Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon’s Black Tar Prophecies quest makes you pick a side between Drest and Iona.

Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon has a ton of quests that expand upon its morbid world, introducing you to new characters and monstrosities at every step. Owing to the gray nature of the world, the game also forces you to make difficult choices, as is evident by the Black Tar Prophecies quest in the game.

The Black Tar Prophecies quest is an Alchemy Guild quest in Tainted Grail The Fall of Avalon. This quest sends you forth to perform a druidic ritual. As you proceed with Jann’s task, you have to interact with Drest. He agrees to help you with the ritual and cleanse Cromlech. 

As the ritual is underway, Iona stops the Ritual, threatening Drest. The two go back and forth, escalating the conversation, before Iona drops a truth bomb, revealing that she is Drest’s daughter. Drest had ruined her life, leaving her all alone to fend for herself. Iona warns you to be wary of Drest, informing you that the ritual could be completed through a human sacrifice. 

Iona wants blood, and it will be either you or Drest. You’re then given the choice to side with Iona and sacrifice Drest for the ritual, or defend Drest and stop Iona’s quest for revenge. The choice is a tough one, and we recommend siding with Drest.

Full disclaimer that we do not condone Drest’s actions. He ruined Iona’s life, turning her into a monstrosity, and broke apart an entire family. He deserves punishment to the fullest, and siding with Iona concludes the family saga, giving her the good ending she deserves. 

With that said, siding with Iona and killing Drest locks you out of future quests with Drest. Drest has a few quests later on in the game that you will miss out on if you choose to kill him. These quests are well worth experiencing, and if you don’t wish to miss out on them, siding with Drest is a no-brainer. Defend Drest and kill Iona, and then return to Jann to progress with the Alchemist Guild questline.
