GTA 6 Release Date is finally out, and it has been delayed to next year. Explore when it is releasing and why Rockstar Games delayed it.
GTA 6 release date is set for May 26, 2026. The news was revealed on May 2, 2025, by Rockstar Games, marking a delay from their initial promise of releasing the game in 2025. While a delay was being rumored in the community, now we finally have a concrete date in hand.

Accompanying the announcement of the game’s release date, Rockstar Games also explained why they were choosing to delay GTA 6 from its original release year of 2025. The post reads:
“We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game. With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”
While this is usually the boilerplate response from game developers when they decide to delay a launch, it is good that Rockstar Games is taking the time to polish their offerings and present a product that hopefully will be better than expected. Is it a tall ask? Likely so. Only time will tell how it all will fare.
