Exit Fort Grief in Oblivion Remastered by defeating Kurdan gro-Dragol and unlocking the gate in Hunter’s Run.

Fort Grief is a ruined bastion that stands atop a desolate island in Oblivion Remastered. It becomes accessible as part of the ‘Caught in the Hunt’ quest, which is initiated by speaking with Ursanne Loche. She reveals that her husband, Aleron Loche, has gone missing and that he owed a debt to the infamous loan shark, Kurdan gro-Dragol. When you speak with Kurdan, he promises to provide information on Aleron if you head to Fort Grief and retrieve an heirloom axe for him.
To escape Fort Grief, you will have to defeat Kurdan gro-Dragol to obtain the real key to the fort. The key opens a door inside Hunter’s Run, which leads to a handle that you can turn to open the main fort’s gate. This guide details how to reach and escape Fort Grief in Oblivion Remastered.
Fort Grief Location in Oblivion Remastered

Located on an island northeast of Bravil, Fort Grief is the site for Kurdan gro-Dragol’s sick bloodsport in the quest, ‘Caught in the Hunt.’ To reach the fort, use the boat outside Kurdan’s house, and you will fast-travel to the island. Once at the fort’s front gate, turn the handle in front of it by the rubble on the right. However, once you enter the fort, the main gate is locked, and you must descend into its lower levels and kill the hunters.
How To Escape Fort Grief in Oblivion Remastered

Although Aleron Loche says that one of the hunters will have the key to the gate, in reality, it is Kurdan gro-Dragol who holds the real key. Therefore, in order to escape, you will have to descend into the fort, defeat all the hunters, and then confront Kurdan gro-Dragol. If you are having trouble navigating out of the fort’s dungeon — Hunter’s Run — use the Clairvoyance spell to guide you.
When you return to the surface, Kurdan gro-Dragol kills Aleron Loche. He reveals that the key found on the hunter is a fake, and he never intended to let his victims escape. After defeating Kurdan gro-Dragol, search his body to find the Fort Grief Real Key.
With the real key in hand, you can unlock the gate room inside Hunter’s Run to escape. Head into Hunter’s Run through the “Old Wooden Door to Hunter’s Run” on the eastern side of the fort. Once inside, unlock the first gate on your left using Fort Grief Real Key. Turn the handle there to open the main gate to the fort. Head back outside and exit Fort Grief through the open main gate on your left. Use the boat docked by the pier to return to the mainland, speak with Ursanne Loche, and complete the quest.
