Elden Ring Nightreign’s multiplayer features, and whether the game has crossplay or not.

Elden Ring Nightreign is arguably one of the most intriguing new releases from FromSoftware, simply from the game’s gameplay and progression perspective. Instead of being a regular souls-like RPG akin to the studio’s past releases, Nightreign is a strictly multiplayer game. Nightreign is essentially a trimmed-down version of Elden Ring, with the co-op elements at the forefront.
The game takes place on the map of Limveld, a smaller-scale version of the Lands Between, complete with optional dungeons, mini-bosses, and more. However, instead of featuring a linear progression akin to the base game of Elden Ring, Nightreign’s progression is tied to the game’s co-op elements.
With co-op being front and center, players might expect Nightreign to ship with support for crossplay. Unfortunately, Nightreign doesn’t have crossplay. Here’s everything you need to know about Elden Ring Nightreign’s multiplayer and its limitations.
Why Elden Ring Nightreign Doesn’t Have Crossplay Support?

Nightreign, despite being a completely different project compared to FromSoftware’s past endeavors, still uses the same proprietary engine. FromSoftware has been using the same engine for all of their major releases, from Bloodborne to Armored Core 6. While the studio did introduce significant changes to the engine’s capabilities for Elden Ring and Armored Core 6, it still uses the same base that the studio has been relying on since the start of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One generation.
While the engine serves its purpose for the kind of games FromSoftware makes, it lacks in other key departments. The engine struggles, especially in multiplayer.
In fact, multiplayer is one of the weakest aspects of any FromSoftware game to date, barring Armored Core. Among the many limitations of FromSoftware’s proprietary engine is its lack of crossplay support. And while the lack of crossplay didn’t hamper the studio’s past games, it can be devastating for a game like Nightreign, which relies on multiplayer interaction as its primary gameplay system.
Can You Play Elden Ring Nightreign in Single-Player?
Yes, Elden Ring Nightreign does have a single-player mode. It works essentially the same way as the solo mode in games like Remnant 2. However, there’s a catch. Since Nightreign is designed around co-op, playing through the game solo can be a significantly more challenging experience. Boss encounters, as well as loot in Nightreign, are balanced for both solo and co-op modes.
However, at the same time, some bosses like the Tricephalos or the Centipede Demon are designed to be tackled by multiple players.
